CHAPTER 5

KNOX

"This cannot be happening" I gripped my hair tightly as I paced the meeting office thinking of a solution.

I didn't know what to do and who to ask help from and I turned to the only people I could trust ; my Beta and Gamma.

" Alpha, you have been pacing for a while mumbling to yourself… What is the issue at hand?!" My Beta inquired.

" Yes Alpha, are the scientists back??.. Is that the problem?" My Gamma chirped a question in.

" Whatever is spoken here is spoken with an oath of secrecy!!. It shall not leave this room and if I find out either of you spoke of it again outside this room , it would not end well for you!!.. Am I making myself clear?!!". I knew I should not be speaking to ranked men in such a manner as they were my only confidants and friends but this was a matter of utmost importance.

" Yes Alpha " They both replied.

Then I began my tale of what the doctor told and showed me.

The doctor had requested my audience to discuss the blood work of one of the survivors". I didn't want to let their know of my mate just yet

" The result of the test is like no other. The result shows the presence of another DNA apart from the two DNA we are familiar with. It turns out the scientists were experimenting with more than wolves , they were also in possession of vampire blood and have been combining it with the wolves DNA to create a type of hybrid.

" That's impossible!! The vampires have been in hiding for a long time that it is feared they are long extinct" My Beta said

" That was my thought exactly but there's no mistaking it"

" Alpha! If what you say is true then we have a very big problem on our hands "

" I am quite aware of that but the good news is that the vampire DNA lays dormant for now . The bad news is that is could be awoken at any given time "

" Alpha if it gets out that we have a possible hybrid in our possession not only would it be captured immediately by the elders it would also killed with the fear of it posing as a threat to our existence "

" It wouldn't get out as one us in this room and the doctor who carried out the test is aware!.. Or do I have to be worried about you running your mouth" My gaze was piercing and intimidating.

" No Alpha!"

" Good.. then we have nothing to worry about for now"

" What do you propose we do Alpha?" My Gamma asked me

I stood thinking until I attempted at a solution

" Find a way to get in touch with the vampires… For the scientists to have had their blood sample then they are not as hidden as we were made to believe" I commanded my Beta

" we have not had any reason to seek them out before but this is a matter of urgency and I am sure they would as well by amazed by our discovery"

" Monitor the survivors for anyone showing signs of blood thirst or hunger .. This should be done with the utmost care" This task I gave to my Gamma

" Are you suggesting there might be more than one "

" That is a possibility but just to be on a more safe side , keep a close watch"

"That brings this meeting to a close " I concluded. By now it was evening and I wanted nothing more than to check up on my little mate and rest my head after the day's stress .

" When do we meet this our hybrid of a Luna " My Beta said with a wide smile .

" You knew all along she was my mate " I asked shocked but relieved

" Of course I knew.. ever since you almost snapped my neck for breathing the same air with her when she was unconscious. I saw how you looked at her and how it gutted you to see her suffering".

" You knew as well" I turned to my Gamma

" Your beta here couldn't keep his mouth shut and squealed to me like a little girl" he replied

" I am sorry for keeping it from you guys " I apologized.

" Nonsense!.. we understand your situation Alpha … how is she?"

"She is getting better and stronger than anyone I know.. she is like a new discovery and I get drawn to her the more I look at her. Her beauty is beyond what I could imagine and I cannot wait to start a live with her" I didn't know I spoke with a wide smile on my face and a twinkle in my eyes .

" Unfortunately her wolf is almost non-existent due to the extent of the experiments carried on her but I keep living with hope that we would make it work"

" That sad to hear but when can we meet her." My Beta was bouncing with excitement to finally meet his Luna

" It wouldn't be anytime soon as I want her to fully recover and she is quite weary of the male gender.. I assume the fear comes as a result of the scientists being all male but once she is healed and ready to face the outside world be rest assured you would surely meet her" I vowed to them.

" Alpha if I may, I could ask Jane if she could visit your mate and keep her company" My Gamma asked

" Yes please do so!.. that would help her" Jane was the mate of my Gamma and she was a timid little thing who only spoke up when it came to matters of her mate. She would be a perfect company for my mate and I knew they would get along quite well.

" We cannot wait to meet her and we wish you both the best " they both greeted me with a friendly pat on the back and smiles on their face as they left the office.

I sighed as I made my way to the infirmary all the way to my mate's room. She was still asleep with her whimpering and tossing on the bed. I made my way to the chair and gently took her hand , the whimpering and tossing stopped as she took a peaceful breathe and continued sleeping.

I didn't know when I drifted off with my head on the bed but all I knew was that I hadn't slept that well in a while.
