2 Totally a Saint (1)

A soft breeze flew in from the slightly open window, the white silk curtains dangled around softly. The breeze touched a young man's blond hair, causing his eyelids to flutter open, revealing light blue eyes.

Lin rubbed his eyes lazily and examined his soft tender hands. He opened his mouth,

"System...are you there?" The voice that came from his mouth was completely different from his original voice, it was light and had a certain air to it. When the system introduced itself the day before, he could hardly believe it.

It felt as if he was the main character of a story, and he was tasked to save the world from evil with a cheat system. However, its words immediately snapped Lin out of his foolish thoughts.

"I can help you fix the novel however, you must remember, you are not the main character. If you stray too much from the personality the world has set for you, your soul would be damaged beyond repair and will shatter. Knowing this, do you still wish to go inside the novel?"

This made Lin pause.

"When you say my soul will shatter...does that mean death?"

"Correct."

"..." Lin thought about the pros and cons. His parents died before he could even see, and his relatives never really bothered to raise him properly. Only ensuring he was alive. His home situation caused him to isolate himself from his peers in school, causing more problems.

If he accepted the offer, then he would be able to escape from this hellish lifestyle. But if he strayed too much from the mission, he would die.

"...I accept." He'd rather escape this lifestyle and risk death. And who knows? Maybe he'll be really good at completing the missions.

"Ding! Thank you for registering to 'Bad Guy System'!"

"I am here." The system's dull voice snapped him out of his stupor.

"..What novel am I in?" Lin didn't particularly remember a person with blond hair and blue eyes with a major role...

"You are in the novel 'Black Duckling's Revenge'"

"...You're not joking right?"

"I never joke."

"...Okay?" Inside, Lin sighed. Unlike the cute title, it was actually a dark story about a commoner going through many hardships in order to defeat the Demon Lord. Anaiel Pauden was one of them.

Anaiel Pauden was the current Saint of the Holy Church. He was thought of as God's messenger and was revered highly. However behind that mask, he was a selfish jerk with a inflated ego. Raised with care since birth and spoiled rotten, it was no wonder Anaiel was like this. But for some reason, everyone outside his family didn't know this.

That's why Merui, (the commoner) fell for his soft mask and did many favors for him as he thought Anaiel was like him. That's why when Merui found out that Anaiel had tried to kill him using an secret organization, he immediately started to try and rise in strength in order to kill Anaiel himself.

(In case you're wondering why Anaiel did this in the first place, it's literally because he was jealous of Merui's extraordinary talent that allowed him to scale the ranks quickly.)

This was one of the main hardships since this shaped Merui's personality. And just as he was about to kill Anaiel with his two hands...he died to an illness before Merui could even start his 5 episode speech.

In short, there was a huge buildup to this fight but the Author just didn't want it to happen, so he just killed of Anaiel and replaced him with an innocent and cute female lead that made almost all the readers forget about Anaiel.

"...And i'm in the cannon fodder's body?"

"Correct. Also, you're main mission is let Merui overcome this hardship and make him stronger. The huge hole that the Author created from Anaiel's death completely threw this world off its course. So it's your job to 'fix' the story."

"Wait, how...could even a story that someone made up even become a world?"

"As long as you have the setting and characters, the world will create itself somewhere in this universe. Even now, we could be characters of a novel and have no way of knowing unless the Author wanted us to." The system's voice seemed lost.

"...You-"

"I was joking with the last part."

"You said you didn't joke."

"Stop putting words in my mouth and complete your mission." The system's voice seemed to be annoyed.

"Oi, at least tell me what part of the plot we're in right now!" Lin rolled his eyes and grumbled.

"Right now, it's the day after Anaiel tried to kill Merui with the organization. Merui already found out it was you and his heading for you. It will be 2 more days before he arrives."

"...I'm already dead aren't I???????!!!" Anaiel buried his face in his hands and whined around on the comfortable bed.

"Do not worry, at this stage, Merui is merely a beautiful fish in the sea. {Basically just means slightly unusual person in the vast world, in case you didn't get it :p }" The system assured Lin.

"Oh yeah..." At this stage, Merui would just be C+ ranked adventurer that had met Anaiel by chance. Even though Merui was growing really fast, it didn't change the fact that Anaiel was A+ rank for a long time.

"By the way, how long would it take for Merui to reach A rank like me?"

"Depends on what situation he faces. Even though he's heaven's favorite child, if you mess things up, Merui could die and result in mission failure. So make sure you don't put him in a too dangerous situation. If you manage to do things right, it will take 8-12 months for him to reach B-."

"Huh, I see....Well then, let's start this mission." Anaiel stood up from the bed and opened the soft curtains.
