The Goddess and Caelum

—Tell me Caelum. Is it worth defending humans?

Ever since she arrived I knew something wasn't right. I had tried to bring up during the day what had happened to Viktor and Milos, because they told us all about the mana and qi, but they didn't tell me anything. What I wasn't expecting was that question.

—That's a question that for us to be your apostles we all have to answer, and it seems that after thousands of years you are still doubting.

For the first time I could see the Goddess nervous, she was pressing one hand against the other while she seemed to be thinking about something.

—Can I ask you a question?

—Do you need a pact?

—Hahahahahaha, no. —I'd better not ask her or she'll kill me. —Even if it doesn't seem like it, I've decided to trust you, so tell me, why did you start defending humans? According to the story you told me, at first, you were in favor of exterminating us.

There was a moment of silence before the Goddess answered me.

—It was a little before God made his solo move. I was on one of the walks I sometimes took on Earth to see how society was progressing and I met a man by the name of Henry. Not that he was a special man, but he had one thing that made him stand out from everyone else, his kindness. He showed me the good things that humanity could do, he taught me the meaning of altruism, of being helpful, he taught me the good in humanity. I spent a lot of time with him, and before I knew it I had fallen in love.

The Goddess stood still, catching her breath. As I listened to her, I couldn't believe my ears. I thought the Goddess was simply making us fight against God's minions for a game they had between the two of them, but it seems quite a bit more serious. Besides, The Goddess is showing me a very human side.

—I had fallen in love, but a Goddess and a man were not meant to be together. At the time, God and I, we had a rule not to create any more super humans, but I went to beg God to let me make one more, to let me make the man I loved someone I could be with forever, but he denied me. Henry knew I was not normal, so long together and not aging a hair was strange, but he never blamed me, he never said anything strange to me and it was when I was already on the verge of death that he told me:

"I am the luckiest man in the world. Thanks to you I knew true love, but I hope you will continue your immortality and live happily. I won't ask you to remember me, but may I ask you to never lose faith in humanity? Maybe there will be times when you doubt if you do the right thing, but give it a chance okay? "

The Goddess seemed to me to be smiling as she remembered her time with that man. For her to smile like that... I would have liked to have known that Henry, he seemed like a nice guy.

—That's why I've been defending humanity all this time, but tell me Caelum, is it worth it?

Another myth that falls, and I thought the Gods didn't have feelings, that they were superior beings to all that. I sighed as I looked at the darkness before us.

Was I really the right person to ask? Was I the person to answer?

—Ha, you don't ask me easy questions eh... I don't know how to answer that, but if you want I'll give you my answer, maybe it will help you, or maybe it will just give you more reasons to annihilate us all.

I looked sideways at the Goddess who seemed attentive to what I was telling her.

—In the short time I have lived I have had two wonderful parents, a friend who made me see that I can do things for others instead of myself, and those who I thought were my friends betrayed me, it is true, but not everything is black and white, there is always a motive behind the acts. Now thanks to you I have the possibility to be what I always wanted to be. What if it is worth defending humanity? You will know that when you try, and I'm not talking about fighting against God, I'm talking about fighting against humanity itself, against the hatred and envy of humanity. And now I have just become an idealist wanting something impossible, but good. People need a reason to do things, real or unreal, I now, even if you told me that you give me back my humanity I would still support you, because, although it seems to me an impossible goal, it is a goal worth fighting for.

Silence.

I don't know if what I have said will convince her. Now the nervous one of the two is me.

The Goddess still didn't say anything to me.

Then she sighed and turned to me.

—You still have to pass the tests, but I will let you see my true form.

Her true form? Wasn't it that I wasn't ready?

Then it rose a little off the ground and began to glow very brightly. I had to cover my eyes so I wouldn't be blinded, after a while the glow stopped. When I looked at it again I was amazed.

If the Goddess had a status window she would have a feature called charm to the max. Beautiful, attractive, brown hair and white skin. She was like a...

—Goddess.

—What? What do you think?

—You're the terror of humanity —I said, trying to keep my composure—. If you come down to Earth like that there is no mortal of any kind of sex capable of controlling their urges for you.

The Goddess laughed at my comment. But I was telling the truth, The Goddess was beautiful.

—You say that, but you hold yourself quite well.

I laughed.

—I'm sorry, but in front of the person I love, your beauty is tiny.

—Hahaha, now I want to know who Caelum, the iron heart, fell in love with.

—Hah, to meet her you'd have to be able to bring the dead back to life.

—I'm sorry.

—It's okay, it's been a few years. Besides, she warned me.

—How's that?

I sighed.

—A very long story. You don't need to know.

And I put on the best smile I could. Just then my phone started vibrating.

"Cam."

—Basma?

"Mason and Igor say come down to the ring, it's crowded today. Mason says we sure can make some big money today."

—HAHAHAHAHA, tell them I'll be right down.

"Yes, but don't be long."

And I hung up.

—Well, it looks like I have to go.

—Caelum, why?

I looked at her without understanding what she was saying.

—Why what?

-Nothing, go and earn money.

I was puzzled. But not knowing what to say I approached the elevator, before getting in I turned around and said a few last words to her.

—You know, I don't know why you hide your true form, but you are really beautiful.

When I got on the elevator I felt surprisingly good. It was as if the Goddess trusting me made me happy.

—Hah, even after everything my heart still belongs to you Eli.

On the rooftop, silently, The Goddess watched the elevator door through which Caelum had exited. For a moment when she saw him, when she heard him, she had thought she saw Henry.

—'m going crazy, but it looks like humanity will live on for many more years.

Daily chapter ongoing! I hope you like it and leave me some 'Power Stone'. Enjoy!
