Her Saviour

She couldn't take it anymore, she was on the verge of giving up when a car almost rammed into her.

Ariana had not noticed the speeding car coming in her direction. Before she realized it, it was already too late to run back. She stared at the bright lights in front of her, unable to move. She closed her eyes awaiting it. Silence.

The noise around her stopped and the only thing she could hear was her thoughts.

Then everything started to come back to normal, the sounds were back, the piercing headache and the pain in her shoulders. She felt dizzy.

In a moment, Arianna fainted.

Alistair had just finished work. He was so tired. Having attended boring business meetings and overseeing an ongoing project, he was stressed out.

He drove fast. He wanted to get home on time so he could rest well for the next day. He had been distracted by a phone call when he almost rammed into her.

"Shit! What have you done Alistair?" He threw his phone down on the car seat and alighted just in time to catch her in his arms.

"Hey, hey. Wake up! Wake up!" He shook her. Arianna didn't move. "I have to take her to the hospital before things get out of hand" he moved to carry her when she stirred in his hands.

"Thank goodness! You're awake already. I was contemplating on taking you to the hospital" he heaved a long sigh of relief.

She woke up to a pair of Nile green eyes staring back at her. She couldn't make out what he was saying but she felt his huge arms pull her up. Her first instinct was to check her body.

Then she looked behind him to see if there was anyone there. No one was there. It was as if he had vanished into thin air. She heaved a sigh of relief as she held her head. It pounded hard. All she needed right now was her bed.

"Are you okay? Ma'am? Is everything alright?" The man before her asked. Alistair turned back. He was wondering what made her look behind him like that. Was that a trace of fear he could see? Why did she look so disheveled?

"Is anything the matter? You look pale. Are you alright?" He asked innocently.

Slowly her facial expression changed from blank to a frown, she processed everything that had just occurred. If this man before her had driven well, she wouldn't have fainted.

"Am I ok?" Ariana rephrased the question.

" Are you really asking me if I am alright?" She asked again before she laughed.

"Yes, you were on the floor for more than two minutes. I should ask if you are fine of course. Since you can speak now, I guess you're good. Goodnight " He turned to leave.

Alistair was irked by her temperance. How dare she speak to me in that manner? He had almost rammed into her but she had her faults too. She wasn't focused on where she was headed. That made them equal.

However, he wasn't ready to trade words with her since he was so stressed. All he needed was his dinner, a warm bath, and his plush bed. Not another whiny female!

"Goodnight? Is that all you can say? Of course, I am not fine, you almost hit me! You tried to run your expensive car over me! How dare you ask if I am fine?!" She yelled.

Alistair assessed her with a quizzical look. What sort of human was this!? "If I tried to kill you, then why am I still here? Why didn't I run over you when you fainted?" He replied her.

She had pushed him to start talking and he would. It was then that he saw the cuts on her body. He took a clear look at her . She had blood on her body and there were bruises on her body.

Was she trying to escape from someone? Was that the reason she couldn't focus on the road? He turned to check. No one was there.

"Ma'am, are you okay?" He asked again. Maybe she would be calm and explain things to him. However, Arianna continued ranting.

"How on earth would I be okay when I almost died?" She glared at him

"I didn't hit you and if your memory serves you right, we both are at fault here. Don't play the victim card with me. I've had enough of it in a lifetime!" He said firmly.

"What!? How was I at fault here? You clearly have no manners, Mr. Man. Get lost!" Ariana said before she walked towards the tunnels.

Alistair wondered why she was being so touchy but he couldn't leave her to go home that way. She looked so stressed. It looked like she might faint again.

"I could give you a ride," He said as he called as he watched her limp away.

"I don't want it!" She continued walking. All her senses screamed at her to stop and obey him immediately this time around. However, her pride wouldn't let her say yes.

It was better if she took the main road, the shortcut caused her trouble. Next time, she would stick to the main road no matter what happened.

Arianna turned and veered on the path that led to the main road, it would take longer but it was better if she was safe. She couldn't risk another encounter.

Alistair honked at her severally but she chose to act deaf. "He can take his car to hell for all I care," she thought. She had never liked men who couldn't apologize. He behaved spoiled.

"Let me give you a ride. It's almost 9:30 pm and with your speed, you might spend another hour before getting home. It's too dark here. " He continued following her slowly in his car.

"Fuck off!" She stuck out her tongue at him. Alistair got pissed and drove off. "Jerk!" She cursed and stamped her feet on the ground. "Ouch" she gasped in pain.

Tears gathered in Arianna's eyes. If only her parents didn't die, she wouldn't be in situations like these.

Her whole body was sore. She kept on moving at a slow pace when she saw a car coming in her direction. "Maybe I could beg for a ride," a part of her urged her. "What if it's another psychopath who would harm you?"

She was torn between the choices but she had to take one. One that would land her on her doorstep or close to her house at least. With her speed, she would spend the night on the road.

"Please help" she raised her hands to flag down the car which stopped immediately to her surprise. She had thought that she would be ignored. With the increase in crime rate in the country, people didn't pick up strangers anyhow.

However, a familiar head popped out of the car. She was shocked. "You!?"
