THE BROKEN FOUR!
CHAPTER FORTY FOUR
"DON'T LOOK FOR ME RALPH! THIS LITTLE ONE WILLINGLY LEFT!! DO NOT COME LOOKING FOR ME!"
Ralph squeezed the paper in his palm and threw it on the floor. "Cover the area and I freaking want positive results" barked Ralph before shifting to his beast. His eyes blazed red in anger and the furs on his body stood on end. There was no way that piece of crap was from Karen!
"Hey girl, what are you doing under this weather?" asked a woman who was riding a lorry. The rain that had been pouring since mid day, rend the heavens all over the city and the suburbs that evening, like it could feel the emotions of four most powerful people around it.
Ralph was in the cave where he had last seen Karen as he watched the rain pour.
Karen stared through the window of the semi detached house Mrs Gwen - her saviour - brought her to. It was a shabby looking house and could not be compared to the mansion she formerly resided in but at least she could begin her life and her plans for revenge could finally kick start. The rain hit the window like a storm was raging and Mrs Gwen brought a steamy cup of tea to her. The handle of the cup was broken and she had to collect it from the bottom. She held it all the same as she drank the tea like she was drinking a bowl of soup. She was sure her palms would leave an imprint of this action of hers but who was she to complain…the woman was the only person kind enough to take her in at that odd hour of the night. Karen had pretended that she had lost her memory and Mrs Gwen decided to help the girl who was standing under that disastrous rain.
Stephan was back to the mansion and had gone to Karen's former room and had been laying on her bed. At least her scent was calming him from losing his mind. He had been careless and had lost the major thing that should matter to him. If only he knew!
Nara had called him that night and had pretended like some person had come to her house to harm her. He did not want to go but he had to…
He had two reasons why he wanted to go. The first was to save her and the second was to inform Nara that he had found his chosen mate and that she should put a stop to her seductive advancements. When he got to Nara's house, the house was in chaos like someone had broken in and he had rushed to her room, where he had a voice crying and there Nara was, hurdled to a corner with a blanket over her head.
"Nara!" called Stephan as he crouched by her side.
She peeled the blanket from her face and he saw her in a very pitiful state. Mascara was running down her eyes, her hair jutting out coarsely at different corners of her head and her eyes puffy.
He calmed her down after some minutes and she told him of how some wolves had come to her house to harass her. This was all a cooked story!
She pleaded with him to spend the night with her. He could not say 'no' to her after what she had told him that happened to her. He decided to stay but he also told her that he had found his mate and that the relationship he had put a stop to long before should actually remain that way.
She had congratulated him and brought a bottle of champagne for them to celebrate. He had asked if it was alright for her, seeing the state she was in and she had replied that she wanted to use it as a way to forget what had happened. She had gone to get Cabernet wine glasses and he had popped the champagne before pouring the content into the two wine glasses before him. After that bottle, he began to feel dizzy and he knew she had done something to him…she had placed something in the drink.
Thinking now, he knew that it wasn't in the drink but in the cup because she had also drank the wine. He had dozed off some seconds later and that must be when she had made that video. When he woke up, she was not by his side or around the house and he knew she had tricked him.
He even discovered that there was no attack on her house and everything was staged. He was furious!
He planned on telling his mate but when she came back from the hospital, she began to prepare for the charity event. Who knew this was what it would cost him?
He knew if Nara was at his front at that moment, there was not going to be anything to stop him from making her head roll at his feet. The bitch!
He remembered the fat tears that had fallen from his mate's face when he had remained in silence. The word "yes" at that moment weighed more than three letter words in his mouth.
[Knock! Knock!]
He wiped the stray tears on his face before sitting upright. The Alpha's beta must not be seen in tears. He must be strong, courageous, brave, determined but…but did that theory apply when it had to do with someone whose life was linked to yours. One whose path was eternally intertwined with yours?!
"You may come in!" said Stephan and in came Nanny Freya.
"What's good Nan?" asked Stephan as he tried to sound cheerful but failed woefully.
"I'm good but I don't think I can say that about you. You look like s**t!" said Nanny Freya.
"You should be warning me not to cuss but you wear the crown Nan!"
"Whatever! What are you doing in Kate's room? Taurus told me you were here!"
"Oh! Uhmm, I just came in to pick something. As she hasn't been around, there are some documents the Alpha needs and she is the only one that can provide it but now that she isn't around, I just thought maybe thought you know…maybe they could be here!" said Stephan.
"You should work on your lying game Stephan Stone" said Nanny Freya.
"What…what do you mean Nan?"
"I mean that I know that the reason you are here is not for some silly document. You came here for Kate, because she is your mate"
Stephan's eyes widened in shock, "she told you?"
"No she did not but I knew!"
"You knew? How? I, but I thought…"
"You thought you guys covered up well right?! We the night after you claimed her, I could smell her all over you, despite the heavy perfume she was on. I am not an old wolf for no reason you know. I decided to keep my mouth sealed about it when the both of you would not say a word"
"Oh Nan! I have freaking messed up and I don't know where to begin fixing it from or, if it can be fixed at all!" said Stephan.
"There is always a starting point. There is always something to do, I know you know why she isn't here or else you should be as antsy as the Alpha right now. What did you do?" asked Nanny Freya.
"I… I slept with Nara"
"You what?"
"I know, I should be beheaded for this but Nara had me deceived Nan"
"That scheming bastard!" cussed Nanny Freya.
Stephan narrated all that happened to Nanny Freya from when he slept with Nara and his meeting Kate in the hospital. He told Nanny Freya how she had ushered him out and the exact words that had left her mouth. He told Nan how he had no idea what to do now that she was no longer around him - he felt like a shell.
"Oh son! You really did Katey bad and I wonder if she would ever be able to come back to you. You see Kate has had a mate before but he had rejected her in the worst way to reject a mate, ruining her confidence and breaking her heart into tiny pieces. Till you came around Stephan. Before I found out about the both of you, she had told me that she had found a mate but she wouldn't tell me who. This exact thing you did courtesy of Nara was her fear" said Nanny Freya.
