Chapter 44: In Your Arms

*Sophie’s POV*

"Hey. Hey redhead, don't you die on me, especially not before I get my money." I could feel Richard's hands tapping my face. My head was throbbing, and I felt as if I would pass out at any moment.

Richard tried to get me to eat, but I refused. I wasn't going to give him the satisfaction of wanting to care for me while holding me hostage.

"Drink some water, d*mit!" he yelled, shoving a bottle of water toward my lips. I shook my head defiantly and turned my face away from the bottle.

The thought of doing everything I could to stay alive for my family crossed my mind many times, but I wanted to hold on to hope that Nigel would send the police before I gave in to Richard. The thought of him wanting to help me repulsed me.

"Do you think Nigel would want to see you like this, weak and feeble?" he shouted, throwing the water bottle on the floor.

"How dare you, Richard?! I'm sure Nigel didn't want me to be kidnapped, yet here I am," I sarcastically replied.
