13 Chapter 13: Investigation

After discussing Venom's food supply issue, they began to plan how to seek revenge, which was the most important thing compared to everything else.

"Sigh~ I'm filled with anger but nowhere to vent it, not even a shadow of the killer," Maverick muttered, feeling frustrated and scratching his head.

Venom remained silent at Maverick's words, simply picking up a pencil from the desk and quickly sketching the face of a man on a blank sheet of paper.

"Who's this?" Maverick asked curiously, looking at the portrait drawn by Venom.

Putting down the pencil twirling in its tendrils, Venom blew away the pencil shavings on the paper and said, "This is the appearance of the driver I saw."

"Unfortunately, I could only find his appearance when your emotions were intense. So, I only have his appearance," Venom explained.

"Otherwise, analyzing the people you encountered in your previous life could quickly pinpoint the enemy."

Watching Venom's drawing skills, which were comparable to a printer, Maverick couldn't help but admire, "It seems like even if the pizza shop goes out of business, we can still become street artists."

"It's just a trivial skill," Venom said modestly, but you can still feel the pride oozing from his tone.

Looking at the portrait in his hand, Maverick spoke softly, "Now that we have a portrait, the next step is to track him down using it."

"But how can we confirm this person's identity? We can't just print it out and distribute it on the streets," he pondered.

Venom didn't have a good solution to this. Its current concern was only when it could have a feast of brains to eat. Having only one target wasn't enough.

'I hope this guy has lots and lots of accomplices so I can feast on many brains.' Venom thought to itself, getting excited at the prospect.

"Hehehe~" Venom chuckled, baring its teeth.

"Hey hey hey!" Maverick, seeing this, shook his head helplessly and patted Venom, saying, "I ask you a question and you ignore me. What are you thinking? Your laugh is terrifying."

"Oh, sorry, I got distracted," Venom quickly snapped out of it upon hearing his words, temporarily casting away the chaotic thoughts in its mind.

"Just now, I suggested we go to the police station," Maverick repeated his words again, "The police database should have information on many people, especially those with a criminal record."

"Because the policeman mentioned earlier was looking for an escaped driver, so I instinctively thought they should know what the driver looks like. But now that I think about it, that driver shouldn't be so careless. After all, the accident he caused was not ordinary at all."

"The police probably don't know his appearance and can only find out who the real driver of the truck is."

"Now that I think about it, that real driver is either using a fake identity or has already been silenced."

Venom also chimed in upon hearing this, saying, "But the killer doesn't know that I can obtain his real appearance."

"Moreover, someone capable of such acts must not be a novice. They surely have a criminal record, so there should be clues in the police database."

"That's right," Maverick nodded in agreement after Venom finished speaking.

Then he glanced outside at the thick night, turning back to Venom, "The timing is just right now. The police station in the dead of night should only have staff on duty."

Without hesitation, Maverick made his move. With a thought, Venom covered his entire body.

Then he opened the window and jumped out, weaving through the thick night.

To ensure the completeness of the database, Maverick went straight to the New York City Police Headquarters, located in Police Plaza in downtown Manhattan.

There weren't many people at the police station in the middle of the night, especially in the area of the database. Maverick only saw a few officers on duty occasionally patrolling with flashlights.

After figuring out the gaps in their patrol schedule, Maverick quietly clung to the wall like a gecko and climbed upwards.

The black combat suit had a natural advantage in the dark night. Unless you were close enough, there was basically no chance of anyone noticing a person hiding in the shadows of the building.

Maverick quickly arrived at the window of the database room. Inside, there were many large bookshelves holding numerous paper documents and files. There were also several computers near the front by the door, which likely stored a lot of data.

Maverick tried to push the glass, but found that the window was locked from the inside. So he extended his fingers and let the tendrils of Venom on his hand extend into tiny tentacles, then wriggled them through the window crack to unlock it from the inside.

After opening the window, Maverick lightly jumped in, trying not to make any noise.

Looking at the computers and paper files inside, Maverick decided to start with the computers. If he couldn't find the information he wanted on the computers, then he would search through the bookshelves.

"Tap! Tap! Tap! Tap! ~" As the sound of keyboard typing echoed, Maverick quickly hacked into the computer without needing a password.

Upon seeing a personnel file with a criminal record displayed inside, he rubbed his hands together with anticipation and clicked on it.

"Darn it! They search for people by name. How am I supposed to do this?" Maverick's face fell as he realized he only knew the killer's appearance.

Looking at the countless pages of data, Maverick sighed and rubbed his forehead in frustration. "Do I really have to go through each page with my eyes?"

After some thought, Maverick felt somewhat unwilling. He couldn't believe that the police database didn't have a facial recognition system. After all, the images captured by surveillance cameras wouldn't automatically display names.

With this in mind, he continued searching on the computer, but after a while, he still hadn't found anything.

"Really backward. Looks like I can develop some software similar to this and sell it to the police system. That way, I can make money and provide convenience for myself to access internal information in the future."

Maverick grumbled while simultaneously starting to develop the software. He decided to create a software capable of image retrieval.

Since time was pressing, he only needed the software to support this one-time use. With this in mind, he worked diligently for two hours before finishing.

"This should do it," Maverick said as he looked at the freshly developed software. He scanned the hand-drawn portrait and uploaded it to the computer.

"Whirr, whirr!" Running the program caused the computer's host to emit a loud noise, indicating that the police department's computers struggled with the operation.

Or perhaps it was more accurate to say that the computer development in this world was far from reaching the level Maverick was accustomed to in his previous life.
