Chapter 22

It was the beginning of a new day with tons of work to do.

As Catherine sat on her rotatable chair with a pen in her hand staring at the bunch of files she was going to work on she kept wishing that everyday would be like other days when she had an appointment with a client because any day she had an appointment with a client the number of works she was going to do in the company was reduced.

After reminiscing on this thoughts she heaved a sigh and took the first file and started working on it because she knew the more she waited, the more time passed by and she only had that day and the following to finish with the documents unless she was going to have a serious problem with Daniel again and that was the last thing that she wanted.

As she was working on the files a notification popped into her phone that was beside her and immediately she did a double tap on the screen of her phone and it switched on.

When she checked the notification she realized that it was a message from Jerry and without hesitating she unlocked her phone and opened the message which was a video.

When she started playing the video she realized that it was footage of a security camera in which Jerry was sitting down in the hospital bed beside his unconscious father and when she looked at the date she saw that it was the same day that she caught Jerry kissing Lucy.

As she was watching the video she kept wondering why Jerry sent the footage to her.

Suddenly the video played to the part where Lucy entered the ward, even though there weren't any sounds in the video she could easily detect what was going on through their gestures. She just couldn't believe her eyes, just like a vision everything started becoming clearer and clearer to her as she kept on watching the video.

Once she finished watching the video it dawned on her that Jerry never kissed Lucy voluntarily instead it was Lucy that forced herself on Jerry and immediately all the hatred and anger she was feeling towards Jerry subsided and was replaced with the feeling of regret.

"No, no, no" Catherine muttered to herself while holding her head with her two hands.

"What have I done?, I should have listened to him when he was asking me to hear him out" Catherine muttered to herself while scratching her head.

What am I going to do now?" Catherine kept asking herself.

Without hesitating she stood up from the chair and started heading towards Jerry's office.

She knew she had messed up and Jerry might decide not to forgive her but she was going to face any consequences he was going to impose on her.

Once she reached in the front of Jerry's office she breathed in and out twice in order to calm her heart that was beating.

After hesitating for some minutes she placed a soft knock on Jerry's door and immediately Jerry ordered her to come in.

"Good morning sir" Catherine greeted Jerry with a shaky tone while avoiding his gaze.

"Good morning Catherine, how may I help you?" Jerry asked Catherine with his gaze still glued on the screen of the computer.

"I saw the video that you sent to me and I came to tell you that I'm sorry" Catherine said to Jerry while biting her lips and immediately Jerry raised his head and looked at her for a few seconds and returned his gaze towards the computer without replying to her.

"I know that I messed up, I should have listened to you, I shouldn't have drawn conclusions without listening to you. Please find it in your heart to forgive me" Catherine pleaded and immediately Jerry stopped tapping the keyboard and looked at her once again.

"Catherine, some weeks ago you told me that the only relationship that you wanted to exist between the both of us is that of a boss and employee right?" Jerry asked Catherine who kept silent while avoiding his gaze.

"That relationship is exactly what I need right now, as you can see I have many things to take care of and I don't have time for this now. Jerry informed Catherine calmly.

"And when will you be free so that we can talk about it?"Catherine asked while avoiding Jerry's gaze.

"I don't know, maybe today, next week, next month or next year. I don't just know Catherine. You should start going, I have many things to take care of." Jerry informed Catherine before returning his gaze to his computer.

Catherine stood there like an invisible being for some minutes before walking out of Jerry's office.

Once she went back to her office she sat down on her chair and leaned backward and allowed the tears of regret to stream down freely on her cheeks.

After some minutes she decided to walk outside of the company in order to get some fresh air, that will help her calm down she said within herself.

As she arrived at the reception area and was heading outside her name echoed from behind and immediately she turned back she saw that it was Jerry approaching her.

"Catherine I'm about to do something that I have never done before and that is mixing work with relationships." Jerry said to Catherine while approaching her.

"I understood clearly your reactions, I too would have done the same thing, maybe worse if I was in your shoes." Jerry said to Catherine who was still wondering why Jerry was telling her all that despite the presence of the other employees who weren't aware of their break up.

"But next time before jumping into conclusions always hear me out" Jerry said to Catherine who nodded in agreement while avoiding the stares of the other employees who still couldn't figure out what was going on.

Once Jerry approached her he looked at her for some seconds before kneeling down on one knee and bringing out a little box from the side pocket of his suit.

"Mrs Catherine Edmond, will you marry?" Jerry asked Catherine while looking up towards her and immediately the employees around including the secretary brought out her phone and started videoing the lovely scene.

"Catherine couldn't believe her eyes; it was just like a dream to her. As she was looking at Jerry who was kneeling before her tears of joy started streaming down her face.

Since she was taking time to respond her colleagues started shouting: "Say yes!say yes!" and immediately Catherine looked at Jerry who was kneeling before her and screamed:

"Yes! Yes! I will marry you Jerry Bernard and immediately Jerry pushed the diamond ring into her finger and immediately Catherine drew him up and hugged him passionately before placing a soft kiss on her lips.

Everyone kept on applauding for them except for Daniel who came down before the sound of the clapping.

He stared at them angrily for some minutes before returning to his office while fuming in anger.
