11 THIRST

The helpers and bodyguards couldn't help but wonder what had happened to their master. His white hoodie was completely stained with what appeared to be coffee or tea. Kieran cursed under his breath, he was already having a bad day now this human had succeeded in ruining it. He ignored their greetings as he walked into the mansion.

"Send a maid up to my room," Kieran ordered, his voice holding anger.

"Yes, master."The bodyguard noticed his master's eyes were dark and they held a glint of hunger.

As if not wanting to waste more time on him, Kieran went upstairs.

The bodyguard beckoned unto a maid carrying a tray back to the kitchen.

"Go and clean the master's bedroom before he returns."

Cold fear spiraled through her. She looked around. "Are you talking to me?"

The mere mention of the master's bedroom sent shivers down the spines of the helpers.

The bodyguard glared at her and snapped. "Who else is in this room besides me and you? "

"Agnes cleaned the room yesterday." She stated. "Kindly get another person to clean the room, as you can see I'm busy with the dishes." The helper said and turned to leave but he stopped her.

"It's an order, your opinion is not needed. Before you were hired, you were informed about all your duties as a helper which includes cleaning the master's room. Get your cleaning tools and go clean that room." He snarled at her, startling her and she scurried away in fear to get her cleaning equipment.

The maid got the equipment and carried them upstairs. Every step brought her closer to the room. Her heart thumped hard against her chest. Ever since she started working here, she had noticed something. Every maid that had been sent up to this room to clean it never came back. No one dared to ask about their whereabouts for the fear of also disappearing.

Agnes, her best friend had gone up to clean the room yesterday and that was the last time she saw her. As she passed by the room yesterday, she heard muffled screams.

The maid placed her hand on her chest. "Calm down, everything will be fine. The master is not home, I'll hurriedly clean the room before he gets back." Choking down fear, she slowly turned the doorknob and pushed the door. The room was pitch-black.

The helpers were forbidden from turning on the lights while they cleaned. They were permitted to light the candlesticks that were placed on the dresser.

The helper silently prayed. She slowly stepped into the room leaving the door ajar. She dropped the cleaning equipment by the door. Reaching into the pocket of her apron, she found the matchbox. She proceeded to light the candlesticks.

"There's nothing to be scared of," She calmed herself down. She reached for the duster and began dusting the furniture. A shadow ran past her, and a strong wind blew out the candles.

When the lights went out, she was scared to her wits. She took a deep breath. "Calm down, it's just the wind." She picked up the matchbox and lit the candles again. She looked around, she was the only one in the room. "See, I'm just worried for nothing." She went back to cleaning.

She picked up the duster and continued cleaning the dresser. She saw a reflection in the mirror, and she slowly turned. The helper turned a deathly shade of white as her eyes met a pair of dark eyes. There stood Kieran, a wicked smile on his face.

The helper screamed in horror. She threw the duster and ran for the door and tried to open it. The door had been locked from the outside by the bodyguard.

Kieran laughed as she struggled to escape. With one jump, he was standing behind her. The helper turned stiff with fear as she felt his breath on her neck. She slowly turned to meet his thirst-filled eyes.

The helper screamed for help. Her hands were against his chest as she tried to push him away but his grip was firm. She felt his fangs sink into her skin. He sucked all her blood and he let go of her, her lifeless body fell to the ground with a light thud. He licked the blood on his lips. His fangs were receding, and his eyes which had been dark minutes ago were now red.

The door opened and two bodyguards stepped into the room and carried the lifeless body.
