Time Leap (Part-3)

After accepting the mission, my unit and I went to the Middle East.

We stayed in the Middle East for 4 months, until we got news from the spy that Al-Qaeda leaders were going to attack the Americans in Tanzania, then we went to East Africa.

We stayed in Tanzania for a month, the source said that al-Qaida cell leaders are meeting to plan or discuss the final details of a possible attack on US soil.

My unit is in a hotel opposite the terrorists' meeting point, we have agents undercover on-site, awaiting orders.

We waited at the indicated location until the targets appeared, the days turned into weeks and the weeks into months, until in December 1999 the location was undergoing possibly hostile movement.

We acted as planned, called in reinforcements, surrounded the place and when we were ready to go in, the whole place exploded.

Bang...

Bang...

Bang.

Three explosions sounded in a matter of seconds, all soldiers near the explosion site died or the status is unknown, my unit was a little late so we didn't take much damage, but this operation was a failure.

Just when I thought it couldn't get any worse, I got a call on the radio that surprised me, it looks like Al Qaeda wasn't planning an attack, they were carrying out an attack.

We were ambushed, terrorists attacked two American embassies, one here in Tanzania and the other in Kenya, many American civilians were killed along with the employees, it is not yet known if there will be more attacks.

Four months have passed since the attack on the US embassies, the person responsible has been identified as the terrorist group Al-Qaeda, the superiors have not said anything, the mission is still the same, only much more difficult because the spy has not given any news since.

We are stationed in the Middle East again, more precisely in Turkey, my unit along with the intelligence services are investigating how and why this attack took place, our intelligence has not been able to intercept anything about these attacks.

I have a bad feeling something is going to happen, it's almost time for the attack on the twin towers, I have to find one of the high-ranking members of al-Qaeda so that I can pass this information on to my superiors, if I show up out of the blue saying that the twin towers, the pentagon and many structures in the country will be attacked by commercial planes, I will be called crazy, and after the attack, I will be an accomplice.

"Alex, why do you have that funeral face?" asks Frankie.

"I don't know Frankie, I have a bad feeling, it looks like something bad is about to happen," I tell the truth.

Frankie comes up to me hugs me from behind and says "Relax, we've been on alert for several months and it's not good, you need to stay calm, everything will be fine!"

I look at Frankie with a smile and say. "You're right, tell Nez I'm going to sleep, she has to come to get my shift!"

As soon as I finished saying those words, Isaac came to me in a hurry and said. "We have located one of the leaders of Al Qaeda! His name is Abdullah Azzam, one of the founders of the terrorist group!"

"Where is he, are the superiors already aware?" I ask.

"Yes sir, the information came from HQ, according to them Abdullah Azzam is in Afghanistan in the city where he was born!" Isaac Johnson responded respectfully.

"Alright, let's go to Afghanistan immediately, get everything ready!" I get up and go to my room to get dressed.

" All right!" says Frankie.

"Yes, captain!" Answer Isaac.

And so we left for Afghanistan, I just hope to locate this terrorist and finally tell everything I know about the bombing of the HQ and be able to save as many lives as I can, if possible completely prevent this attack.
