Chapter 31: The Police Arrive

Chase glanced at Helina. “Why didn’t the doorman let me know someone was coming up?”

“I don’t know.”

It did seem like a lapse in security for the man who owned the building. Chase looked down at himself then shrugged. “They will have to live with how they found me. Can you grab a band-aid? I need one for my finger.”

She dug into the kitchen drawer and found one than met him at the front door with it. He looked at her concerned. “It’s the police.”

She couldn’t imagine why there were on Chase’s doorstep. “You have to open the door.”

He cracked his neck then swung the door open. A man in a plaid jacket held up a badge and identification. “I’m Detective Gromit. This is Detective Wallace.”

“Good morning, gentlemen. What can I help you with?”

They flicked their gaze at Chase than to Helina. “We’re looking for Helina Welsh.”

“Well she lives next door, but what does this have to do with?” Chase asked.
