Chapter 19: The Fight Next Door

“You can’t be serious!” Dana’s voice rang out loud and clear from Bennett’s house.

Stella could hear her as if she’d been no further than down the stairs, shouting from her own kitchen.

They were fighting. Bennett Orloff, the shifter, and his second in command. In the human world, his personal assistant. The lanky and gorgeous young woman with a terrifying personality.

Another loud crash echoed through Stella’s house. Reverberated through her chest like a jackhammer.

The whole neighborhood must hear them. If they kept it up. They were only going to draw more attention to themselves.

“You know she’s condemned to death, Bennett.” Again, Dana’s voice.

A tremor of fear ticked down Stella’s spine. She sat up in bed, tucked an unruly curl behind her ear. Strained against the wall, as if it could help her eavesdrop on the shouting match next door.

Clearly Dana meant her. Her life was condemned. To death.
