Chapter 12: Killing The Half-Orc Spy

Rebecca Hudgens, the elite vampire player, is on the 12th floor of the Intermediate Stage.

She's chasing an elite orc spy of the Necromancer Guild that she caught exchanging information with an elf she just killed on the spot.

Good thing there are a few elite vampires around in that place to take care of the training, security, and welfare of the vampire initiates, or else those elite players who belonged to the enemy would have wrecked the place, and laid waste to their plans without a second thought.

She thought to herself.

Those damn beasts these fucking orcs ride on are extremely fast. Good thing I got superspeed as an ability, and I can turn into a large bat. I need to close the distance fast, or this orc will escape.

She thought as she turned into a bat and increased her speed to catch up with that of the fleeing orc.

A few hours of a wild chase up and down the floors of the Intermediate Stage happened before she finally cornered the elite orc, who stopped to rest in an inn on the 3rd floor of the Intermediate Stage.

"Inuk the Clever, give it up. I caught you. What are you doing, spying on vampire territory? You're really as clever as the stories I've heard about you."

Rebecca said while carrying a goblet of wine that she ordered from the inn counter.

She approached Inuk and sat in a seat next to him.

"Rebecca Hudgens, what do you want?"

The elite orc replied to Rebecca, obviously surprised.

"Pretending to be dumb, eh, sly orc? I know what you did. Who sent you to spy on the vampires?"

Rebecca said with an evil grin.

She poured the goblet of wine she is holding straight onto the head of the orc.

"Will you talk, or not? It happens that I'm craving orc blood, and if you don't cooperate, you'll end up as my next meal.'

A dagger with rune inscriptions on the handle materialized in Rebecca's pale right hand.

She placed her dagger at the orc's neck and bared her fangs.

A sudden and hushed silence filled the once noisy inn, as the other players turned their heads to watch the quickly escalating scene.

"isn't that Rebecca the elite vampire? Looks like someone unfortunate enough pissed her off so badly he's about to become her next meal."

Rebecca could overhear the other players talking to each other in hushed tones thanks to her heightened senses, but she didn't care.

"For Hashimoto's sake, Rebecca. Put that dagger down. I'll talk. "

Inuk said calmly, trying not to make his rising panic obvious.

Rebecca put her dagger down, then ordered another goblet of wine.

She finished the whole shot of wine in one sitting.

"Let's talk somewhere private. The other players here can overhear our conversation. It's a pain in the ass to contain an information leak because someone starts babbling, correct?"

Rebecca said to Inuk

Inuk immediately understood what Rebecca meant, and he agreed.

Rebecca grabbed Inuk's arm, and they reappeared later in the woods.

"What is this place? Where did you bring me? I told you the whole truth earlier while we were traveling, I swear. "

Inuk said in alarm as he realized what Rebecca is plotting while they walked along the dark path.

"Wrong, Inuk. You're lying all along. Didn't you consider for once that I'm a mind reader? I can make up better excuses than you, sly orc."

Rebecca bared her fangs again at Inuk.

Before Inuk could react, she used her superspeed and the enchanted rope she bought from the system store to tie Inuk securely in a seated position to one of those tall trees dotting the entire background.

"Give me a convincing reason why I shouldn't kill you, Inuk. Oh, and the hungry creatures of darkness are on the prowl here again."

Rebecca said menacingly to Inuk, her fangs still bared.

Her dagger reappeared in her pale right hand, and she pressed it at Inuk's neck.

"Don't even think of breaking free. This rope is enchanted, specially made to contain tank-build players with the strength of a warrior like you."

Rebecca smirked.

"We're both sly and clever, Rebecca. There's no need to do this. I'm willing to come clean and switch sides. I can be your spy and spy on the Necromancer Guild for you. You should reconsider this."

"And why should I trust you and believe you? I caught you lying earlier. I caught you exchanging info with that elf. Tell me, did you bribe that elf to give you information? You should have at least covered up your tracks, you sly bastard."

"I can make myself of use, and be your most trusted and capable ally if you spare me. Please. "

Inuk pleaded with Rebecca, but she just laughed him off.

"Who are you to talk to me about loyalty and trust? I know your history. You lied, bought, bribed, and manipulated your way to the top, correct? I know we're no different, but the difference is I did it to safeguard the vampires. As for you, you're a turncoat who only thinks about your own skin. "

Before Inuk could open his mouth again, she shut him up with a tirade of her own.

"I know what you're thinking. You look panicked, for someone who sent a lot of players to their deaths. Has it occurred to you that one day, you'll get caught by the enemy, and tables will turn? I've been left to die, gaslighted, and turned on by scum like you, scum I once thought to be allies. Where are they now? I had all of them put to death. "

"Why are you telling me this?"

'You're too dangerous to be left alive. Goodbye, half-human orc."

Rebecca fatally stabbed Inuk in the abdomen, making the half-orc cry out in pain.

Then she turned around, and walked away, ignoring the half-orc's desperate pleas for forgiveness and assistance as the half-orc felt his life slowly drain away.

She knew that if the wound from the dagger doesn't kill him, then the creatures of darkness, attracted by the scent of his blood, will finish him off.
