1 Chapter 1

It was a beautiful morning. The sun was shining, the fletchlings were chirping, and the bunnelbys were hopping around the yard. Serena had just woken up and was getting ready for school. She brushed her hair, got dressed, and went down the stairs.

"Good morning, mom," Serena said when she stepped into the kitchen. Serena's mom was packing Serena her lunch.

"Morning sweetie," Serena's mom said. "Breakfast is on the table. You better hurry up and eat. The bus is going to be here soon."

"Oh, right!" Serena sat at the table and started eating. She ate quickly even though she wasn't a fan of eggs. Suddenly, Serena heard a honk coming from outside.

"The bus is here!" Serena's mom yelled. Serena grabbed her backpack and headed for the door.

"Bye mom!" Serena yelled and slammed the door behind her. She got on the bus and took a seat in the back. Not long after they stopped at Ash's house. Ash was Serena's BFF and Serena looked forward to seeing him every day. Ash took a seat next to Serena

"Hey Ash!" Serena said excitedly.

"Hi Serena," Ash said back.

"Hi Pikachu," Serena said and gave Pikachu a chin scratch.

"Where's Fennekin?" Ash asked.

"My mom told me I can't let her out on the bus." Serena replied.

"Oh I see."

They soon arrived at the school and Serena and Ash hopped off the bus. Serena let out her Fennekin and they went to their classroom and started their day off with a little bit of math. Later they went to science, Ash's favorite subject. Ash liked it because you got to learn about pokemon and Ash loved pokemon.

"Today," The science teacher began. "We are going to learn about the pokemon Gourgeist."

Everybody oohed.

"Gourgeist is a grass and ghost type pokemon. It has a very dark story." The science teacher continued. Ash really wanted to hear the story and so did Serena. Even though Serena doesn't really like dark stories, she likes knowing a lot about pokemon.

"Gourgeist will come in the night time and knock on the door. Whoever answers will be swept off to the afterlife." The science teacher told them.

"That's scary!" Sid cried. Sid was a short kid with black hair and he absolutely hated scary stories. Sometimes he would even start crying if the story was too scary. "Please don't tell me even more!" he wailed.

"Sid I know you don't like scary stories but you interrupt me almost every science class." The science teacher told Sid.

"But I don't like scary stories!!!" Sid was really crying now. "They give me nightmares! Please don't tell me anymore!"

This happened in almost every science class and all the kids got super annoyed. Even though some kids thought it was scary as well, they also thought it was interesting.

After science they went to lunch. Serena loved lunch because she got to talk to her friends.

Serena sat down and started eating her lunch. Her mom had packed her a grilled cheese sandwich, some gram snacks and a cookie. Serena picked up her sandwich and took a bite.

Not long after three tall boys walked up to Serena. They were Serena's enemies: Carl, Patrick and Steve. Carl was the leader of them all. He was the biggest, the strongest and most definitely the meanest.

"Well, well, well, looky what we have here," Carl said. "It's a little crumpled paper, that's what you are." Steve and Patrick laughed.

"That's right! You're just a little pile of trash walking around." Steve agreed.

"No one likes you!" Patrick laughed.

"Ooh, what do we have here?" Carl said and picked up Serena's sandwich. "A grilled cheese sandwich? Who still eats these at the age of ten? Maybe it would be tastier if we did this." Carl poured vinegar on Serena's sandwich and stuffed it into Serena's mouth. He moved Serena's gaw up and down to make her chew.

"Ew!" Serena yelled. She hated vinegar, especially with cheese.

"Bye, bye stinky rattata! Make sure to keep stinking!" Carl said as he and his team walked away.

Serena hated Carl and his group and always tried to hide from them. But they always ended up finding her and it was hard to escape once they did.

Ash joined Serena at recess. He couldn't eat lunch with Serena because the science teacher asked him if he wanted to help out and of course Ash said yes.

"So what do you want to do?" Ash asked Serena. "We could play catch, or do a pokemon battle like we did yesterday."

"I guess we could do a pokemon battle again," Serena said. "But I'm going to win this time!"

"I'm not so sure about that!" Ash said confidently.

Ash and Serena made their way to the battlefield. Clemont was the referee of the battle.

"Today's battle," Clemont started. "Is Ash against Serena. You each will be able to use two pokemon. The battle will be over when both pokemon on one side are down. Now will both of you please bring out your first pokemon."

"Fennekin, go!" Serena said and threw her pokeball.

"Pikachu!" Ash yelled and Pikachu jumped off his shoulder.

"Battle begin!" Clemont yelled.
