Chapter 28: Stuck

Elise fought back the tears in her eyes as she remained locked away in Dmitri's suite just meters away from Mako's old one. She knew better than to try and outwit the guards her husband had placed in her room, but she longed to make an escape nonetheless.
She sat on her bed, sniffling and fiddling with her fingers. The chatter of her husband's goons sitting out in the dining room refilled her fright for them every few seconds. After refusing to wallow in pity any longer, Elise stood up and wandered toward the glass doors. Looking down at the VIP guests lounging at the private pool for the suites around her, she envied their freedom.
A deep sigh left her lips. She tugged on the blanket she wrapped around her shoulders. Her chilled skin annoyed her despite the warm climate and direct sunlight beaming into the bedroom.
'Please be safe,' she thought, keeping Mako in the center of her mind from the moment she left his bed.
