Wren arrives in viewing distance of home and a wave of nostalgia hits him and he slows his pace. The house is a big traditional Japanese house with high-quality white paper windows that look like they were not made from trees but generally more sturdy material.

"Did she have to wipe that species of foxes to extinction and use their skin as paper windows and doors after what a few of their kind did to me?"

Wren thinks of the situation with a lingering attachment to the victims and aggressors.

He reaches the door and opens it expecting his master to be home but the sight that greets him is a silver coffin in the living room. It is huge, hijacking half the space of the entire room. There are slots scattered across it and tanks hanging from the sides filled with water and food pastes.

"What the fuck is this, where's Master?"

Suddenly Wren's phone starts ringing and he accepts the call.

"Call me Mother Little Snowbird!" the voice of a 30-year-old Japanese woman yells through the phone.

Wren is at first elated to hear this voice but then anger overwhelms him.

"HAH, MAS-TER!? Why should I do that for a woman who abandoned me alone for a year after saying they would be a month?"

"You don't have to call me Mother, as long as you follow my instructions".

Wren tenses up as he knows how much a sacrifice it is for her with terms of address.

Taking Wren's silence as affirmation she continues "get into the silver coffin and stay in there for at least a week up to a month"

"Uh, ma, master won't it be hot in there?" Wren hesitates and stammers from confusion.

"I covered all the bases you can think of just get in there"

"What will getting in there do for me?" Wren sees excuses won't work so tries pragmatism.

"You'll live in a digital battlefield that will change your fate as well the fate of the other outliers"

"Huh?" Wren is surprised one minute they were talking about the silver coffin the next his Master is talking about fate and the word outlier pops up.

"Goodbye Little Snowbird if you wish to see me again be sure to achieve big things in New World Battlefield"

"Wait! Where do I find you and what does this have to do with my fate?" Wren asks confused out of his mind with the series of events.

*Beep* "Called ended"

Too bad for Wren his Master hangs up before he can receive answers.

Staring at his phone Wren starts muttering "Fate...Is she referring to my heavy dependence on cold and my adverse reaction to heat? The extreme cold feels more addictive to me than any drug ever could be. She alluded to the fact there are more people like me... I guess I would want to meet them but we might not mix well…like fire and water"

"Well... this is my first contact with my Master so I'll try it out, I am glad that she is okay"

"Puh, ptt, tuh" Wren spits and chokes at the shockingly high number.

"I knew Master was rich but seriously she's this rich?"

A menu pops up in-front of Wren in a classic game registration with the clauses already filled in.

[User doesn't have the privileges to change anything]

"Fine..." Wren is ticked off by this but it's something Master would do.

Wren's anger is interrupted by a pure white blinding light.

[Welcome to New World Battlefield we at Demon King studios wish you an "eventful" time :)]

The blinding light is replaced with a more blinding and colourful light.

Wren notices ground below his feet and thus turns his body away from the light.

He is about to try to get his bearings but is bombarded with messages in his face.

Wren looks at the items and the quest he received, one cynical thought emerges dominant over all others.

"Was this the result of money too? Master is going all-in but for what".

Wren notices he is in a big indoor temple with tempered, colourful frost-covered glass shining colourful high beams on where he appeared but normal everywhere else.

"What troubles you, child?" A soft voice sounds from behind Wren.

Wren turns around to see a thin, olive skin, a middle-aged female priest holding an open book in one hand like a scholar.

"Ugh, being blinded as soon as I arrived here" Wren adopts a snarky tone taking out his previous anger on the female priest.

The female priest smiles "the light of the first morn heralds your arrival as an otherworldly hero who will be our greatest ally in the upcoming war that will..."

"Ok I get it I won't bring it up, take me to your changing room and... please tell me what you can about the Cold Wall of Baptism?"

The female priest smiles and nods, motioning Wren forwards.

"The Cold Wall of Baptism is a cold and harsh place where anyone who is 18 years old has to fight face to face against beasts and the intelligent inhabitants of the frozen wasteland".

Wren is curious as to the carrot that makes people endure such a violent stick.

Reading Wren's expression of curiosity she continues "it is an opportunity to receive education from the high-level instructors who teach a variety of practical skills for warfare; fighting, medicine, forging, magic..."

"It is custom that I test your aptitude for magic before you leave the building, oh we are here" she notions him towards the room.

Wren nods in token agreement as he enters the changing room, Wren notices a few priest and nun uniforms in female fits on the racks as he walks in.

"This is a female changing room...oh well at least it's private"

Wren opens the loot box and starts by holding the robe up and sword up inspecting them "Looks and feels the same".

He loads up the needles in a pocket near his wrist and the bag of antifreeze near his elbow joint so he can crush it at any time.

He then examines the sword nodding in a cursory manner equipping it and a stats page pops up in front of Wren.

Remark: A good match in battle for a level 3 KI or PSY with hugely advantageous bonuses in cold environments.

"It feels weird how my body and mind are translated into stats and that my attunement to cold doesn't show the downsides" he checks his cuffs and hair again leaving the room.

"You look even more beautiful in that battle robe but won't you be cold?" The female priest comments as she notices the workmanship of the white robes and it's patterns of snowflakes dotted around it.

"It's still not cold enough, it's only half as cold as my home," Wren says offhandedly.

"You like the cold? You must have a natural affinity for cold magic. Let's test that," she reaches for Wren's hand in excitement, an arcane light flashes.

I found it an entertaining enough read personally hope you like it aswell. I changed my stat system after playing a game with one that makes more sense.
