Once Ran had finally started talking, though, Alex knew why he hadn’t succeeded.

“…and as soon as he dropped me off, I had to call a cab to take me back to Mount Holly.”

“To get your car.”

“Yes. What am I supposed to do, Alex?” Ran asked.

Alex studied his older brother’s face. Goddammit, if he ever got his hands on Scott Winston…It didn’t matter that Scott had been a friend of his. The son of a bitch shouldn’t have done what he did to Ran.

“I was this close…” Ran held his thumb and forefinger so they were almost touching. “…to having dinner with my executive secretary.”

“And that would have been so bad?”

Ran looked tired. “You know it would have been.”

“Because…?”

“It wouldn’t have ended with dinner.”
