19 Before Camp

Students can be seen writing in their notebooks while the teacher in the classroom is reading out loud to the class. One orange head was struggling to keep up with writing while a guy with a natural scowl on his face was fighting with himself not to fall asleep.

*Ringg

"Alright class, make sure to read the next 5 chapters since we will be having an assignment on the material we're reading and it will only include everything up to the next chapters I have told you." The teacher said to the class as the bell signaled the start of lunch.

Some started to leave to get food from the cafe and some opened up their bags in the classroom to open the lunches they had brought from home. I closed my books and reached for my bag next to me to grab the convenience store sandwich I bought earlier this morning. While doing so I noticed someone short walk up to me.

"Haruto wanna come with me to the cafe to get something to eat." Hinata asked and I nodded my head. We got up and I looked to my right and saw Kageyama sleeping with his eyes open.

""..."" Both of us were baffled to see him knocked out while sitting at his desk. I waved my hand in front of him and shook him but still no response.

"Should we just leave him.." Hinata asked. I thought for a moment and remembered that I left my volleyball in my locker.

"Let's go. After we buy your lunch we can go outside by the corridor and play volleyball with the ball I brought." After saying the last bit Kageyama's eyes snapped open and stared at us with eyes asking 'why didn't you wake me up earlier?'. I shouldn't have not been surprised as this guy only has volleyball on his mind which is similar to the midget next to me.

The three of us walked out of the classroom and went to the cafe and as we entered we were greeted with a large group of people.

"Will you be alright.. Are you sure you're not gonna get trampled by all those people?" I asked Hinata but he said that it was not a problem and we watched him run into the crowd of people.

"I think we should find a new middle since I don't think he will be coming back" Kageyama told me and I nodded my head and began to brainstorm who should replace him.

"What are you guys talking about?" We heard a voice behind us and jumped. We backed away quickly and saw both Tanaka and Nishinoya looking at us.

"Don't scare us like that.. Are you guys also trying to get food by going through that cluster of people." I sighed seeing that it was those two.

"Haha don't underestimate your senpais since we are very experienced in this scenario! Plus we're here for the big prize.. The limited time ultra jumbo sized yakisoba bread!" Tanaka yelled out with his chest raised high with Nishinoya also nodding his head. Seeing this Kageyama and I just agreed with them as we had no clue what they were talking about.

"ALRIGHT EVERYONE THE LIMITED TIME BREAD IS HERE!" the lady at the desk yelled out and everyone began to move very fast. Tanaka and Nishinoya ran in without saying anything as we watched them also get gobbled by the crowd.

"I think we should call the ambulance for Hinata since there is no way he is surviving all that." I said but my words were proven wrong as Hinata calmly walked out of the mass of people and was holding his sandwich which looked like the one Tanaka was talking about.

"Heyy guyss! They were selling this bread for so cheap I was lucky to get one!" Hinata came up to us with a smile on his face. We just stared at him and patted him on the shoulder welcoming him back from surviving that intense battlefield. We began to walk out while listening to the sounds of hungry students rushing the food stands.

"Tanaka, that bread is mine. I got it first!"

"Is your hand on it now? NO so it's mine!"

Tanaka and Nishinoya began arguing for the last piece of bread they were able to grab hold of. They were pulling on it and it slipped out of Tanaka's hands. Nishinoya dived down so fast like it was the match point of a game and our hitter just got blocked. He grabbed the bread but Tanaka was right on his tail. With the way they were diving they were able to see up the skirts of some girls that were walking by which earned them a slap on the cheek.

Hearing the shrieks of girls and people getting slapped behind me I began walking faster not wanting to see what was occurring in the hectic cafeteria and made our way to the corridor.

Walking home after practice I began to laugh remembering what Tanaka told the three of us what happened after we left the cafeteria which earned both him and Nishinoya a cold glare from Kiyoko our manager. I stared at the cherry blossoms by my place and entered my apartment. Walking up the stairs I was able to catch Mahiru waiting outside my door.

"Shiina, how long have you been waiting? I remember sending a message saying I would be a bit late right?" I quickly ran up to her to open the door.

"I wasn't waiting long, I just left my place a few minutes later than usual when I saw your text." She said to me as she handed me the bags she was carrying. I grabbed them and looked at her, feeling bad that she had to wait outside just for me to open the door. I placed the bags in the kitchen and went to my room to open a drawer to grab something.

"Here take this spare so you don't need to wait for me to open the door and you can just walk in." I held out a key in front of her. She saw this and began to refuse vigorously. I took her hand and placed the key in her palm while closing it.

"Just take it okay. I wouldn't want you to stand out for long even if it was just for a few minutes." I said to her in a serious voice. She stared at me and said in a soft voice.

"Are you sure you want to give this to your neighbor? What if I do something to your place?" She asked back.

"I'm not worried since you're not the type of person to do that. At most you would just want to clean my place instead. Unless.. You're planning to steal my laundry when I'm not here!?" I said in an exaggerated tone and backed away from her.

"Of course I wouldn't do that!!" Mahiru began denying loudly about my accusation with a blushed face.

"Then it's fine isn't it?" I smiled at her and laughed at her reaction. She pushed me out of the kitchen and told me to change. I returned to my room and wasn't able to see the small beautiful smile she had on her face.

"Thanks again for the dinner." I said to Mahiru while sitting down and giving her a cup of green tea while she also sat at the table. I remembered about my training camp and told her about it.

"So you will be gone for the majority of golden week due to your camp?" She asked me and I gave a sad nod. I wouldn't be able to eat her food while in camp and I don't know if I will survive without it. She gave a small laugh and said that I was exaggerating.

"Will you be doing anything for golden week? Like going out or visiting family?" I asked her and she shook her head.

"I will stay at home. Plus I never really went out with my family during golden week." She said in a cold and empty tone. When I heard this I remembered back when we cleaned my place she gave the same reaction whenever she mentions her family..

We sat in silence and I remembered seeing the cherry blossoms outside my apartment and it gave me an idea.

"If you're not busy would you want to go somewhere with me after my final day of camp?" I asked her and she stared at me.

"Are you asking me out on a date?" She said with a small smile.

"You can interpret it however you want. I just think it's a shame someone will be staying home the whole week instead of going out during the break." I said to her trying to hide the small redness on my face realizing I was basically asking her on a date. She saw this and gave a small chuckle.

"Where do you recommend going then?"

"Well the cherry blossoms should be in full bloom and some parks are open for viewing. So we can choose one and go to the park to view them." I said to her and she seemed to like the idea. I got up and sat beside her showing her my phone of the available places and we began to choose the location of our 'first date' together.
