Prologue 1

The winter day grew dark extra early with the sun setting outside, casting a golden orange tint across the window pane. If not for a single dim candle flame flickering in the air, the room would have almost no light.

The person in the satin bedding moved a bit, grunted a grunt, and woke up. She squinted and glanced over to the window.

"Ah, it's dark, time to get up." She sat up with a yawn. After combing her hair in front of the mirror, she looked at the window where the light was receding. Her eyebrows twitched slightly as her pale fingers reached out and pushed open the window with a creak. Her body stood behind the wall while her outstretched hand touched the remaining sunlight.

At that moment, her already thin hand became stripped of flesh and blood, revealing a terrifying sight of the bones underneath. And the body that did not touch the sunlight remained intact as usual.

Ji Yunhe turned her hand, looked at her withered bones exposed under the sun, and clenched it into a fist. "So scary," she said in a monotone. And just as the words fell, she saw the maid downstairs in the courtyard approaching slowly with a food basket. Ji Yunhe withdrew her hand, but did not close the window.

Today was sunny but still cold and windy. A breeze blew in, but she did not feel the chill. She remained standing behind the wall looking at the distant mountains over the lake, and puffed out a mouthful of white air.

"Looks like snow tonight, time to warm a pot of wine to drink." Pop! The door was roughly pushed open. The sun outside disappeared completely into the horizon at the same time. The room darkened. The new maid, Jiang Weiyan, came in with a food basket.

"Still want to drink? With such a weak and sickly body, are you not afraid of drinking to death?" Jiang Weiyan raised her eyebrows and looked condescending and rude.

"The window should be closed tightly. It's fine to die, but if you get sick, I will have to be the one to take care of you," she said while placing the dishes from the basket onto the table, her voice deep and solemn.

Such a cold, snowy day. Others all get to rest inside, but I still have to come and bring you food." Jiang Weiyan complained as she was setting up the rice. When she turned her head, she saw Ji Yunhe still had the window wide open.

She raised her eyebrows and her voice, "Can't you hear what I'm saying?"

"I hear you." Ji Yunhe looked at her with a smile, as if she were not facing a grumpy, rambling girl.

"Please continue."Jiang Weiyan lost her temper. She put down the bowl, took two big steps to the window and reached out to close it. But a hand came through under her arm and held the window up, keeping her from pulling it shut. It was the sickly Ji Yunhe.

Jiang Weiyan turned her head and stared furiously at Ji Yunhe, who said with half a smile, "I just want to feel the breeze and get some air. Been locked up all day..."

Before she finished her sentence, Jiang Weiyan slapped her hand away. "Who cares?!" Ji Yunhe looked at the back of her hand turning red from the slap, and her eyes narrowed slightly.

Jiang Weiyan slammed the window shut and turned around. "Feed yourself, and when you're done..."

Her sentence was cut short as Ji Yunhe grabbed her by the wrist. Jiang Weiyan was stunned, but before she could say anything, she felt her body suddenly grow light and turned around. Her head smashed into the window that had just been shut, reopening it.

The cold wind from outside immediately poured onto her face. Half of her body was now hanging out the window with Ji Yunhe's hand holding on to her collar, keeping her from falling down three floors.

Jiang Weiyan's face turned blue and her voice trembled, "What, what do you want? Let go… No! Don't let go..."Ji Yunhe wiped her own forehead with the spare hand, coughed a bit then sighed, "Not at all like before. Just this little bit of movement already makes me tired and my hands shake."

Jiang Weiyan immediately grabbed Ji Yunhe's wrist. "Don't, don't, don't shake." Ji Yunhe laughed and said, "Who cares?!" She made a gesture to let go. Jiang Weiyan screamed, but then she felt a force pulling her up. Her tightly closed eyes opened and she saw that it was Ji Yunhe who had saved her. Jiang Weiyan stood steadily inside the room and looked back through the window.

The wind was strong, the sun was gone, and there was not a bit of warmth in the air. She had almost fallen from this floor... Jiang Weiyan turned back and took another look at Ji Yunhe who was still smiling in front of her in an intrusive manner.

"How does it feel to be bullied?" Ji Yunhe asked.
