NANNY FREYA
CHAPTER SIXTEEN
Standing before her were wolves higher than she had ever seen in her life. Even her cousin whom she had tried to fight and whose huge wolf had defeated her easily was no match to a normal warrior of Red Moon Pack. It seemed like the Moon Goddess specially selected this pack to rule over all other lycans and werewolves.
"Oh Selene!" she exclaimed as she looked at the wolves that stood taller than her. If one wanted to, it could easily take a swipe of her head and she is long forgotten but they all had their huge heads slightly bowed down.
'Was it because of me?' she thought.
She couldn't even tell who was the other as she looked at them but another sound distracted her. It sounded like rattling and fixing of bones at the same time, it sounded louder and terrifying and she turned around slowly and cautiously.
The hairs on her body stood as she looked at the creature before her - it was huger than the wolves that stood behind her and it was…it was majestic! It was covered in beautiful silver fur and the sun that shone glistened on it. As she continued to stare, totally starstruck and tongue tied, the silver furred creature which she knew was Ralph placed a huge paw forward. She took a step back also as it took a step towards her and the beast took no other step towards her. The beast sat on the floor of the field and looked at its scared mate before bowing its head.
Karen forced herself to calm her over-ly beating her heart and she feared for herself as she knew her heart was pumping more blood than usual. The beast remained that way until she ate a part of her fear and walked towards it with a glint of suspicion in her steps and her eyes. She got to it and the beast didn't make a move till she knelt by its side and placed a hand on its fur. The beast closed its eyes as it relished the touch of its mate in delight. Karen got bolder and glided her fingers along the soft fur of the beast and then to its head. Its head was almost covered with fur like that of a lion.
"Hermosa" complimented Karen. The beast looked up in wonder and Ralph was thinking if she understood Spanish. Karen understood its confusion and she said, "I asked Nanny Freya for the meaning since you say that to me almost all the time and she told me"
The beast nodded its head in understanding before tilting its huge head and running a wet wolfish tongue on Karen's face.
"Now that's disgusting," said Karen as she giggled.
Ralph stood up to its full height and Karen knew it was time for them to go. "Be safe" said Karen and the beast nodded.
The beast raised its head heavenward before giving a loud howl, the other wolves on the field followed suit and Karen hugged herself as it seemed like the ground was quaking. She thought that was going to be all but soon there were other howlings from wolves she couldn't see from the western and northern region of the environment - the werewolves had heard the howl of their Supreme Alpha and did that to show their support. Stephan and the other wolves began to race ahead and Ralph was about to follow suit when Karen said, "be safe! I'll be here, waiting!" The beast nodded its head before joining the others and Karen watched as they ran into the woods.
She stood there for a while before going into the mansion.
"Daughter!" called Nanny Freya as she saw Karen enter into the house with a sullen look.
"Do you miss him already?"
"What? Ralph? No! He is barely left and…how can,...No! Is there anything you want me to do?" said Karen amidst stuttering, denials and a reliable excuse.
"There isn't but I know something that could cheer you up?" said Nanny Freya.
"I don't need cheering up, because I am not down but what could that be?"
"A movie night with the ladies!"
"You want us to watch a movie?" asked Karen with uncertainty evident in her voice.
"Do you think I don't watch movies? Besides, I won't be the only one as Eva and Kate would also be present "
"Okay! I'm in. What time do we begin?"
"Six pm sharp. For now, since you say you aren't bored, you can go do you till then and remember that when you are coming, you should come in a comfy pyjamas"
"Alright Nanny Freya. Till 6pm then!" said Karen before she climbed up the stairs.
Nanny Freya decided to go tell Dr Kate that she had included her in a compulsory girls' night but as she was about to open the door, she heard sniffles and she knew that Kate had been crying but Nanny Freya knocked regardless.
"Who..who is there?" asked Dr Kate.
"It's Freya!"
"Oh Nanny Freya" said Dr Kate and Nanny Freya could hear shuffling of feet and knew that Dr Kate was coming to open the door. The door opened to reveal puffy eyes Dt Kate and Nanny Freya looked at her closely.
"What's wrong Nanny Freya?" asked Karen as she noticed the look Nanny Freya was giving her.
"You look wronged my daughter, may I come in?" asked Nanny Freya.
"Sure!"
Nanny Freya stepped into Dr Kate's bedroom. The white painted room looked bright, the sheets were also white and the floor was rugged white. The room truly radiated her bright personality but the owner of the room was in a contrasting mood.
"What's wrong my daughter?" asked Nanny Freya as she guided Dr Kate to her bed.
Dr Kate said nothing as she sat down and roughly blew the phlegm that threatened to flow freely from her nose, into a handkerchief.
"The last time you were like this, it was because of that fool that was mated to you. I am glad you have moved on from him but what happened this time around, my darling?"
Nanny Freya's words were supposed to make her see herself in a strong light for having been able to overcome such a part of her life but she was broken and her tears returned - more freely this time around.
"Carino" called Nanny Freya as she placed Dr Kate on her lap where Dr Kate cried the most. After some time of patience, petting and calming down, Dr Kate raised her head from Nanny Freya's lap and cleaned her eyes with the sleeve of her shirt.
"It seems my former mate is dead" blurted Dr Kate in a sore voice.
"Is that not somehow a good thing?" asked Nanny Freya.
"I guess, except that the Moon Goddess has mated me with someone else…again"
"Did he reject you?" asked Nanny Freya with her heart in her mouth as she feared Kate's reply.
"The contrary Nanny Freya… he says, he claims me"
"He accepts you?!! That is beautiful! This is excellent, awesome!" said Nanny Freya with a smile brighter than the sun.
"No!" exclaimed Kate as she stood up from the bed.
"Why no?" asked Nanny Freya as she was more puzzled.
"This person is beyond my league, within my reach and…and I am older than the person by a few years. Does that even make sense?!" lamented Kate.
"It does make sense. I don't see any reason why you are not excited by this and most importantly, who is this person that you hold in such high esteem?" asked Nanny Freya, arms akimbo.
"He is nobody!" answered Kate as turned her face away.
"Nobody huh! Nobody wouldn't make you this way child!"
"Let's leave that Nan! What's the reason you are here?" asked Kate.
"Trying to avoid this conversation I see. You know me, I'm not going to force you but when you get more confused, I'll be waiting"
Feeling terrible at herself for not being able to tell Nanny Freya who it is, Kate stretched forth her hands and clasped Nanny Freya's frail ones.
"It's alright dear. I came here to inform you that we are having a girls' night by 6pm."
"By we, you mean…"
"I mean, Eva, myself, yourself and the Supreme Luna"
"She agreed to this?"
"Yes she did and do not be a second late and yap about how your patients needed a medical counsel or something"
"Alright Nan, I promise!"
Nanny Freya went to the kitchen and began to bake some oatmeal raisin and gingerbread cookies for the mini occasion. She was done in an hour thirty minutes before she went to shower. She went to Eva's room and saw that the maids had prepared her and the both of them went to knock on Kate's room before Karen's room.
Nanny Freya was dressed in a green long nightie gown, Eva in pink and black girlish pyjamas, Kate was draped in long comfy trouser pyjamas and a white polo shirt. She wore her round eyeglasses and packed her hair in a bun atop her head. Karen was dressed in a baby blue short, a black polo shirt that was bigger than her and black and blue pair of stockings. She packed her long black hair at the back of her head and looked all set for the movie. Nanny Freya provided the four of them with matching flip flops and they all trotted to their allocated movie centre.
