CHAPTER 17
Kendall valued peace and quiet. Anyone who knew her even a little bit understood that she had a strong aversion to being disturbed while sleeping, which was almost as significant as being betrayed by someone she trusted.
Even Damien, who had a close relationship with her, wouldn't dare to disturb her sleep. The consequences were simply too much for him to bear.
However, the person outside the door seemed oblivious to this, continuously knocking and calling out, "Kendall? Kendall? Are you in there?"
Kayla knocked on the door while straining to hear any movement inside.
After a long period of silence, she furrowed her brows. She knew that Kendall was awake. Was she intentionally ignoring her or occupied with something else inside? Kayla remembered Ethan mentioning that Kendall was skilled in coding and could make a lot of money from it. Although she didn't want to believe or admit it, she couldn't deny the possibility.
If it weren't for the new phone and computer, she wouldn't have been patient enough to keep knocking on the door.
After much internal struggle, Kayla finally swallowed her disgust and called out to the person inside, whom she had been calling a fatso for years, in a way she least wanted to, "Sis…?"
Before she could finish her sentence, the door suddenly swung open, and a hand swiftly grabbed her throat.
Kayla was startled by Kendall's icy gaze, but she couldn't scream because she was being strangled.
Kendall showed no mercy. Kayla's face quickly turned red, struggling to breathe. The breakfast she bought to please Kendall fell to the ground. She instinctively tried to pry Kendall's hand off and hit her shoulder, but her efforts were in vain.
"Sis." Ethan rushed out of his room and was shocked by the scene before him. He quickly tried to intervene and stop Kendall.
Suppressing her murderous intent, Kendall released her grip on Kayla, who was gasping for breath, and threw her onto the ground. She glanced at the breakfast scattered on the floor, easily guessing what Kayla had intended.
"If you don't want to die, stay away."
Kayla was completely stunned. She took deep breaths, tears streaming down her face from fear. After Kendall returned to her room, she couldn't help but cry out loud.
Facing death for the first time, Kayla was so terrified that her mind went blank and her body went limp. She sat on the ground, crying hysterically, completely disregarding her image.
While she sobbed uncontrollably, there was suddenly a loud crash. Someone inside threw a glass cup impatiently, shattering it against the door.
Kayla immediately fell silent and hurried back to her room.
Ethan fetched a broom and silently cleaned up the scattered breakfast in front of Kendall's door. Then he mopped the floor.
At that moment, the door opened.
Ethan looked up and saw Kendall standing in front of him.
A few minutes later, Ethan was sitting in front of Kendall's computer, watching the rapid flow of data on the screen.
He looked up at Kendall.
She said, "Didn't you want to learn hacking techniques? I'll teach you."
Ethan was taken aback, his eyes widening.
"You mean…?"
He couldn't believe that he was standing in front of a legendary hacker.
And this person was his sister!
Ethan had fair skin, handsome features, and bright, clean eyes that were even more captivating than a girl's. He exuded masculinity, albeit lacking the youthful vigor of a young man. However, it was this silent and introverted melancholy that gave him a unique charm.
In this moment, he stared at Kendall with his mouth slightly open and his eyes wide in surprise, looking incredibly cute and interesting.
Kendall liked this type of good-looking, quiet, and obedient person.
She couldn't help but reach out and touch Ethan's chin, a playful action reminiscent of a mischievous young nobleman teasing an innocent girl in ancient times.
Ethan obviously didn't expect this, and after a moment of surprise, the innocent young man blushed.
In that moment, Kendall, who seemed harmless and even had a hint of a smile, made it hard for Ethan to associate her with the fierce person who had just wanted to strangle Kayla to death.
Kendall didn't tease him any further and began explaining the basics of hacking techniques. "Hacking techniques, in simple terms, involve discovering flaws and vulnerabilities in computer systems and networks, as well as the techniques to exploit these flaws. Flaws can include software vulnerabilities."
Ethan had a natural talent in this area and a high level of comprehension. Kendall only needed to explain once, and he understood what she was saying. He quickly got the hang of it.
Smart people are always likable. Kendall, with her genius-level talent, found Ethan even more endearing. The bad mood caused by Kayla had completely dissipated.
After confirming that Ethan was capable of learning and genuinely interested in this matter, Kendall continued.
Ethan said, "Huh?"
After purchasing a computer at the tech shop, Kendall went to the bank to get a card. Before they knew it, it was already noon.
Ethan followed Kendall back to the Glorious International Hotel.
On their second visit, Ethan appeared much more composed, though his heart still raced.
After lunch, the two of them took a taxi home.
In an effort to increase her physical activity and lose weight, Kendall decided to get off the taxi while they were still a considerable distance from home.
Kendall suggested that Ethan, who had difficulty walking, should continue the ride home. However, Ethan simply said, "I'll go with you." He got off the taxi to accompany her.
Meanwhile, outside the old residential area, a luxury car was parked, its understated opulence attracting many onlookers.
What drew even more attention was its license plate. It read, "Raven A0000."
Inside the comfortably warm car, a man in a suit sat in the back seat, legs crossed, patiently waiting as he looked out the window.
Soon, Kendall came into view.
"Sir, it's her," the driver-cum-assistant alerted the man as soon as he spotted Kendall.
When Sam had transferred money to Kendall, he had also investigated the basic information of his savior. The card Kendall used was issued by the school, making it easy for Sam to find out without much effort.
Before Sebastian left for Norwood City on his behalf, Sam had already sent him Kendall's information.
Having been in the business world for many years, Sebastian had encountered all sorts of people. In his eyes, Kendall was nothing special. She was just an ordinary girl, a bit overweight, with nothing particularly striking about her.
He couldn't comprehend why Sam was so concerned about her.
Just as he was pondering this, Kendall, who had nearly walked away, suddenly turned back and glanced at the car, her gaze meeting his accurately.
Sebastian's typically impassive face finally displayed a hint of emotion.
She's quite perceptive. An intelligent one.
Observing her once more, he found her features quite pleasing.
She will look even better once she loses weight.
Considering the amount of blood Sam had lost from the gunshot wound, most people, especially a young girl, would have been too scared to intervene.
No wonder Master Sam couldn't forget about his savior.
An electric bike zoomed past Kendall and Ethan. Ethan quickly shielded Kendall, who was distracted.
"Sis, what's wrong?" Ethan followed Kendall's gaze, only to see a car, and nothing else out of the ordinary.
No, the mere presence of such a luxury car here was unusual enough. "This car …"
Due to the tinted car window, Kendall couldn't see the people inside.
In fact, she had noticed the car the moment it came into her view, even before Sebastian did.
However, she didn't sense any ill intentions from the people in the car, so she didn't pay attention to it, until the person inside unabashedly fixed his gaze on her.
"Is there something wrong with this car?" Ethan asked.
"It's nothing, let's go." Kendall averted her gaze.
To reassure Sam, Sebastian took out his phone, opened the camera, and took a picture of Kendall.
Looking at the photo of Ethan walking alongside Kendall, Sebastian wondered, Is this her boyfriend?
