Awkward Moment

Finally, Scarlett could enter her room, finding solace after those awkward moments with Xander Riley.

She leaned against the door, trying to soothe her racing heart. It was hard to understand that she would now share the president's room with Xander Riley, just the two of them. Nervousness coursed through her, even though they wouldn't be sharing the same bedroom.

He would become her lawful husband tomorrow, and she couldn't help but worry that her heart might betray her by falling for him.

But at this moment, something troubled Scarlett's mind. When she saw Xander for the second time, he appeared different from their first encounter at the hospital. He exuded a sense of not friendly and coldness as if he wanted to keep his distance from her.

She tries to remind herself, "What did you expect, Scarlett? It's merely a contract marriage. Remember, there are no emotions involved here. You mean nothing to him. Stop hoping for more…"

Scarlett could only laugh bitterly, hearing her own words.

She even suspects that Xander might have a girlfriend.

"But why did he choose me for this marriage contract?"

This question had plagued her since last night. She longed to ask, but as she gazed at his stoic expression, her question remained unspoken.

...

Feeling slightly better, Scarlett decided to explore the bedroom.

The room appeared luxurious, featuring a massive bed adorned with white bedding in the center. In one corner, there was a two-seater sofa and a coffee table. Behind them lay a large glass wall, providing a captivating view of the white sandy beach.

The white sandy beach and the clear blue sky captured her attention. She stood near the glass wall, gazing outside.

Suddenly, an overwhelming desire to visit the beach and find solace overwhelmed her—a desire to escape from the recent turmoil that had befallen her family and begin a new life in the capital.

However, before going out, Scarlett realized she hadn't changed her clothes since the previous day. She wore her favorite outfit: a white shirt and ripped jeans.

Instantly, her face turned red, and she covered it with her hand, feeling embarrassed at the thought that Xander must have noticed she hadn't changed since yesterday.

"Gosh! No wonder Xander asked me to come into this room as soon as I arrived. He probably couldn't bear to see me in the same state as yesterday, right?" She could only chuckle as she made her way into the bathroom.

Scarlett was taken aback when she saw her reflection in the mirror. Her face appeared pallid, her lips colorless and dry, and her wig seemed damp. Simultaneously, her white shirt was wrinkled, making her look like a woman who hadn't washed in a week.

'Damn! This is so embarrassing.'

"Jeez, Scarlett... You are truly embarrassed. How can a man fall in love with you if you don't show off your beauty?" She smiled slightly while scolding herself. Slowly, she took off her wig.

She smiled at how her beautiful red wavy hair cascaded down her back. Her hair still felt silkily soft even after being tightly concealed under the wig for a few hours.

Scarlett recalled the first time she had worn a wig. She didn't want her true identity revealed, so she opted for a wig. The Pixie Gray hairstyle was her recent favorite.

For several months, she hadn't changed her style, and even people who knew her believed her pixie cut was her natural hair, although it wasn't. She would never cut her hair this short because she had promised her late mother never to do so. Her late mother had adored her long hair.

"Mom! Did I do a good job, or what!? My long red hair is still the same as the last time you saw it. Please appear in my dreams tonight, okay!?" She talked as she looked at herself in the mirror.

Scarlett felt so sad, she missed her mother very much. She didn't realize that tears were growing in her eyes.

Today, it felt too hard for Scarlett to go through, especially knowing that her father, whom she had always respected, wouldn't even consider believing what she said. He seemed utterly enchanted by that woman, Lauren.

She felt deeply disappointed in her father, but disappointment wouldn't help her. She knew she had to take action, which is why she decided to leave the house for a while.

After a few minutes of sobbing, remembering her late mother, she removed her contact lenses.

When she caught sight of her turquoise eyes, she couldn't help but smile. Her eye color was captivating.

She couldn't reveal her actual eye color to others because it attracted too much attention. Many men became curious about her after seeing her eyes, so she hid her natural eye color when she lived in the US.

This was also to help her disguise herself. She couldn't show her actual appearance for some reason.

...

Before long…

Scarlett felt refreshed after taking a shower with warm water. She wrapped her still-wet hair in a white towel and her body in a bathrobe.

Upon exiting the bathroom, she was startled to find Xander leaning against the door frame, his eyes fixed intently on her.

"Why... Why... are you here!?" She couldn't help but ask in a high tone, shocked to see him in her bedroom. "Don't you know how to knock on the door?"

She tightened her bathrobe, fearing it might slip open – she wasn't wearing anything underneath.

"Sir, Xander, please wait outside. I'll be out in a minute..." Scarlett avoided eye contact with him; she hadn't put her contact lenses on. And she was grateful that her hair was concealed under the towel. It would have been troublesome if this man had seen her actual appearance.

"Sorry, I didn't expect to see you like this. Well," he said and closed the door.

After Xander closed the door without saying anything, she felt relieved. She hurriedly walked to the door and locked it.
