Chapter 44: Helina Returns to Her Pack

“I could go with you,” Chase said as Helina shoved some clothing into a bag.

“I need to do this alone.”

They’d talked about many things in the last two days, but until she was sure she could stay in the human world, she couldn’t make any commitments to Chase. He leaned on the doorjamb of her bedroom, looking around at it. She hadn’t added many touches, but she assumed he didn’t enter this apartment when it was empty. He was probably seeing it for the first time in a while.

He frowned. “At least let me escort you to the woods.”

She thought about Kurt. She hadn’t seen or heard from him, but she was also out of touch with her pack.

“I’ll miss you,” Chase said.

That made her pause. She would miss him also. The question was how much, and would it be more than she missed her pack? Her wolf knew that she should be with her mate. Her human side knew it wasn’t that simple. “I’ll miss you, too Chase. I won’t be gone long. A day or so. I need to check on Harlan.”
