Chapter 20: Kitamura Yuuta - First Part

Another one. Fuck. How many of these am I gonna have?

I stared around at the darkness I once left.

The darkness grew brighter and brighter. Soon the darkness became light but it didn't stop. It grew brighter and brighter to the point my eyes began to burn. I felt tears fall from my eyes and now I was kicking as well.

I felt my body being held by something bigger than me. My vision was blurry so I couldn't see but I could just about make out two people wearing the same thing.

They wore something blue and wore a mask.

Where was I? The light's too bright.

The doctors then spoke to each other and then to a third person who was out of my peripheral.

Japanese? I'm back in Japan now?

It has been six months since I was born. My name is Kitamura Yuuta. I don't have any siblings meaning I am an only child. I have spent my days trying to understand this world however I cannot do anything too out of the ordinary because a six-month-old baby cannot read, write and speak fluently in over 5,000 different languages.

I did live in Japan before so I was familiar with its traditions. This planet seems to be the same Earth I used to live on.

I usually spent my time reading novels on my parents' bookshelf whenever they left me alone. My parents didn't seem to be the type to be overprotective so I did have my alone time but at times my parents did spend an excruciating amount of time with me.

I had finished all the books on the bookshelf after a week. I was only alone for around twenty minutes or when I was "sleeping" I would read for an hour before I suddenly went to sleep.

My mother read many novels and finished all the books on her bookshelf in less than a month. Unlike my mother, my father wasn't so much fond of books of often argued with my mother for wasting money on novels but she never listened and bought many novels.

I did expect my parents to separate however that hasn't happened yet and I didn't want it to happen because I have grown fond of my new parents. They smothered me with love and let me have my alone time although I had never told them that I liked being alone.

My father was a strong man and worked hard for his family as an accountant and my mother stayed at home as a housewife.

My father had dark hair while my mother had light brown hair. My father also had dark brown coloured eyes and my mother had light green—in terms of appearance and personality they were almost the exact opposite.

I inherited my mother's eyes and my mother's hair however my personality seemed to resemble my father's.

A year has gone past and I have grown accustomed to my new life. I started talking at the age of thirteen months and started walking at the age of nine months so I was gifted with strength in this life.

My mother had taught me mathematics and science at the middle school level however I knew beyond it so I wasn't really learning anything. My father also taught me life lessons but like my mother, it wasn't anything I didn't know already. My father was also extremely skilled in the game of chess so he had also taught me it but then again, it wasn't anything I didn't know before. My father was on the international master level so if I had beaten him I would most definitely raised attention and suspicion.

"Yuuta," My father called me before he moved his last piece. "You will surpass me, I know you will with that hidden talent. Checkmate."

My eyes glimmered at my father. The first time my father has praised me. Now to make my father proud I had to surpass him.

"Yes…yes I will!" I exclaimed. My father smiled at me which warmed my once-cold heart.

"Your mother and I will be proud when that day comes."

My father then held his hat and put it on his head. He then grabbed his chestnut trench coat and put it on. He then hugged my mother who was in tears as she came out of the kitchen.

Huh? What's happening?

I looked down because my eyes suddenly became blurry. I wiped my eyes to see tears had fallen.

No…please…

I looked up again to see my father smile at me one last time before he shut the door never to be seen again.

My mother dropped down to the ground and started crying. The crying soon turned to wail as she screamed at the top of her lungs.

What the fuck just happened?

I got up from the floor and stood up staring blankly at the brown door. I clenched my fists and ran towards the door but my mother grabbed me and took me in her arms. I looked up to see my mother's eyes fill with tears.

"It's fine, Yuuta…he's gone…" She forced a smile at me before it turned to her solemn expression.

I felt my body twitch perpetually without any warning. My hands were shaking and cold sweat run down my back and forehead. I started to hiccup repetitively as well while my mother's tears fell on my face.

We both fell asleep together on the floor that day.

When I was only two years old my father left for a reason I didn't know because I couldn't bring myself to ask my mother.

Things became hard for me and my mother very quickly. My mother got a job and she left me at home alone many times.

"Yuuta! Yuuta!" My mother came to my room jumping with joy.

"What?" I said looking up from my book.

"Someone said they can stay with you!"

"So I won't be alone anymore?"

"Yeah!"

I had become used to being alone and now I didn't know how to act around people. My mother was the only person I've seen other than TV for the past two years.

"Why would I want that?" I replied sharply.

"Why not?" My mother asked. I didn't reply and let her take her time to think of the reason. "They also play chess."

Since my father left I only played chess with myself so now I could play with someone else?

"Alright then but if I don't like them could you tell them to not come again."

"Fine then."

We came to a consensus.

The next day my mother woke me up early and told me to meet the person who would be staying with me and if I liked them they would come every day when my mother goes to work until my mother comes back.

I sat in my father's chair as I waited for the person. My mother had made me wear my dark grey shorts and an orange t-shirt even though she knew I hated shorts. The door suddenly rang and my mother ran to it and opened the door.

"Thank you for staying with Yuuta." My mother said as she opened the door.

"No problem, Yoshino-san."

The woman was tall even for a woman. She seemed to be in her late twenties and wore regular clothes. She had dark-coloured hair and glaring yet kind blue eyes. She then saw me and smiled.

"You must be Yuuta-kun!" She exclaimed. A small child then appeared next to her leg. "I've brought my daughter as well so you two can play with each other!"

Her daughter seemed to be shy yet kind. She had long brown hair which draped down on her white summer dress and timid yet kind pair of blue eyes just like her mother.

"Thank you Matsushima-san for staying with me while my mother works."

"Oh my, your son seems like a young gentleman." Matsushima said. "You certainly know your manners, Yuuta-kun."

The woman smiled at me while kneeling down on one knee so she was on my level. She then put her arm around her daughter and pushed her forward.

"Yuuta-kun, this is my daughter Kyoko, try not to upset her and please play with her."

I looked up at my mother who looked at me smiling. She seemed to have understood what I meant as she then introduced Matsushima's daughter.

"Yuuta, Kyoko has been playing chess since she was two years old and Matsushima-san is a grandmaster."

Mother, you brought two extremely wealthy people to our house. What exactly are you planning?

"Oh, then let's start right now!" I exclaimed as I took Kyoko's hand and took her to the living room. My chess board was already set up as I was playing by myself as I waited for Matsushima to arrive.

We started our game and my mother and Matsushima-san watched us while we played. As we got into the middlegame I could already see that Kyoko wasn't any ordinary player. Although she wasn't on the level of…of some great players but she was only four years old. In one year she has reached a level on par with some international masters. She wasn't as good as my father but she was still four years old.

I could feel her mother's eyes on me as we played. I didn't need to see her face to know her facial expression.

"Checkmate." I said.

Matsushima analysed the board before sighing.

"Your son is extremely good, Yoshino-san."

My mother smiled at me and Matsushima seem to have grown some affection towards me now however Kyoko looked at me with an extremely angered expression.

"Kyoko? Is something wrong?" I asked.

Kyoko then flipped the chess board and ran into her mother who then held her tight in her arms.

"I'm sorry, Yuuta-kun, she's never behaved like this before." Matsushima spoke to me in a soft tone.

That was my first friend, Matsushima Kyoko.

I was now seven years old. I had already started elementary school and was now in my second year of it. Kyoko had gone to a different elementary. After three months after we had joined elementary school I stopped seeing Kyoko and Matsushima.

I didn't have any friends because of my lack of social skills and kids looked at me and called me "weird" and after that everyone avoided me.

I was walking home just like any regular day however I suddenly had an excruciating migraine. My vision was blurry and it felt like a nail was being drilled into my head. I felt as if I might pass out but it soon went.

It was my birthday so I ran home as fast as I could. It was the 3rd of May and my mother must've prepared a large chocolate cake for me just like all my other birthdays.

Kill.

I heard a voice but I couldn't see where it came from.

Kill.

I heard it again.

Kill.

Now it became more and more repetitive and all I could hear was the voice. I ran as fast as I could, however, I ran into a lampost and then everything went dark.

I woke up to a starry sky. The sky was filled with bright stars and the moonlight shone on my face. I quickly got up after realised how much time had passed. The sun was now gone and the moon took its place.

I arrived at my house and all that separated me from my mother now was the door. I opened the door and found that the house was dark.

Maybe she's going to surprise me.

I close the door behind me and took off my shoes. I then walked into the living room to see it was brightly lit by eight candles which sat on top of a two-tier chocolate cake. My face lit up with joy as I walked over to the cake. As I walked to the cake I realised that my mother was sleeping on the couch.

I bent down and poked my mother's face. She muttered some things in her sleep but I couldn't understand what she said. She then finally woke up and when she saw me she started to smile. She then patted my head and sat up on the couch.

"You can eat the cake now."

I didn't question my mother and grabbed the small knife which sat on top of the table next to the cake. I held it tightly in my hand and hovered it on top of the cake.

Kill.

The voice came again.

I tried to block it out however I then found myself pointing the knife at my mother.

Huh?

"Yuuta, what are you doing?" My mother said as her voice began to break.

What am I doing?

I held my right hand with my left hand and tried to pull it away but nothing happened. I then slapped my hand so hard that both hands became red but the knife never left my grasp.

In one quick motion, my hand slashed the air.

How wrong I was on that day.

I opened my eyes to see my mother gasping for air. Blood dripped from her throat as she looked at me with helpless eyes.

"…Yuu...ta…"

My mother then collapsed to the ground. I stared at her lifeless body in horror.

What…have…I…done…

The knife fell from my hand and landed next to my mother's body. I then opened the door and walked outside without closing the door behind me or putting on any shoes. The ground was hard and cold but it didn't seem to cross my mind that I was walking in the streets in the dark by myself without any shoes on and with blood on my clothes.

"Hey kid!" I heard a voice but I didn't even try to look for where it came from. I then felt someone grab me but I didn't try to resist.
