Eight years

Devin's heart was filled with joy when he tasted her sweet lips once again. He had waited patiently for this moment that he would catch the moon for her.

However, the happiness he had felt suddenly vanished when Isabelle slapped him. It was the sweetest and most painful slap he had experienced. Devin gulped countless times as he took steps backward away from her.

It was embarrassing. How could he dare to kiss the woman he had never seen in the past eight years? He has no right to win her back heart easily. Devin was frustrated when he realized his aggressive actions.

All this time, nothing changed about him. He was still the young alpha who put a scar into a lonely vampire's heart before.

Devin caressed his temple and took a heavy breath. He didn't know how to explain what he did as he was only carried away by his emotions. The truth was he missed Isabelle every single day. There was no time he didn't utter her name as he was hoping that she would come back sooner or later.

Months turned years, yet Isabelle had never come back for him. It was one of the reasons why he agreed to disguise as a human being; to find the woman who had captured his heart for the first time.

In the opposite direction, Isabelle rubbed her scalp in amusement. She thought no one had ever kissed her, but the truth, Devin was the first in everything. Devin was the only man who had kissed, touched, and owned her that night.

If only she could remember her past, she would have been the happiest vampire in the universe. She forced herself to act normally. But she couldn't get rid of his soft, thin lips.

Isabelle didn't think of a better alibi. She was sweating and it seemed unusual. Her heart was filled with happiness and the smile on her lips was too sweet like sugar.

Inside of her soul, she recognized his touch, his presence, and his fragrance. However, Professor Gretta manipulated everything about Isabelle. She took away the memories in her head to be her dead daughter.

Only one thing that left untouched—true love.

Suddenly, Devin turned around and looked her way. She was staring at nowhere when he said, "Look, I'm sorry! I didn't mean to—"

Isabelle didn't either want to make stories or dig up everything about his life. But to obtain peace of mind, she quickly faced and stopped him from talking. Her index finger was on his lips catching his guard down.

For a second, she courageously looked into his eyes. Reading what was inside of his mind.

"Stay still," she commanded. "I need to confirm something," Isabelle told him when he tried to make a move.

She couldn't sleep the whole night if she won't get confirmation from his eyes. Isabelle knew herself so much that it was easy to remember someone's heartbeat than his name. If she would listen to Devin's heartbeat, a greater chance to recall her past.

For eight long years, he had watched how humans lived in the modern days. Driving luxurious cars, expensive clothes and coats, breathtaking condominiums, and even a man's attitude and basic characteristics.

Devin decided to turn his back on Isabelle. His life turned upside down since then and even with how hard he searched for reasons, he always ended up missing the lonely vampire who had suddenly appeared out of nowhere.

Through the incident earlier, he had finally grabbed the chance to enter Isabelle's peaceful life. He couldn't believe she had amnesia all through the years. He thought she forgot him and was happy with someone else.

But it turned out the other way around. His heart was filled with joy but he must work hard until the very end. This time around, Devin Mondragon would do everything to win her heart again.

"I thought you had someone else in this beautiful house," Devin whispered after he looked around. He gasped and bowed his head for a moment when an awful memory flashed back into his mind.

Eight years ago…

The sky was calm and blue as the mesmerizing ocean. The sunlight shone brightly as what it used to be from the very beginning. On the branches of the trees, birds chirped quietly as they admired nature's beauty.

Other wild animals in the forest roamed within the place and looked for prey. It was one of the beautiful days that a creature hoped for.

But inside of a simple hut, there was a lonely and brokenhearted alpha. His glinting eyes were unhappy the moment he realized that she has gone.

He thought it was only a nightmare as he blinked his eyes countless times, yet nothing had changed. Alpha was left by a vampire who slept next to him until midnight.

Devin Mondragon never imagined that he would miss her. Every day he hoped Isabelle would show up in front of him and come back into his arms again. Touch and savor every second but there was no good news for her.

He then blamed himself for what happened. He became aloof from his friends and another female werewolf who tried to win his heart.

As fortunate as it was, Devin didn't fall to their knees. Every time he looked into their eyes; he could only remember Isabelle's sparkling eyes. He was seeing things and face that wasn't there in front of him.

"Are you going to waste your life after she left you?" His mother asked him.

"There's no reason to be happy if I can't marry the woman that I love!"

Devin thought his mother was one of his enemies. Everyone presumed that loving a vampire would only cause troubles that no one had ever seen before.

But Bella Mondragon wanted to ease the pain in her son's heart. She knew how it felt and she didn't want Devin to be miserable like another creature she'd met. Once and for all, she had decided to choose Devin's happiness over her husband's selfish ambitions.
