Ibby

Ibby knew something wasn't right with her family. Her brother gave her disgusted looks. Her mother didn't want anything to do with her unless necessary, and her father completely ignored her.

She didn't know why. She was top of her class and the model student every teacher adored. And the perfect daughter every parent would want. Except hers for some reason.

Although her father has never willingly said anything to her, ever, her mother would remind her of the rules she was always told never to break. The rules were quite strange to the 17-year-old.

Rule#1: Never destroy someone else's property.

Rule#2: Never be the cause of conflict.

Rule#3: Never inflict or let anyone inflict a wound on your body.

Rule#4: Never wish death upon anyone.

Rule#5: Never prank.

She never understood these rules, yet she followed them compliantly because they seemed important to her mother.

She walked along the hallway of the school she had been attending for the past three years. Her family moved a lot because of her father's job. She had transferred to the school three years ago, which was the longest she had ever stuck to one school.

"Heya cupcake." A girl ran up to her from behind and slung her hand over Ibby's shoulder. Though Ibby jumped a bit from the sudden physical contact, she never turned to see who had approached her because only one person called her cupcake.

Christine moved from behind and walked directly to Ibby's right, leaving her hand over her left shoulder. "Hey," Ibby replied in a neutral tone.

"hmph," Christine removed her hand from the girl's shoulder and crossed it over her chest. "Be happier to see me, will ya," she said with pouty lips.

"Sure, I'll try the next time I see ya," Ibby said, with a blank expression. Christine shook her head and checked her wristwatch. Her mouth widened in horror. "Crap, I gotta run. I have Mr. Whittenberg right now."

Christine gave a wave and ran off in the direction of chemistry class. "Bye," Ibby mumbled. "I'm imagining things," she whispered to herself before heading off to math class.

She pushed the door open and walked into the classroom. The front seat at the far corner was empty as always. Ibby walked over to it, sat down, and took out her books ignoring the weird stares she got from people who had actually taken notice of her.

Ms. White, the Math teacher turned around jumping and throwing the marker she had in the air. A look of shock on her etched on her face.

"Um.... When did you get here, Miss Rose?" She asked, regaining her composure. She released a cough in an attempt to cover her embarrassment, glancing at the other students.

"I've been told many times that I have no presence."

The teacher nodded, "at least you didn't interrupt my class." Ibby took out her pen and began taking notes as the teacher went back to her lesson.

The class went by without anything worth mentioning happened. Ibby got up and stuffed her books into her bag. She slung it over her shoulder and left the class without a word.

The hallway was bustling with students as usual, yet Christine managed to pick out the blonde within the crowd. "Cupcake!" Christine yelled, waving her hands frantically. "Let's go secure a spot before the chicken runs out!"

Ibby didn't change her pace though, 'if chicken runs out, I can just have something else,' she thought. The look of impatience on Christine's told she wasn't satisfied with her pace. But to Ibby, it was a waste of energy to rush to get something as temporary as chicken.

"I'll save you a spot!" Christine yelled, taking off with a grin on her face, and her eyes sparkling with joy.

"In the end, the chicken ran out before I got here," Christine said, dropping her body on the table after releasing a sigh of defeat.

"We still have fish."

Christine glared at Ibby before poking the fish with her fork, a look of disgust on her face. " I want chicken." Christine groaned and dropped the lunch fork on the table.

The bell rang making Christine jump and look in the direction the sound was coming from. After looking at Ibby, she checked her wristwatch. Her stomach released a rumbling sound, and she looked down at it. She pouted her lips and let out a crying noise, "I'm starving! I'm so hungry!"

"Shoulda ate the fish," Ibby said while looking into the lunch bag she brought with her incase she got hungry. She threw an apple at Christine. A smile graced Christine's face as she caught the apple. She had a look of satisfaction after taking a bite.

"Thanks, cupcake, you're the best."

Ibby nodded and got up, she followed Christine out of the cafeteria and off to their next class. They were almost at their destination when Christine stopped.

"I need to pick up something at the mall tomorrow. Come with me?"

Ibby nodded, but she couldn't shake the feeling that something will change tomorrow.
