Chapter 4

It's been two weeks since my arrival to this town. And so far, nothing interesting has happened. Other than me encountering two werewolves, tripping and twisting my ankle and them taking me to their pack house, nothing happened. Oh, but I did find that injured women in the park on my way home from the wolves' house. I think that's the only thing interesting. And the woman, she stays with us. Even though it's been two weeks, she still isn't completely conscious. She slips in and out of consciousness, even though her wounds are now almost healed. And even though I know nothing about her besides her name, I feel like I've known her for centuries. I mean, for heaven's sake, we've barely spoken two words to each other because of her condition. But I just feel this connection towards her. Like, we've been separated for far too long. That feeling is indescribable.

Also, I still haven't figured out the rest of the riddle. And that other email? It's been bugging me to no ends. Whoever this person is, obviously knows everything about me.

And, I also haven't seen those two wolves at school. Elijah and Colton. I know they go to our school because I've heard people talking about them. The two bad boys of Black Forest High.

Right now, I'm in English class. The last class for the day. The teacher, Mr. Moore, didn't show up today, so a substitute came. He's not doing anything other than sitting on the teacher's desk and reading. He introduce himself as Mr. Hood and told us to do whatever as long as we didn't create much noise. There wasn't much noise alright. That's because all the girls in class were busy drooling over him and the guys, they were cursing him for stealing all the girls' attention. All except me.

He's sooo .... Came Sue's text. I ignored it, rolling my eyes.

Yes, I admit, he's young and handsome. Probably in his early twenties. But he's older than me. And even if he is hot, I don't bother to care.

I guess Sue was my friend now. Even though she forced this friendship on me and it is usually always her who is making the effort in this friendship, I do enjoy her presence. She's so lively and energetic. And I'm not. Not as much as her at least. But she's not bad. So I tolerate her and give her the much needed attention she asks of me. It's not like I have anything to loose.

"Psst...Rose."She whispered. But I ignored her. I was trying to give my attention to the book I was currently reading, even though I've read it like a billion times. Hush Hush. My most favorite book of all time.

"Rose!" She poked my side this time.

" How many times do I have to tell you Suzan. Do not Touch me. Is that too hard to understand?" I hissed back at her.

She looked at me sheepishly,"Sorry.."

I rolled my eyes at her not so subtly, "Whatever is it that you wanted?"

"Nothing. I just wanted to get your attention." She said sheepishly again.

"Reallyy..?" I drawled.

"Yeah." She cleared her throat awkwardly, squirming in her seat,"Can you please stop looking at me like that?"

"Why? I asked, as I stared at her putting my elbow on the desk and resting my head on my palm, "I thought you wanted my attention? Now you have it. So be happy because not many people are lucky enough to get my undivided attention."

She cleared her throat again, still uncomfortable,"I just wanted to tell you that the guys showed up today."

"Who?" I asked raising my eyebrow in a very lazy manner.

"You know, Elijah and Colton. I thought you'd wanna know since you asked about them that day." She said, still not looking at me.

"So? Just because I asked about them doesn't mean I'm interested. I only asked because everyone else was talking about them. That's it." I deadpanned.

"O-Okay. I-I was just saying." She stuttered.

"Are you uncomfortable with me staring at you, Suzan?" I smirked leaning in closer towards her.

"N-No."

"Then why are you stuttering?"

"I'm Not." She said taking a deep breath just as the bell rung, signaling the end of the day.

"Let's go Suzan." I said putting my things in my backpack and slung it over my shoulder.

"You coming?" I asked the girl who was still squirming in her seat.

"Yeah." She said softly as she got up and followed me out the room.

~~~~
"You're taking way too long Suzan." I stated examining my nails as I leaned against the locker next to Suszan's with my left leg propped up on it.
"Yeah, just a second." She mumbled with her head buried inside the locker. "Don't you need to take anything from your locker?"
"Nope. " I said popping the 'p'. "I got all I need."
From the corner of my eye, I saw everyone in the hallway freeze in their places and cease their conversations.
"What's with the silence?" Suzan asked shutting her locker and turning towards me.
I shrugged,"I don't know."
Her mouth dropped open in awe and adoration at something behind me. Probably someone.
If my guess is correct....then it's probably them. I mean, in the time I've been here, I've heard everyone talk about them like royalty. And if your'e in the presence of someone royal, then your reaction will be exactly as that of my peers.
But, of coarse, I didn't turn and stare like the rest of these fools. I just stared at my nails, bored out of my mind.
Somebody cleared their throat from a few feet behind me and life was restored to the hallway.
Suzan too, cleared her throat, "I can't believe you waited for me today. Usually, you just leave without even a glance in my direction."
I shrugged,"I just thought, since you're putting so much effort to be my friend, then maybe I too should give you just a little of my attention."
"Aren't you just thoughtful." She replied sarcastically as we started to walk towards the exit which wasn't far from sue's locker.
I smiled cheekily ," I know. I just think too much about you to leave you behind. Besides, you are my only friend here."
"I know." She said as she put a hand over my shoulder but removed it as soon as she saw my deadly glare.
"Good girl." I said patting her arm lightly."Now, let's go home."
~~~~~~~

I muttered profanities under my breath at Suzan because of whom I had to come back inside.

She's the reason I forgot my biology homework. I never usually forget anything, my mind is probably not in one place today. It never is since I got that email.

I got my book from my locker which is on the other side of the school. I was stuffing it in my backpack as I made my way towards the exit, not looking where I was going, which resulted in me bumping into something hard.

I squealed as I fell backwards and on my but.

I groaned in pain and looked up to see Colton hovering over me.

I gave him the most politest smile I could muster, "Hi."

"Hey." He replied in a deep and monotone voice.

"I'm sorry. I wasn't looking where I was going." I replied in a very small voice as I got up on my feet and dusted myself.

"Whatever." He muttered rolling his eyes as he bumped my shoulder walking away.

"Rude." I muttered rubbing the place where he hit me.

I sighed as I bent to pick my fallen things. As I gathered my stuff and got up, I saw an unfamiliar piece of paper. It did not belong to me.

"Hey I think you forgot something...." but Colton was long gone, so I picked up the chit.

Usually I'm not one to pry but I had a deep gut feeling that I should open it. And I did.

It amuses me how hard you try, little thief. But don't worry, you are no closer to the real truth than I was.

I'm always ten steps ahead.

Clearly, it didn't belong to Colton either.

It was meant for me.
