Chapter 37: The Morning After

Helina woke up and knew something was different. The light coming in the window came from the wrong direction. She had a sense of peace and satisfaction. Warmth, too. Someone had draped their arm over her hip. It was possessive without being overbearing.

Chase.

Her mind replayed the last night. They hadn’t gotten much sleep by the time the alarm went off, so Chase had turned it off and they made love again before sleeping. She turned her head to look at his clock. It was almost noon.

“Hey,” Chase said, his breath wafting across her ear.

“Hey,” she said.

What was she supposed to say? He hadn’t kicked her out to go sleep in her own apartment. Had that been an oversight and were things going to be awkward between them? She shifted to look at him. His smile spoke volumes and he had a light in his eyes that she hadn’t seen before. It most likely reflected one in hers.

Chase was a patient lover, making sure she’d been satisfied before taking his own satisfaction.
