Sirius knew that many of these students would die in the 'Hollberg Massacre' event as in the original book and though unrelated to him. But on the day of the 'Hollberg Massacre' Sirius wanted to save a few people who were his classmates anyway. This is no longer the world in the novel, now everything is real so Sirius cherishes the lives of every human being of course he will save those he thinks are good.
