Chapter 2: Out Of The Darkness

We all stood near the perimeter of the manor waiting for the Training of the Chamber to end. I suddenly heard a voice in my head. It was telepathy. Someone was trying to communicate with me. I closed my eyes and listened to what the person had to say because anyone who could speak to me through telepathy without needing my permission had to be extremely powerful.

"Yes?" I asked in my head.

"Socrates, something has happened." The voice sounded familiar.

"Valentina? What happened?"

"Did you tell him that no one had survived the Chamber?" The woman asked. I sighed out of frustration.

"I've told you multiple times that I haven't." I sighed.

"Well something has happened." Whatever happened must have been serious because of Valentina's tone; It almost sounded shaky. I have never heard her like this before. "I can't explain it but something has gone wrong!"

"We can't stop it now—"

Suddenly we heard something. It was loud like a bomb which made the girl Levantes talks to and the assassin that tried to kill Levantes jump.

"What was that?" The girl spoke, startled by the noise. I used magic to search however it couldn't detect anything.

A chill went down my spine as I then realised something.

If I wasn't able to detect them then they would be more powerful than me. Just who exactly was it? A being on that level could not have just stumbled across us.

It cannot have been Levantes because the Training of the Chamber isn't able to make a person that powerful.

* * * * * *

I searched around for what could have made the noise but I didn't find anything. I looked at Levantes's uncle to see if he had any idea of who it could be but he was also confused and thinking of something.

Levantes's uncle, Socrates, invited me to his manor to see Levantes however I still haven't seen him. I have also met someone who is apparently Levantes's servant.

There was then a loud crash and the dust of debris filled the air and covered our vision. I coughed as I accidentally inhaled the debris and I felt my eyes stinging which then caused my eyes to water. I suddenly heard slow footsteps walking towards our direction. The footsteps became closer and closer.

I then felt my body shiver. I then almost collapsed to the ground but I held myself up with my hands. I was now on all fours on the ground but I couldn't pick myself up. I then felt something run up my throat. I quickly covered my mouth as I coughed. I then looked at my hands which were covered in blood.

I looked up to see where the person was. I could now almost make out a silhouette in the dust.

The person was tall and had an athletic build. The person also had short messy hair with two horns coming out of their head. Their horns curved slightly like the blade of a dagger. I then saw the person's eyes, they were nothing as I had seen before. It almost seemed as if they were glowing. Their eyes seemed like two balls of fire glowing in the dust.

The dust soon cleared up and we could see more clearly now.

I recognised the person, it was Levantes. He was wearing a grey linen shirt and a pair of grey pants which exposed his ankles. He wasn't wearing any footwear and walked casually on the broken debris. He also had the same features as before but there was something different about his eyes.

They seemed different.

It was as if he had seen many different lives.

As if he had met Death multiple times.

Levantes walked slowly towards us and with each step he took I couldn't help but fear him. My heart sank as he grew closer and closer. No one moved except Levantes until Socrates came forward.

"All of you stay back." Socrates ordered softly as he stared at Levantes.

He then walked in front of us and stood in front of us almost as if he was afraid of Levantes and was waiting for him. Socrates then conjured a few barriers which surrounded all of us. The level of the barrier was beyond the level of the Classes.

"Erase." Levantes spoke softly and clearly and the barrier suddenly disappeared. Levantes then continued to walk towards us.

I couldn't see what happened but I saw a flash. A man was wielding a sword and had tried to attack Levantes however Levantes held the blade of the sword with his index finger and thumb.

The man had long white hair and seemed to be someone close to Socrates.

Levantes stared blankly at the white-haired man as the man smiled at Levantes. The man applied more pressure into the sword however it didn't seem to have any effect towards Levantes.

"Venasus." Levantes said softly. The man was then thrown into the distance.

Socrates then conjured a few balls which resembled small black holes. The balls were then thrown at Levantes at a speed I couldn't even see however they never reached Levantes. The balls seem to slow down with each centimetre they went closer to Levantes and soon it was like they had stopped.

Levantes then lifted his arm until his hands were pointing to Socrates.

"Return." He said softly and the miniature black holes were shot at Socrates at a speed Socrates could even react. Fortunately only one of the balls hit Socrates but I had a feeling it was intentional.

There was a hole in Socrates's stomach however it regenerated in a matter of seconds.

In the blink of an eye, the white-haired man appeared next to Levantes however he was then crushed into the ground by something I couldn't describe.

At this point, I didn't even think Socrates and the other man had any chance of even landing an attack on Levantes.

"LEVANTES! STOP!"

Levantes slowly turned his head in my direction. I felt overwhelmed by his presence alone.

I then felt it.

The magical pressure emitting from his body stopped my body from moving.

Socrates then charged towards Levantes. He materialised a dagger in his hands and was about to slice Levantes's neck.

"NO!" I yelled hoping that Socrates would listen and stop but he didn't.

The blade of the dagger touched Levantes's neck however it didn't even pierce Levantes's skin. The dagger shattered when it touched Levantes. The white-haired man then lunged towards Levantes with a sword in his hands. The blade was pointed at Levantes's stomach however it went through Levantes.

I couldn't explain what had happened. The sword went through Levantes's body as if it wasn't even there but I could see Levantes clearly.

Levantes then kicked the white-haired man in his ribs at a speed I couldn't even see. A large crack could be heard as the man yelled in pain.

It was clear as day. The white-haired man wasn't able to regenerate meaning Levantes had done something to stop his magic.

The girl who was apparently Levantes's servant then charged at Levantes.

Her name was Aesira and although she did seem cold at first, she soon spoke with me and we quickly became friends.

Aesira had a dagger in each hand as she charged towards him. She was faster than I could comprehend however Levantes held her head which stopped her. I watched as she struggled to get out of Levantes's grasp but whatever she did, she couldn't escape. The white-haired man and Socrates then charged towards Levantes with multiple weapons and other destructive things but Levantes erased all of it with just a single word. They were all then thrown into the distance leaving me alone with Levantes.

My heart sank as my eyes widened. Fear was written all over my face but I couldn't keep my composure. Levantes turned his head in my direction and started to walk towards me. I was frozen in fear and couldn't move. He was now only centimetres from my face.

"Who are you?" Levantes asked.

I stared back at him in confusion and fear.

Could he have forgotten who I am?

"Levantes, I'm Rena!" I cried in fear hoping he would remember me.

Suddenly I saw three people charging towards Levantes. It was Socrates, Aesira and the other guy. Levantes then held out his hand while still looking at me. All of them stopped mid-air. It was as if time was frozen for them.

"Rena?" Levantes repeated my name. "I don't know who you are."

"What do you mean?" I muttered silently. "Levantes, I helped you find out your element and class!"

Levantes then put his hand down and the others plummeted towards the ground.

"I still can't remember you."

"You don't remember me?" I said silently. I then remembered something. "I said I was going to help you recover your memories!"

"You will?"

"Yes! Yes I will!"

"Then can you answer my question?" Levantes asked. I pondered for a moment before answering.

"Yes?" I said reluctantly.

"Who's Laertes?"

"I…don't…know…"

"Oh." Levantes sighed. Levantes then turned around and pointed to the three people behind him. "Who are they?"

"The man with the long white hair and beard is your uncle, Socrates, the girl is Aesira, your servant and I don't know who the other man is." I replied. Levantes looked at them as if he was judging them.

The three of them then started floating towards Levantes. Levantes took a few steps forward and the three surrounded him. They were all in the air floating and didn't seem to have any control over themselves.

Levantes then turned his head to Socrates.

"Who are you?" He asked. Socrates then glared at Levantes but he couldn't do anything so he answered him.

"My name is Socrates and I am good friends with your aunt."

"My aunt?" Levantes said as he looked sideways at Socrates.

"Yes, your aunt, she is extremely powerful and intelligent and will be arriving shortly." Socrates said. He then looked towards me as if he was signalling something but I didn't understand.

"What's your name?" Levantes said as he looked towards the white-haired man.

"I'm Azreal." The man sighed.

So that's his name.

"Levantes." I turned my head to see behind me. It was a woman. She had dark purple hair that seemed to be brushed. Her hair matched her intimidating aura and her dark purple eyes which seemed to be infinitely deep like an abyss. She wore a purple dress embroidered with symbols that resembled card suits.

"Put them down." The woman said with a commanding voice.

"Are you supposed to be my aunt?" Levantes asked the woman.

"Are you insane?!" The woman yelled. "Have you forgotten who I am?"

"Yeah I have." Levantes replied without the slightest of emotions in his voice.

The woman seemed to be helpless and stayed silent for a moment.

"What would your mother think?" The woman asked Levantes. Levantes looked at her confused.

"My mother?"

"Yes your mother!"

"You're gonna need to say more than that to stop me because I don't even know who you're talking about." Levantes said. He didn't have the slightest of emotions on his poker face as he spoke. "Also they're the ones who attacked first, I merely defended myself."

"Just put them down and let's talk."

Levantes pondered for a moment and then released his magic. The three fell to the ground as Levantes teleported in from of the woman.

"Valentine Artrium Laurier, great-granddaughter of the first Archon King, what do you wish to talk about?" Levantes said. The woman stared at him in fear.

"You will recover your memories, Levantes."

"I know I will however not anytime in the near future." Levantes said. He didn't seem to be lying as if he knew he wouldn't.

"How do you know that?" I asked. The question slipped from my mouth. The woman and Levantes then turned their heads towards me.

"Rena, do you know about the cosmic structure of this world you live in?" Levantes asked. I stared at him confused as I tried to understand what he said.
