Chapter 6

Senra looked at me in pity before he left and I just had the big urge to slap him across the face. I look at the alpha before I can pull a face; self-control is a must when facing the alpha.

“You know I am currently the father of the pack and I must watch over all of you,” He started and I nodded in agreement.

He leans back, staring at the painting that was created by his late mother.

“I advise you not to get too close to my comrade in battle,” he continues as he frowns a little bit, his jaw protruding and the veins almost popping.

I get terrified at the thought of him being mad at me, I’ll become the only secretary to have been guillotined and my mom is going to kill me even after that.

“Which one of them alpha?”, I ask, gathering confidence I never knew I had before.

“You know which one,” he said and I just nodded, understanding where he was coming from. He’s probably sick and tired of his own pack members eloping and leaving without warning.

“No worries alpha, you know I wouldn’t be able to do that,” I said as I take out my glasses and start reading my oath to the Ashyx pack.

“Besides, I’ve got far too much debt from-,” I stop mid-sentence as I realize what I was about to say. Phew, I almost got my head cut.

He frowns at me and asks, “From?”

I chuckle nervously, “I’ve got student loans!”

He nodded and I sighed in relief.

“You can go now,” he said and I nodded as I took off my glasses and bowed to him at exactly 40 degrees angle before leaving the room in silence.

I breathed out a big heavy air from my lungs as my hand chains glow a little bit, I’ve had these hand chains since I was a child.

My mother gave them to me and explained it was for my well-being, it’s been 20 years and these hand chains seem to grow with me.

They disappear when I don’t need them and appear only when I summon or I am in great danger.

Don’t tell anyone but when I’m with the alpha it’s always visible, and glows as I get away from the alpha.

I asked my mother about this but she only said it’s probably because you’re afraid of the alpha, and I can’t say she’s wrong.

My hand chains then transferred to my ear as a diamond-shaped earring.

I see Ruer as he gets out of- Ponte’s room? That’s unusual, Ponte is currently suspended due to failure of duty and Ruer was the one to declare this.

I approach Ruer and immediately ask him, “Why were you there?”

He looks flustered for a second before frowning at me, “What were you doing there?”

I scoff as I roll my eyes, “I’m literally the alpha’s secretary, what are you on about?” He just ignores me as he immediately runs away from me.

I swear he doesn’t do anything around here now that the alpha is injured, he is a mage and part of the subjugation team with the alpha.

I see the three troublemakers with Senra and I pause a bit, not wanting them to see me. Please, I just want to rest.

I slowly turn around, wanting to escape as I see Senra from my peripheral view, aggressively waving at me, oh no.

“What are you guys doing here?” I ask as I rub my temples, I’m getting a headache just from seeing them multiple times in a day.

“No! Semir is gonna take Senra from us!” Eric yells as Yul yelled back and Avi nodded. Oh yes please, take yourselves away from me.

“Noooo,” I heard Senra’s cry of help as he is forcibly taken by his little minions. “Such cute creatures”, I say to myself as I finally get this time for myself and work.

I rush as I walk through corridors, just to reach my office. I’ve not been able to use this for the past few days now and I am ecstatic to finally be able to use it.

I sit down to the most comfortable office chair in the world and take out my stenotype machine, the one my step-dad bought and Ruer was the one to power it up with his mana.

I’m so glad this takes mana because some previous electronic devices just do not take mana in peacefully, they either explode or just don’t work. Examples are phones, laptops and even Wi-Fi do not work now.

Even this machine is not exactly what it was when human species used it, it’s become more efficient and can store files by itself. The capacity is even larger than what they were able to store during human era.

I need to print the previous meetings that the alpha needed record of, even the meeting we had the night the alpha was assassinated.

It could even be crucial information because the topic we discussed that day was confidential, but – What was it again?

“How could I forget the meeting topic when I was the one who recorded it?”, I ask myself as I scurry to search for the file.

Minutes become hours as I have scanned through all my saved files, and the only file I left unopened was a file named, ‘Haha, not suspicious’.

I face palmed as I don’t have any hope for this file and as I open it, I see the file I’ve been searching for an hour now. “Argh,” I groan as I slump back to my seat.

I slowly start reading and I get taken aback by the contents of the actual meeting, I can’t even believe I was allowed to record it. Did the alpha know this would happen?

“I’m so confused,” I mumble as I grab my hair which has now become a nightmare not worthy to be called a ponytail.

“There might be a spy,” I think to myself as I don’t remember anything happening before the alpha was assassinated.

But it might also be because I felt too dizzy from inhaling too much of the alpha’s dominant pheromones, which caused me to forget some important details that night.

Maybe Ponte might know something, considering he was the one outside the alpha’s room when the meeting had ended.

“He seemed disoriented when we found him, so I’m doubting some-,”I was interrupted from my train of thought when I heard a commotion, far from my office but loud enough to alarm the whole building.

I immediately ran outside, not minding anything other than what could have been so alarming even Avi had to scream so loud.

I arrived to see everyone around the alpha’s room, I see Ruer holding a note.

“What? What happened?”, I asked, out of breath from all that running.

“The alpha’s gone.”
