2 The Return

At the end of the forest in a startling posh area of the Northwich City was located the house of Ryle Engelson. Spread in the middle of the hundreds of acres of high-security land it was the most expensive piece of property in the city.

As the car reached the front, the automatic gates opened. The car entered the long road that was covered with long trees on both sides. After ten minutes of driving, the inner buildings finally started to come into view. The car stopped near a two-story building on which medical care was written in big letters.

Ryle moved out of the car with the little girl in his arms and ran inside the medical care building.

"Where is Murray? Call him now," Ryle yelled at the first nurse he saw and the woman's eyes widened for a second seeing him there before she hurriedly ran inside to fetch the said doctor.

"Young master, what happened?" The middle-aged doctor said in a hurry as he came out of his cabin and met them in the lobby.

"She got hit by my car," Ryle explained while another nurse brought the stretcher and the girl was plopped on it.

"Don't worry, I'll take care of her," The doctor took charge almost immediately and pushed the girl inside. Ryle, who was still holding the girl's hand, walked with them but suddenly a feminine voice made him stop in his tracks.

"Young master, welcome back," A young woman called out from behind. She, wearing a tight-fitting black skirt and crisp blue shirt, walked toward him.

"Sophia, " Ryle turned around only to call out her name through gritted teeth.

He just entered the promise and she got whiff of him already.

Then, he looked at the doctor who was in a rush to take the girl inside for examination. He waited for a second before the little hand slipped away from him as they took her inside.

"Madam is waiting for you," Sophia said, catching his attention back and he nodded his head. He gave a last lingering glance to the closed door where the doctor took away the girl and then had to leave with Sophia.

Away from the small buildings, a small villa was built in a modern style. A middle-aged woman was lying on a sickbed in one of the master bedrooms of the same villa. Her half-closed eyes were glued to the door as if waiting for someone.

"Mother…" Two knocks sounded on the door followed by the sweet voice of Ryle.

The Woman hastily sat up on the bed and dabbed her cheeks rashly to get rid of the paleness.

"Come in," Isabella said as she looked up with bright eyes and Ryle entered the room.

"How are you, my dear son?" The woman spread her arms to welcome the young man.

"I'm fine. How about you?" Ryle asked as he walked forward to hug her but suddenly she pushed him away.

"What's wrong?" The man asked in confusion when his mother refused his hug.

"Whose scent is this?" The woman asked with a frown etched on her forehead.

Ryle smelled himself and realised that scent belonged to the girl he had just brought home and it mixed with the scent of a few other wolves he had fought and killed in the forest.

"Oh, my car got into an accident with a little girl. She got badly hurt so I brought her back," He explained and took a seat on the bed beside his mother.

"A wolf?" Isabella narrowed her eyes.

"Yes, "Ryle replied.

"That's odd. How can a wolf be hit by a car?" asked Isabella suspiciously.

Werewolves are known to be smart and faster. With their strength and wit it was a rare case for them to run in accidents with vehicles.

"There were also some rouge wolves chasing her but I took care of them," Ryle informed his mother and took her hand into his.

Rouges? Her forehead creased.

"I'll ask Sophie to look into it," Isabelle nodded the matter in her head.

"Why is your hand this cold?" Ryle noticed and lines of worries marred his face.

The smile on Isabelle's face fell.

###

"And you didn't even think that I should be informed about this at all?" Ryle almost yelled at his own mother. The frightening aura around him even made his mother stunned.

His amber eyes were darkened from rage.

Ryle pulled his hair in frustration as he said, "What should we do? Did you consult the specialist? We should go now and consult the best among the best."

He walked toward his mother and held her hand, ready to went to hospital as soon as possible.

"Do you think I wouldn't have tried enough? But there is nothing we could do," Isabelle said as she shook her head. Her voice calmed as ever. As if the person she was talking about was not her but someone else.

Ryle looked at her helplessly and Isabelle smiled.

There was nothing they could do.

"But how can you have cancer? Werewolves are not supposed to be infected with such diseases," Ryle asked as he squeezed her hand.

"I don't have answer of this questions either," she took a deep breath.

"So instead of trying to fight, just accept it," The woman ran her other hand on his son's head helplessly.

Isabella Engelson was Luna of the biggest wolf pack of North America, The Bloodmoon Shadows pack, and currently the CEO of Engelson inco. A woman who could turn half of the country upside down with the single move of her fingers was now laying on the sickbed, dying from cancer.

It was impossible to believe that a werewolf could be infected by such a disease. Their body structures were not only different but also stronger than humans. They could regenerate the cells in their body quickly and it was a rare sight for a completely grown werewolf to fall ill.

However, the ability to regenerate the new cells was the main problem that dragged this woman to the situation she was in now. Her body was not just generating new cells but it was also quickening the growth of the cancer cells.

It was merely three months ago that she was diagnosed with the first stage of cancer and presently she is already at the last stage.

No matter how fine she looked on the outside, the inside of her body had turned entirely rotten and unfortunately, there was no cure for it.

"Three months mother…you are suffering for so long yet you didn't think of calling me back?"

Ryle Calyx Engelson, the Prince of The Bloodmoon Shadows pack said with a deep frown. The late Alpha and Ryle's father died in a fight with the Alpha of another pack fifteen years ago, leaving behind his young wife and five years old son.

As the Luna of the pack, Isabelle had no choice but to take the reign of the pack in her hand and also to handle the company that they had formed to live amongst the humans.

Ryle grew up by her side and she turned him into a fine and tough man. To make him even more tough five years ago she ordered him to go out and live on his own. He understood her intentions and left the pack and started to travel around the world. He met all kinds of beings including humans, werewolves and many others, walking under the dark shadows at night. He stayed with many packs as a rogue and learned his own ways around the world. It was hard at the start for a boy who has grown up in the warmth of his pack and mother but gradually he got used to it.

It was until now when his mother called him back and revealed such a shocking truth.
