1 Chapter 1: That Dream

At six in the morning, Bowie Parks awoke in a cold sweat, struggling to breathe. Looking around in his old, familiar apartment, he breathed a sigh of relief knowing he is safe from whatever that was in his dream he had last night.

"Ugh.. What's with all the dream waking up in a dream stuff.."

He murmurs to himself before jumping out of bed before checking himself in the mirror. His left eye is still in pain and all red, wondering if it is a normal infection but it is starting to grow a bit of a concern. Turning on the radio to kill the silence, looking at the time before going into his bathroom to prepare for today's work, wondering what future holds for him. As the news came in, drowning out the silence and the sound of running water.

"In today's news we have Joanne Kale turning out to be a Valegant, as her right eye was replaced with the mark of the wood carver last night-"

Bowie scoffed at the news, thinking about how silly it will be for a Valegant to be carving woods making it and turn it into life or dance to her will, But the more he thought about it just to be a Valegant you must be truly lucky since only 50 people out of a billion could receive such gift... A literal power that only resonate with your hobby while having to fight these so on called 'Kavises' that wanted to eat their power, reminding himself of a video he watched of a Valegant fighting the air like a mad man forgetting to take his schizophrenia pills. While Bowie was busy thinking to himself while washing his hair, a phone vibrated before starting the ringtone. The ringtone severed him with his own thought only for a second as he walked out of the bathroom to pick up the phone, breathing deeply to prepare the heavy weight of his work so early in the morning.

"Good morning, Mr. Bowie Parks, I am so sorry to interrupt your morning but this is an emergency... The boss's computer broke again and it seems he really needs you to come and fix it..."

Bowie gave a loud sigh, agreeing to come to work early once again today before ending the call, his cat, Mrs. Felina come walking staring at Bowie, he stared back before pouring Jibbles into the cat bowl, Mrs. Felina nuzzled his legs as a thank you before eating her Jibbles, Bowie quickly put on his uniform before turning off the lights and running out of the apartment. Onto his bike before dashing onto the streets, as the sun rises on the horizon, he looked up into the skies appreciating the beauty of the earth and the space above, it is something to keep his mind off the stress of life just to wander the space above, a simple coping mechanism that works in the long run, Bowie shook his head, looking back onto the road as he stopped by a bakery near the office he worked in, parking his bike and walking in just to be greeted by the same familiar voice of his old friend.

"Oh hello, Bowie! Another busy day yeah? You want the usual?"

Said Donna, the baker and the cashier of this bakery beside Bowie's company building, cheap price yet such high quality pastries, Bowie nodded giving a slight smile, looking down checking on his phones checking for any news about his friends life and those seems to be having a much better week than him, but jealousy wouldn't take him anywhere, turning off his phone and paying for his pastries, Donna waves goodbye behind him and Bowie turned around before waving goodbye back, his left eyes hurts even more but that does not matter, walking into an elevator getting onto his boss's office, opening the door to see his boss waiting, he stood up before apologizing for calling him in so early and will give an extra 10 bucks for fixing the computer, Bowie simply shook his head refusing the money.

"It is alright boss, I am just glad you chose me to be your trusty tech guy."

Bowie laughed as his boss follows, his boss doesn't like the negative air so he had been going around talking to his employees making them either happy or uncomfortable, he is not the best at speaking but he is trying his best; and he pays his employees very fairly, so compared to other bosses, this boss is a very good one indeed, loved by most of his employees including Bowie himself.

"Hey, Mr. Bowie your eyes are still infected? It seems much worse than before, you surely should get that figured out, it has been concerningly long for a simple infection, hm... Or maybe you could be one of the chosen Valegant?"

Bowie laughed telling his boss that it could not be possible, though deep in his head, he had a slight hope that he is a Valegant, wishing to have the power of the blessed eye, being to cast cool spells and with something that you love? It is such a neat thing to have, and they aren't forced to join the group either, they are allowed to live a normal life because these spells does not impact the world's object, though it does make a funny video, as his boss was leaving the room, Bowie quickly get started with fixing his boss's computer, still thinking to himself of what he could possibly be with those powers, but thinking about it, maybe the Kavises aren't visible to the normal human eye, maybe that is why he can't see anything in the video, there was a few times that these Valegants created massive holes in the ground, he is certain that there are some secret bases that are watching over these Valegants.

And with a final touch, he rebooted the computer as he sat down on the chair to wait, just now only realizing that his left eye that has been hurting for days are getting blurry, scared, he quickly rub his eyes just to open it to an even worse pain, Bowie cried in agony, falling off the chair, his left eye is burning like bleach were poured over his eyes, on the ground holding his closed left eye while trying to control his breathing while others who had took notice are calling for help but no one there step near Bowie fearing that they will make his situation's worse so they just stood there either a camera or just panicking, the pain slowly fades away but still tingling, he catches his breath and try to open his left eye but his eye lids won't open, his boss came running into the office carrying now confused Bowie, overwhelmed by pain, overjoyed that hes alive and beyond confused about his left eyelid not opening, the only thing that came out of his mouth are stutters, incomprehensible words as he looked around the office with his right eye, already missing what was once his left eye and being able to see everything like normal.

"I-It's alright Mr. Bowie, It is alright, breathe, breathe... Try to slowly open your eyes alright?"

His boss said and Bowie nodded and tried to open his left eye but to no effect, it is still shut Bowie steady his breathing before using his own hands to force open his own eyelid, but gave up after he felt even worse pain, Bowie looked at his boss and his colleagues that are watching over him and giving them a thumbs up signaling that he is alright.

"I think my left eye is somehow got glued shut, I tried to open it but it hurts like hell, s-so I suggest just call the ambulance please...?"

Everyone looked at each other in silence mumbling, Bowie is just as confused as they are but he had to get himself some help first, his boss got told that an ambulance is already on their way and he came back to Bowie before giving an approval pat on the back.

"You held up great Bowie, don't worry man, the ambulance here to help you, and I'll help you out with the bills, not all but some... Hope you don't mind"

Bowie thanked his boss before he stood up and walking outside to wait for the ambulance, while deeply wondering if he will only see this earth with only one of his eye open forever, a minor fear settles in his heart, but his will only grew stronger knowing that he is still seeing with his right eye, noting to himself that if he were to lose his eye, it would be all right after all, maybe he got get himself a cool eyepatch, maybe some rad tattoo on his left eyelid, as the ambulance comes, a little part of him knowing that he would be alright as long as the sky are still flickering through the leaves, he stood up and get into the ambulance.

"I honestly felt like Bowie will have a big event in his life very very soon, and I do not wanna be there when it happens, it would haunt me forever.."

Boss said to his secretary, while checking his emails with his now fixed computer. The secretary looked at him with a slight suspicion and a bit of creeped out face, the boss took noticed of it very quickly.

"Look, I heard that a Valegant getting their magic eyes have these symptoms, it is not a secret you know? and I don't know what happens next, I just heard it is scary so that is why I don't wanna see it."

The secretary sighed in relief giving out a slight giggle to her boss.

"Mr. Devin, sometimes you do scare me on how you talk, from what I heard it is a beautiful ceremony!"

Devin nodded anxiously at his secretary, apologizing to her before going back to work, though in his other hand he is noting something down. The secretary left the room, Devin grabbed his phone and contacted Bowie, just to come up with a voice mail, Bowie is pretty much in the operating room, how will he explain it to the doctors, Devin wondered.

"U-Uh... I-I don't know... I had this eye infection for like a few days? and it got worse all the sudden and suddenly my eye was closed shut in the middle of work and I can't see! I promise I didn't put in super glue in my eye, why would you think that?!"

Bowie is trying to explain to the doctors, using his hand languages and his voice explaining in such a hurry with anxiety mixed in, stuttering in utter confusion, the nurse and the doctor looked at each other before going back trying to open his eyelids, Bowie calmed down, as he let the doctors do their jobs, after awhile the doctor spotted a strange burnt scar on his left eyelid, but the scar was shaped like an intentional scar, curving lines that is way too perfect to be accidental, eventually opening Bowie's eye, as he whines in pain but instead of seeing a normal eye there, the eye that once had the black pupil is now white, and the sclera is bloodshot, Bowie sat in silence already knowing the results that he is blinded since his left eyelid had been opened but still no sight, Bowie listened to the doctors while his mind going blank, as soon as they are finished he paid his fees and Devin helped out too, and he left the hospital.

A long bike back to his apartment, with nothing but silence in his head, looking at the sky wasn't the same, maybe this is much worse than what he had predicted it would be, though, there are no tears, this is not much of a surprising news. It is his fault for not checking up in the first place but still, the life he world that he sees could never be the same ever again, just being there left to wonder, unlocking the door and he was greeted by Mrs. Felina but instead of the usual picking up and cuddling Bowie walked to his bed and sat on it. Staring at the ground with his half open eye, he took his sight for granted but now that it's gone, he missed it so much.

Though, one sadness could not last forever, a point was made and it shall be moved on even if it means that how he will see life will never be the same, literally, attempting to properly adjust his new eyesight with only right, he walked to the convenience store by the cross roads, but while walking, he always spot this weird person following them, unlike any normal outfit but its slightly glowing with a blue hue, but he did not mind it as much as he kept on walking to the thrift store, but the streets is quieter than usual, and it is oddly cold out tonight.

"Thy curiosity of the cosmos Hath been answered, Thy time Hath come, Thou shall be the commander of the cosmos."

Stopped dead in his tracks, standing before him, a young lady with long hair, wearing a mask with the mark of the cosmos which looks like a comet, both of her hands are holding something, Bowie stepped back, feeling something is off he slowly stepped back away from the young lady who slowly approached him, her arms are fading from dark blue to black, then fading back to dark blue again, her voice is as comforting like the dead of the night.

"My name is Koyil, your guide of the mark of the cosmos."

Koyil slowly lift her hands up, all with grace in her movements, slowly open her palm to reveal a glowing eye with the mark of the cosmos on it, Bowie looked at the eye before realizing that he actually is one of the lucky ones that will become a Valegant, though after giving a thought he stepped back.

"I-I am a Valegant? M-Mark of the cosmos?"

Koyil did not make any movement, only her hands gave a slight flick, and she approached the now standing still Bowie, slowly reaching her arms out to Bowie's face, the touch cold like the outer space, sending shivers down his spine but that start of a new life, he thought, as Koyil smiled slightly and jammed her hand into Bowie's left eye that had been blinded, he screamed in pain as blood starts pooling out of his eyes, his heart is beating faster and his adrenaline is rushing through his veins, he can feel his own eyes being pulled out with force.

"A-ARGH FU- FUCK FUCK ARGHHHHHHH"

His scream will only echo through the empty night, as the opening for a new life for Bowie opens up.
