10 Chapter 10

Isabella's pov

Alpha Devon had brought home a mate, this was the news I heard upon leaving my quarters, I was shocked. It had been too sudden, I hadn't even heard of him making any preparations whatsoever.

I paced around the room, panic-stricken. I had to do something. Alpha Devon was mine and mine to claim alone and I won't let anyone steal him from me, not even his chosen mate.

I knew I had to do something, I couldn't let alpha Devon fall for her. I paced around for a bit and then decided I was going to get closer to her. I need to know her better, after all, she was my rival.

I changed my dress into a simple red gown that flowed freely to my feet. I looked in the mirror and adjusted my hair. I smiled when I finally felt satisfied then I left for the main castle to look for the new bride.

I didn't need to search for long, as I entered the kitchen, I ran into a girl almost the same age as me.

"I'm so sorry, I wasn't paying attention" I exclaimed feigning guilt. I had intentionally run to her to converse with her.

She looked at me in surprise, her eyes reflected a bit of panic and fear before changing to one of confusion.

"Are you ok?" I asked her, this time I was actually a bit worried, for myself of course. I wondered if she knew me and why she looked weary of me. I was suspicious of her.

She nodded my head. She looked naive and something about her just screamed 'bully me'. She had long chestnut hair and deep emerald eyes. She was mesmerising and I got even more jealous of her. So what if she was beautiful? I was beautiful too.

"I'm Isabella" I introduced myself with a wide smile. My eyes hid any hint of animosity.

"I'm Avery" she smiled back.

"You are so beautiful Avery, I love your hair." I complimented, making her cheeks turn crimson red. I knew I had done good, I had made an amazing first impression.

"Avery, come have a sit." Alpha Devon called out. I looked in his direction, jealousy clouding my mind when I heard him call her name. I held it in, doing my best not to show anything on the outside.

"It was nice meeting you," Avery told me. She quickly walked towards Alpha Devon, joining him at the dining table. I didn't immediately leave, I wanted to watch how this would play out. I knew I would probably regret it but I just couldn't bring myself to leave.

"Hello," Avery greeted shyly. He stared at her intently, his gaze not faltering. I felt myself lusting after that gaze, I should be the one sitting next to him.

"Um--, is there something on my face?" She asked him, genuinely curious. I felt my jealousy bubble up again, this bitch was very good at playing the naive little girl. I breathed in deeply, trying to calm myself, my hands clenching.

"Of course not, you look beautiful." Devon complimented and Avery's cheeks turned crimson. She just couldn't stop blushing. Tch.

She looked towards the table filled with different assortments of food from chicken curry, Mac and cheese, tacos, spaghetti Bolognese and lots more, I could practically see the drool coming from her mouth. If eyes could eat, then the table would've been empty by now.

She moaned out after tasting the Mac and cheese, I couldn't blame her though, they really were amazing—even I had to admit that—but that didn't stop me from loathing her even more. She was clearly pretending that this wasn't on purpose.

" Grrrrrrr" I looked towards Alpha Devon, startled after hearing him growl. Avery also looked surprised at his action.

"If you don't want me to take you to this table, can you stop moaning please?" He said looking restless.

I felt my cheeks heat up even though I knew he wasn't talking to me. I had heard rumours from the other guys in the pack that Alpha Devon had a massive libido, I guess it was true.

I felt myself get jealous and my heart became filled with hate. That was my man and he was flirting with another lady instead of me.

I watched as Avery's eyes widened and she began blushing profusely. Alpha Devon looked at her with a serious look, trying to show her that he meant every word he was about to say.

I leaned in, perking up my ears to listen intently. It felt like every word he was saying was directed at me and even though it wasn't, I convinced myself it was.

"I want you to be mine Avery, I won't rush you but don't take too long, I promise to be the best mate you can ever ask for."

After saying this, he stood up and left hastily. Upon getting out of the dining area, he bumped into me. I quickly bowed my head in greeting.

"Hi, alpha Devon." I managed to speak out. He looked at me for a while before he turned around and left.

I felt my heart beat faster and my face turned a deep shade of crimson. Alpha Devon looked at me, he looked at me! I had never felt happier in my life. I had to get closer to him, I needed to make him look at me even more, I wanted him to notice me.

To do that, I needed an excuse to always be by his side, just like his bride.

I looked at Avery who was still at the dining table stuffing her face, a smile coming upon my face. She was my ticket to getting closer to Alpha Devon.

I turned around and left, heading back to my quarters, I knew I needed to befriend Avery and what better way to do that than during the welcoming party that alpha Devon was going to hold for her.

Alpha Devon will be mine.
