Mate

Chapter One 

Niko Pov 

The rogues that have been trying to enter our territory have finally been dealt with it, and I for one couldn't be happier about it, the beta Jay is also ecstatic about it as he fists pumps the air letting out a winning howl making us all laugh.  The others are heading back to the pack house while I have stayed behind, I wanted time to reflect over things alone, this was my first challenge since dad stepped down naming me Alpha which of course a few others weren't happy about it due to my single status and my 'womanizing ways' but nothing will prevent me from being the best damned Alpha I can be. As I stroll through the wooded area, I get the scent of something, something innocent and sweet. Changing my direction, I head in the direction of the scent and although I am being silent  

"Who's there?" a soft, sad-sounding voice asks, how on earth did they know I was here 

"I could ask you the same question since you are in my territory" I voice back louder than I needed to, but after all this could be a trap. 

"I am very sorry- for the intrusion, I will vacate." The voice sounds back and I walk closer to where the voice came from "Please, I promise, I am leaving." they promise but it's too late I reach behind the tree grabbing an arm and pulling them from behind the tree, a gasp escapes my lips as I take in the person before me. 

"What's your name?" I demand staring at her, at this moment I am fighting a battle with my wolf Zeke as he chants "Mate" over and over again 

"Uh- Keira" she doesn't even sound sure of her own name and my lips tug up into a smirk 

"Are you sure about that, Keira?" Her name sounds like heaven rolling off my tongue and she nods very slightly looking at the ground, I take a minute to take in her appearance it's then I notice the claw and bite marks on her body along with the purple marks around her wrist and her long blonde hair is dishevelled and coated in blood, my fists clench and I can feel my eyes darkening, my inner wolf still howling 'Mate' jeez 'Alright settle down, I get it but I can't say anything yet' he growls 'MATE!' I put my walls up the last thing I need is to scare her away.  

"Keira, what are you doing out here?" 

"A spot of fucking gardening, what does it fucking look like." Holy shit, I didn't expect that but now I want to punish her for talking back like that, I raise my hands while a smirk plays on my lips  

"Well, that gardening seems to have treated you badly, look Keira, I know you know what I am just like I know what you are. What happened?" I watch as she seems to be having an internal battle with either her wolf or herself, I look over the large white top she wears which is covered in blood with scratches all over it basically it doesn't hide anything of her perfect body. 

"We got ambushed as we slept, we were taken somewhere- I um-" she stops I can tell something extreme happened "I got forced to watch as they killed- my parents- and my um brother" she stares down at the ground suddenly I get a mind link  

"Where are you, Alpha?" Jay asks 

"Busy, I need you and Amanda to get the room next to mine set up, I'll explain soon" 

"Sure thing, Alpha. Is everything alright?" 

"No, just make sure it is set up, and ask Amanda to put some clothes and girly shit in there. Oh, and call everyone into the meeting room in fifteen minutes, make sure everyone is there and no one can see outside." I turn to face Keira and I know I need to respond to her 

"I am sorry, Keira. Do you have any other family?" I instantly regret asking when I see her face pale 

"My grandmother- I didn't know if any of them would follow me so I didn't go to her." 

"Okay, Look I am Alpha Niko leader of The Blue Moon pack, I have a pack house not far from here, I would like it if you would come back with me, I can promise your safety and we can get you cleaned up and fed, it looks like you haven't eaten in weeks." I watch her eyes shoot up to mine as if in recognition and it makes me a little uneasy 

"My Grandmother Anne always told me to seek out The Blue Moon pack if we were in trouble, my dad Alpha Issaac also told me the same thing" the name Alpha Issaac knocks the wind out of me, this is going to be an awful conversation to have with dad when I get back. 

"So, you know you will be safe with us, right?" she nods and I can't help but stare into those gorgeous grey eyes "Let's head back to the house, and get you sorted then we can call your grandmother." she nods and tries to take a step but her body is clearly weak from lack of food, I step forward grabbing her just before she collapses picking her up bridal style, I start back to the house quickly mind linking with Jay 

"Is everyone in the meeting room?" 

"Yes, Alpha. Also, no access to see anything outside." 

"Thanks, can you get Amanda to meet me in the bedroom you guys got ready and make sure she brings some bottles of water" 

"Consider it done, Alpha" Keira feels so light, too light, we will find the people who done this, dad is going to be furious. As I near the house Kieras eyes close I kick the door open, taking large strides through the foyer and up the stairs straight down the hall into the room where Amanda stands and her mouth drops open as I kick the door shut and put Keira onto the large queen-sized bed. 

"What the fuck, Alpha Niko?" 

"Look, long story short this is Keira, I found her in the woods she has been held captive along with her family who have been killed, her dad was Alpha Issaac" at that Amanda slaps her hand over her mouth and I give her a nod "She hasn't eaten and I am guessing she had nothing to drink, she is weak and lost consciousness as we approached here" Amanda nods and opens a bottle of water while I try and sit Keira up so we can at least get her to drink "Get a straw, Amanda" I command and she nods quickly dashing from the room. 

"I will be down soon, get my father to come up here now!" I mind link Jay who agrees and within half of a minute my dad Eric enters, I slide a blanket over Keira's body as the last thing I want is for her to wake up and see people staring at her. I watch as dad's eyes study her face and I see the fear in his eyes as he turns to glare at me. 

"Where the fuck is Alpha Issaac?" 

"Dad, I am sorry" I shake my head and he know what I mean I watch the emotion in his eyes 

"What about Luna Kath, Beta James and Anne?" he asks his voice hopeful 

"Anne is fine as far as I am aware, but the others-" I shake my head just as Amanda enters and she offers her condolences to my dad before handing me the straw, picking up the water I place the straw in it while Amanda sits at the other side of Keira trying to wake her up, suddenly her eyes open and she looks around 

"Hey Keira, your safe. This is my dad Eric, and this is one of our pack Amanda, can you try and have a drink for me, please?" she looks at Amanda and they smile at each other, then she glances at my dad and recognition covers her face but she smiles at my dad who smiles back at her warmly, wow my dad rarely smiles like that. I hold the bottle of water and she takes the straw in between her lips  

"Son, what is it?" my dad mind links 

"Mate" I answer him not taking my eyes off her but I hear dad let out a gasp.
