18 The Arrow

Caleb POV

'Son were under attack! Southern borders!'

'I'm on my way dad.'

'I have made sure all the females and children have made it to the safe rooms'

'Good, I'll handle the border.' I'm glad that me and my dad have come together created battle plans on which of us are going to handle during attacks. We have been doing this since I was 16, he has always done his best to make sure I was capable of taking over as Alpha when I turned 18.

'Beta Curtis, where are you?'

'Headed to the border Alpha Caleb.'

'Good I'm on my way, if you reach before I do get all the information you can, and I want at least one alive. I want answers!'

'Yes Alpha'

'Dad, does Gamma Jack know we're under attack, I know he's with Emily, but I feel like he needs to be here for us to help each other with this issue.' I hate to interrupt the mating of the two of them, but I know that Emily will understand.

'Yes, he is already there. I have everything settled here just keep me updated.'

'Of course,'

By the time I got there, Gamma Jack already had everything under control. Several dead rogues laid around, with one in silver chains ready to be taken in for questioning. I have my beta take the rogue to the cells, I'll talk to him later, he needs to stew just a bit. I thank Gamma Jack for his quickness and have the boys clean up and burn the rogues' bodies. Sometimes I would rather be in school than deal with this, I miss my friends. Maybe I can talk to dad about going back to finish my Senior year.

As we turn to walk back towards the pack house, I hear Curtis yell, and everything goes black.

Scarlet POV

I rush out my bedroom, down the stairs and out the front of pack house into the woods.

'Let me take over Scarlet, we need to shift' I nod my head, then the pain comes for a split second and feel Iris fully take over as I shift into my wolf. Running for the first time as a wolf feel exhilarating!

'This feels amazing Iris'

'There is so much I need to teach you Scarlet'

'Iris I won't lie, I am nervous about this whole thing.'

'I will be here with you through it all, we are one and will always be together.'

Running in wolf form is exhilarating, feeling the soil beneath my paws, wind combing through my fur. I feel Iris raise her snout and inhale taking in all the smells of the forest. Everything has a more distinctive smell, not only stronger but I can smell minute differences. I can smell the white tail deer are running to the south of me, there is a creek just to the east of me, and pack borders a few miles in front of me.

'We are going to be chased, I will handle it so do not worry about them.'

'No promises, but I will do my best.' I can feel a small jolt of energy as we continue to run through the trees. 'Iris, what was that'

'We crossed into the Silver Springs territory.' Just as she finishes her sentence, I hear growling and several paws running after us. 'We are headed towards their pack house. Once we get there I will lay at the door and wait for them to get their alpha to come to me. I will still need control when we shift back into human form.' I mentally nod, just knowing that I can trust her.

As we run more wolves start to chase us and I can feel my nerves building. I start to see buildings as we head to the largest one, which I assume is the pack house. Iris runs and then she suddenly stops and darts to the left.

Curtis POV

I see Caleb turn and walk back towards the pack house with Gamma Jack as the discuss what happened with the breach in our boards when I see someone on the edge of the pack land step from the tree and shoot an arrow at Caleb's back.

"Caleb!" I yelled but it was too late. I watch as my best friend falls to the ground and convulses. The warriors run to catch the one who shot while I run to Caleb. I link Alpha Nathen to let him know what has happened and to get the doctor ready. With Caleb unconscious, I check him over and the only wound I see is the arrow that is logged in his chest. His heart is barely pumping, the arrow is silver plated and would cause massive pain but not render him unconscious.

As I start to remove the arrow, I see that it is really close to his heart.

"Alpha" I hear the warriors say and look up.

"Alpha Nathen" a say and bow my head in respect. "Doctor, I started to remove the arrow, but it is really close to his heart."

"We need to get him to the clinic as quickly as possible" Doc says. I see Caleb's dad lift him up and take of running. When we arrive at the clinic, they rush Caleb in and start to work on him.

'Beta Curtis, there is a breach at the border. A female, running and not slowing down. She's headed towards the pack house.'

'Do not harm her. I will head that way' I do not know why I said that. Normally we see crossing the borders with our permission a threat and kill the trespasser. But my wolf feels protective without evening seeing this wolf.

"Alpha, there has been another breach, a female wolf is running towards the pack house not stopping. I am going to go and find out what she wants. My wolf tells me she is of no harm to us."

He nods and places his hand on my shoulder "No, I will go. I am Alpha. Please stay here with my son. Make sure your best friend is safe." With that he turns and leaves.

I take a seat and wait. That is the only thing I can do until the doctor tells us something.
