Chapter 19: Few Clues

Under the night sky, Manhattan was dark and quiet. In the police headquarters' archives room, Maverick once again came here to search for new clues.

From Rick Frey, Maverick learned that the person who instructed him to do this was his superior, Paul Mark.

Since joining the Blood Head Gang, he had been receiving odd jobs and dirty work from Paul Mark because of his skillfulness and discretion. Consequently, Paul Mark began to seek him out more frequently, promising him promotions and advancements.

Maverick typed Paul Mark's name into the computer and waited for the screen to refresh with information and photos.

When the photo appeared on the screen, Maverick couldn't help but be stunned. The person in the photo was someone he had just seen not long ago.

The image displayed on the computer screen was none other than Paul Mark, the person who had taken a long time to open the door when Maverick was delivering pizza and had given him a generous tip.

Because it was the last delivery, far away, and he had knocked on the door for a long time before someone answered, all these unusual occurrences left a deep impression on him about this order.

When he returned to the shop, he also checked the delivery information but found that there was no such order. In the end, it was confirmed that the person who recorded the orders had accidentally written it down incorrectly.

Although the order was delivered incorrectly, he still got paid, and the actual customer also understood that their business was too busy, so this matter ended perfectly with a few pizza discount coupons.

This seemingly ordinary incident was not noteworthy before. If it weren't for the photo in front of him, Maverick probably wouldn't have actively remembered it later.

"So, was it because of this delivery order that led to the subsequent accident?" Connecting all the clues, Maverick also thought with a somewhat pale face.

He had never understood why such a disaster suddenly struck, why those people targeted them, and why they wanted to kill them.

Recalling the memory of delivering the meal, although Paul Mark's behavior seemed a bit strange, overall, there wasn't much of a problem. So, they must have thought he saw something or knew something, which is why they wanted to silence him.

At that time, Venom had not yet been released from his body's confinement, otherwise, it should have been able to sense what had happened in the house at that time.

"There's no use in speculating so much now. Once we find this Paul Mark, everything will become clear," Venom said, sensing Maverick's scattered thoughts.

Maverick nodded in response and then adjusted his breathing to continue looking at the information on the computer.

Compared to the previous Rick Frey, the information left by Paul Mark here appears to be much less, which should be the extent of his power as a small leader in the Blood Head Gang.

Seeing that the information left by Paul Mark was obviously not helpful, Maverick shifted his focus and began to search for the gang they were both in - the Blood Head Gang.

The Blood Head Gang evidently is a relatively special and secretive organization within the New York mafia, or the power they possess is not comparable to ordinary gangs.

There are only a few sentences about the Blood Head Gang in the database, which greatly disappointed Maverick.

"This is ridiculous. The police know so little about them. It seems they have done a lot of things that even the police don't know about, just like my accident," Maverick said, feeling frustrated.

Venom shook his head in disdain and added, "From what I know, these police are not only incompetent but also foolish."

"For the sake of studying and understanding humans, I have observed them for a while on Spider-Man. The conclusion I reached is that most of these guys are just a bunch of old bastards and punks who only know how to eat doughnuts and drink coffee," Venom continued.

Maverick pondered for a moment and then said coldly, "I guess there are probably many people in the government high-ups who are covering for the Blood Head Gang. What kind of gang organization is this? It's like a behemoth hidden in the shadows."

"Continuing to look won't yield any results. We might as well go home early. I'm starting to feel hungry," Venom suggested, licking his lips as he saw that the database didn't have the information they were looking for.

Not being able to eat Rick Frey's brain is indeed a regret. Thinking of that enticing aroma, Venom felt sorry. That person was really too timid, actually being scared to the point of losing control of his bladder and bowels. It's a pity for its delicacy.

Since they couldn't eat the brain, they had to settle for chocolate instead. Venom decided whether to go home later and eat a whole box, preferably with hazelnuts.

Upon hearing Venom's suggestion, Maverick also closed the computer with some disappointment and sighed, "This is quite unexpected and disappointing."

"Anyway, after we go back, we'll input his photo and facial details into the computer just like before, and let the program run to help us find him throughout the city. I don't believe that as a small leader of the Blood Head Gang, he can just stay at home forever."

"And since they planned that thing mainly to deal with me, now that I'm here safe and sound, they should also be gathering information and planning their next move," Maverick said to Venom while putting everything in the database back in place.

After tidying up, he leaped out of the window and merged into the deep night.

If they started using the software to find people, then they could only passively wait. After all, no one knew when they would be able to identify the real Paul Mark.

The fact that Rick Frey was found so quickly this time was purely a stroke of luck. How long such good luck could last was also up to fate.

While Maverick was on his way home, in the basement where Rick Frey was hiding, a shrill ringtone suddenly sounded from the pocket of the headless corpse.

His phone rang and vibrated incessantly until the blood seeping into his pocket blocked the speaker, silencing the ringing, leaving only the vibration.

After the phone called three times without anyone answering, the person on the other end seemed to realize that something was wrong and hung up while the ringing was still going on.

After the phone stopped ringing, the basement returned to its silent state. In the outskirts far from the city, Rick Frey's body might not be found for a while.

Maverick and Venom only cleaned up the traces related to them to ensure they wouldn't be traced. As for the remaining corpse and bloodstains, they had no intention of cleaning them up.

Let that damn scum turn into bones and dust under the gnawing and biting of maggots and flies. This was the fate he deserved.
