"WITH WHOM DID YOU MAKE THE BLOOD OATH?" Albert gripped both Dominick's shoulders, shaking them by force, harder than he had intended. He asked angrily, "Answer me, Dominick!"

      There was a beat of silence, and then, "No." His jaws were clamped together. He grumbled and was so upset. "It will not make any change if I tell you. You will not care, nevertheless." And this great Duke of Gregory already had his body faced the sturdy wooden door. He wanted to leave. And he was ready to go. What was he thinking? He should have expected this. For years Dominick had been holding this burden in, and at last, when he let it all out, he still received the same disappointment. Great. So great.

      "Stop, Dominick!" Albert shouted suddenly, enraged, and he asked. "Why did you make this oath?"
