HEARTBROKEN... AGAIN!

CHAPTER THIRTY EIGHT

The party was in full swing when they arrived. The mayor of Brooks Valley could be seen with his wife conversing with almost everyone room at the same time, the Leader of Human Rights in Brooks Valley, could be seen introducing his daughter to the men he deemed responsible - cash wise and brain wise - and he didn't care if the men he introduced his daughter to had dates or not.

After some light foods have been served and a lot of good and exotic wine have been drunk, the mayor's personal assistant, with the clinking of a tea spoon on a burgundy wine glass, attracted the attention of everyone in the room.

"Good day ladies and gentlemen. I want to thank you all for making out this moment from your precious time to partake in this year's charity event. I believe most of us present know what this charity is for but for those who have no idea, I would give a brief run down" said the mayor and a projection was displayed for all to see.

"As you can see, this is Brooks Valley Orphanage for children in and out of Brooks Valley and I can emphatically tell you that we have recorded the in take of children this past year than we have ever" continued the mayor.

"Exactly what he said last year!" whispered Stephan into Kate's year and Kate smiled.

"Just listen closely, he did still mention a whole lot of infrastructural things that need changing or development and I can tell you that he mentioned all of those last year" continued Stephan.

"I apologise if this isn't the kind of charity events you are used to but we do need sponsors, for our children and for the well being of the…the helpless. I know how much value you have over your hard earned money and that is why this year's charity event is going to be different as something new has been added.

Some exotic and exceptional paintings have been freely donated this year by some top artists to this town of ours and I did like these to be sold. In exchange for your support, you get a lovely painting. How amazing that is?!" asked the mayor as he looked greedily at the crowd.

These types of human get-togethers were only put in place so that rivals could flaunt their wealth and either get more fake friends or more real enemies. Whichever was the case, Supreme Alpha Ralph was bent at bringing recognition to himself at all cost. He was already widely known but he was always the underground sort of participator as he acted like an average human because if he had flaunted his wealth years earlier, his source would have been questioned.

As the mayor was about to continue, the lights were turned off and the spotlight was on the mayor and the paintings.

"We would be starting with this beautiful painting and drawing here. If you are a deep admirer of art you would see how the artist was able to merge the landscape of the earth, then the ocean and the heavens. What could beat this beauty?!"

"Why is the mayor doing the auctioning himself?" asked Karen to Ralph.

"I guess he feels no one would be able to communicate the materials as efficiently as he would. He is just after our pockets!" responded Ralph.

"And you are after their..?" asked Karen.

"What do you think? I am after the hearts of humans. For centuries, we have not been able to have a peaceful and complete understanding with those that know of our existence. I'm trying to take a very gradual approach my love "

"The painting is going for 1,000,000 jewels," announced the mayor.

"2 million" called a man from the western part of the room. The man's name is Yewsky Sting, the owner of the third largest jewellery making company in the country

"2 million, Mr Yewsky!"

"4 million" called an overdressed woman who was clad in too much jewelries than needed"

"Wannabe!" said Karen and Kate simultaneously and they smiled at each other while their mates shook their heads saying, "ladies".

"4 million Ms Rakshan"

"20 million" said a man with a navy blue mask and the eyes of everyone in the room were immediately directioned to the man and the spotlight was placed on him.

"Now that bar is definitely higher. That is an automatic switch up. Is this the game changer…20 million…20 million going…20 mill…" screamed the mayor and the man with the navy blue mask bore a sly smile as with the woman by his side but their smiles soon fell, when from the crowd, a card was raised and the person with the card said, "100 million jewels!"

This person was Beta Stephan as directed by Alpha Ralph. The spotlight immediately moved from the navy blue mask man to the quartet on black masks.

"Now, that's insane…crazy switch right there… 100 million jewels…100 million jewels going, 100 million jewels gone. This painting goes to Mr Ralph Hernandez" said the mayor too excitedly and there was nonchalant and hateful applauses.

After the auctioning of some other paintings, the lights were turned back on and Kate and Karen excused themselves as they headed to the restroom to ease themselves and see if their looks were a little out of place.

When they were done and about to leave, two girls suddenly came to face Kate.

"Can I help you Nara?" she asked them as she raked her eyes over their sultry and unappetizing looks.

"Nope, we are the ones to help you!" said Minna.

Kate already knew what this was about so she asked Karen to go on. Karen refused but Kate lied that Alpha Ralph just asked of her, through the mind link. Knowing the kind of person Ralph is, he could come in and create a scene over nothing so Karen had to go but she told herself that if she didn't see Kate soonest, those two legged girls that looked everything like trouble were going to get something beyond them.

"Are you sure you are alright?" asked Karen as she faced Kate, completely disregarding Minna and partner.

"Go on! Supreme Alpha just threatened to come here now…please!"

"Alright but I'll be back" said Kate as she gave the girls a warning once over before she walked away.

The girls said nothing to Karen as they had seen her with the Supreme Alpha. It would be wrong to disrespect someone that was with them even if the person had no ranking or position.

Kate knew Nara as Stephan's one time fuck buddy and she knew Minna came to her because she had seen her and Beta Stephan together.

"What do you want Nara?" asked Kate as she folded her hands before her.

"You have got some attitude Doctor. I think you must be feeling like some big shot now that the Supreme Beta brought you as his date. Oh poor advanced doctor…you are too old for our Beta and even if that was not the case, he doesn't want you"

"I don't have time for little kids like you and shouldn't you be in high school understanding the bearings of your life other than trying to bitch talk about someone who has already got her life together" said Kate and she tried to walk past them but they stood in her way…again!

"Look at this!" said Nara and it was a video of her and Stephan - they were wildly making out.

Kate swallowed as she looked at the video, her heart caved in but she thought to herself that it must be an old video.

"Yeah Nara, everyone knows you guys were fuck buddies in the past. Move out of my way…Now!"

"I would move if only yesterday can also be categorized as this 'past' you make mention of"

"What are you trying to say?" asked Kate with a slightly quivering voice, very different from the authoritative voice she used some seconds ago.

"If you still doubt me, weren't these the clothes he was putting on yesterday?' asked Minna.

Those were the exact clothes Ralph was putting on yesterday. She remembered him trying to flirt with her in that brown flannel.

"This whole thing is none of my business!" said Kate before pushing Nara to the side. She ran out of the restroom as fast as her legs could carry her. Tears were spilling from her eyes as she ran out from the party hall. She hailed a cab that took her to a hotel. She could not afford to go back to the mansion and face Stephan.

How did she get herself in such a mess? Once again,she was left heart broken. Not by random wolves or humans but her mated lycan. Her life is just freaking perfect and in a state of absolute bliss!
