CHAPTER 16

On the way, the taxi driver excitedly chattered non-stop. If it weren't for the fear of getting a speeding ticket, he would have had the nerve to ask Hedy to take him for a spin in her car. He too had a dream of racing when he was young.

Hedy, bathed in the cool moonlight, navigated through the dilapidated residential area. The faint scent of osmanthus flowers wafted from a distant courtyard, lingering at the tip of her nose, refusing to dissipate.

As Hedy approached the entrance of the Turner Residence, she was about to push the door open when the faintest of breaths from a dark corner made her halt her actions. Without changing her expression, Hedy glanced towards the corner of the wall. Under the moonlight, she noticed the bloodstains she had previously buried with soil seemed to have been washed out by last night's heavy rain.

Retracting her gaze, Hedy acted as if nothing had happened and turned around to walk back in the direction she came from. Without a destination in mind, Hedy kept walking. After about half an hour, when she was sure she was far enough from the old residential area, she finally stopped. She stood at the foot of a hill behind the city, looking into the distance. She could still vaguely see the four-season osmanthus tree in the Turner Residence's courtyard.

"Aren't you coming out yet? How long do you plan to hide?" Hedy suddenly spoke out into the black surroundings. Her words sank into the thick night, and all around was calm.

However, the next second, several figures emerged from the darkness, their hostile gazes fixed on Hedy. As the world's number one assassin, Lucifer, she instantly recognized the aura of these people. They were from the same group that had pursued Sam that night.

Hedy couldn't help but feel puzzled. "Who sent you?"

The men, realizing that Hedy was no ordinary person, became alert. "What is your relationship with Sam?" one of them asked.

"Sam?" Hedy chuckled lightly, "I have no connection with that kid from the Thorn family."

Seeing Hedy deny it, the man in black was about to present evidence to confront her when Hedy changed the subject, "If I had to have a connection, it would be with someone of Sebastian's status. I might be interested in him."

Her words and tone were so arrogant that they left the men in black stunned, causing them to reconsider the relationship between this apparent nobody and the Thorn family and Sebastian. "I'll ask you again. Who sent you and what do you want with me?"

However, the men in black still did not answer her. Hedy looked at them indifferently, "Not talking? Then let me guess."

"You pursued Sam for profit, offended the Thorn family, and are now facing their retaliation. You are desperate and discovered that I saved Sam, so you came to me. You suspect that I have a close relationship with Sam and want to use me to negotiate with the Thorn family. Am I right?"

The men in black looked at each other, then reached for the guns in their jackets. "Since you've guessed it, I advise you to cooperate with us, or else."

"Do you know why I prefer to work alone rather than in a group?" Hedy's sudden question caught the men in black off guard. They didn't know what trick Hedy was trying to play and didn't respond. They just watched her warily, ready to act at any sign of movement.

"The reason is simple." Hedy slowly looked up. "Because no one is worthy to fight alongside me." Her eyes suddenly flashed, and her figure disappeared from the spot like a ghost. The next second, she appeared behind the men in black.

As several bodies fell to the ground, Hedy stood with her hands in her pockets, looking down coldly at the man at her feet who was still gasping for breath. "Actually, what I wanted to say was, when you act alone, only one fool dies. But when you act as if one person is a fool, none of you will survive."

Thinking of using her to negotiate with the Thorn family, what a foolish idea.

"Who... who are you..." The man in black clutched his bleeding neck, his eyes filled with resentment. Hedy looked at him indifferently, her lips parting to utter two words, "Lucifer."

The man in black's eyes widened in shock, and he drew his last breath.

Hedy returned to the Turner Residence, opened her computer, and began typing rapidly on the keyboard.

Meanwhile, in a hotel in Mehenya, a Cheshian man with long hair reaching his ears was sleeping soundly with a woman after a passionate encounter. Suddenly, his watch flashed. The man instantly opened his eyes, looked at his watch, and immediately pushed the woman sleeping in his arms away and sat up. He pressed a button on the left side of his watch, and a blue light emitted from the watch face, revealing an electronic projection screen in front of him. Upon seeing the layers of encryption, he knew that there was only one person who could contact him this way. The man immediately rolled out of bed and moved to the sofa with his laptop.

"Is it really you, Lucifer?"

"Yes."

"I knew you weren't dead! Even if all those old b*stards from Viper Shadow are dead, you can't be!" Yves tried to suppress his excitement, but his eyes still reddened slightly. "Where are you now? I'll come find you." Yves typed rapidly on the keyboard, eager to know his friend's situation.

"I can't meet you right now. My situation is a bit special. I'll explain when the time is right."

"I'm in a delicate position and can't expose myself. Can you help me dispose of a few bodies? Quickly."

"Alright, leave it to me."

That night, a mysterious person secretly disposed of several bodies at the foot of the back mountain, leaving no trace of blood. The back mountain was lush, and the wind was gentle. No one would ever think that several people had just died there.

The situation with Hedy was too special. She hadn't planned to contact Yves so soon. Letting people know she was still alive wasn't a good thing, even if Yves was someone she trusted. If the Shadow Clan found out she was still alive, given her current situation, she would have a hard time fending off their relentless pursuit.

However, things didn't go as planned. Hedy didn't expect to save a person and end up with trouble. Asking for 150 thousand for that was a loss. Thinking of money, a message came in on her phone showing a deposit of 450 thousand into her account.

The next day in Raven City.

Early in the morning, upon hearing that his men had lost track of the individuals dressed in black whom they were pursuing in Norwood City, Sam immediately sought out Sebastian. He was concerned that those individuals had gone to Norwood City with the intention of targeting the girl who had saved him.

Sebastian responded, "I will send someone to investigate."

"Uncle, I want to go myself. After all, she is the one who saved my life. If anything were to happen to her because of me, I would feel guilty for the rest of my life."

Observing Sam's anxiety, Sebastian pondered for a moment. He closed the newspaper he was reading and said, "Since you are so worried, how about I go there myself?"

Sam was taken aback, "You, you're going to Norwood City for me?"

Sebastian replied, "You are still injured and should not be traveling. Since she saved your life, she is a benefactor to our Thorn family. It is only right for me, as an elder, to go on your behalf."

"But..." Sam hesitated. Despite being only six years younger than his uncle and having grown up together, he had always been afraid of him. He did not understand him at all, especially his unpredictable behavior. He was genuinely concerned that his uncle would frighten the young girl. Most importantly, he wanted to go himself.

"What, am I not qualified? I am an elder of the Thorn family, no?"

"No, no, that's not it."

"Then it is settled. You go back and rest."

Hedy had stayed up late the previous night, but she still woke up early to go for a run and worked up a sweat. She returned to her room with the intention of catching up on some sleep. However, just as she had fallen asleep, she was awakened by Kayla.
