Chapter 2

"Alpha Kalista, how are we going to go about the Festival? Remember we need to make sure it is a huge success." Kiara tells me as I go through the budget presented to me by her.

"I know, Kiara. I know that the Lichen Pack did a good job last year and I have to do much better." I reply her.

"I trust you, Alpha. I know that you are capable of doing a good job. You are very efficient." Kiara says with a smile on her face.

I roll my eyes and then flash a smile. I cannot say that I am efficient, but I know that every single day of my life, I do my best when it comes to making sure that the pack is properly run.

"Stop hyping me and let us get to work." I say to her and she takes her seat opposite me.

We start to work on the decorations, food, and when we start to discuss the number of people we are to cater for, I randomly chip in the fact that I am so happy that there has been no record of any death in the Pack.

"I'm so glad everything is going great. I mean, we have had a few challenges but we have been good." I say.

Kiara nods her head in agreement. "We are so blessed." She says.

After about four hours of extensive deliberations, we are able to come up with a very detailed plan for the Festival, and I immediately order the treasurer of the pack to make enough money available. The next day, I hold a meeting with the Betas of the other two packs and give them the budget for the Festival which is in just two weeks. The other packs contribute enough money and soon, everything is ready.

Finally, the day of the Festival comes and everyone is in a really good mood. The venue of the party is at the large Pack Hall which is strictly used for festive activities. I am told by Kiara that all the guests are in the hall and that it is time for me to appear.

"I'll be there in a minute." I tell her and she leaves the room.

"You look so beautiful!" Juliana, my best friend, says with a look of admiration on her face.

"Thank you, Juliana." I say to her as I give myself a final look in the gigantic mirror in my room.

I am dressed in a blue embroidered dress and it really suits by beautiful black skin. Juliana has insisted that I wear a set of beautiful knuckle rings and to be honest, they are sitting pretty good on my fingers.

With Juliana behind me, I walk out of the room and as soon as we step out, guards follow us. When I enter the hall, everyone stands up to respect me and I smile as I walk to my throne. When I sit, everyone sits and the Festival begins. As I scan my eyes through the seats reserved for the Alphas of the pack, I notice that the Alpha of the Black Fur Pack, Alpha Gray is not there.

But why?

You see, the Black Fur Pack is the strongest of the three packs of the Tincan Wereforest and he is also a very proud Alpha who is rumored to be very ruthless. I have not had any contact with him in all my years and I do not pray to. I really like Alpha Luke of the Lichen Pack. He is in his early fifties and he loves me so much and treats me like his daughter. When my father died, he was there for me and I will always appreciate him for that.

I decide to move my attention away from Alpha Gray to the Festival. Several performance come out to entertain us and I smile proudly as I watch. Drinks and food flow like water and Kiara informs me that everyone is having a good time.

The party lasts well into the night and finally, it ends at about three a.m. I thank everyone for their attendance and I leave the hall for my room.

I am very tired but I am thankful for the success of the Festival. I am sure that the Moon Goddess is happy that I organized such a beautiful festival in her favor.

Honestly, every nerve in my body wants to jump into bed immediately, but I know that I cannot do this. Thus, I stand in front of my large mirror and start to remove the pins from my hair. Next, I pull off my gown and then examine my body. I have always been in love with every inch of my body, but as I look at my toned abs, I tell myself that I need to take it easy on the vigorous training I involve myself in everyday.

A woman needs to have some flesh on her belly, you know?

I sigh softly and go into the bathroom, letting the warm water cascade from the crown of my head to the sole of my feet. I moan in pleasure as I experience a 'showergasm'. Don't even ask me if it is a real word.

After spending twelve minutes in the bathroom, I step out and wrap a towel around my body and later throw on one of my favorite nightdresses.

Just as I settle in bed, I am mind-linked by Kiara.

"Alpha Kalista!" She calls frantically.

"Kiara! You know I do not like it when you call my name like that; it makes me panic." I say.

"I am sorry, but there is every need to panic!" She replies frantically.

I start to panic immediately and my heart beats furiously against my ribcage. "Tell me." I simply ask her.

"Oh, Alpha…this is bad!" Kiara says and I am already getting pissed.

Can she just spill?

"Kiara, I beg you in the name of the Moon Goddess, tell me exactly what is going on." I say, clearly frustrated.

"Two pack members just dropped dead in their separate houses." She says.

What?
