Hunting

Instantly stopping their steps, the girls looked at each other as a sudden realization hit them, but suddenly Saeko shook her head and commented.

"It's impossible for that to be the case, since clearly Fenrir said that this place smelled of many animals that marked his territory and it clearly bothered him. I doubt a being that is similar to Fenrir would allow that."

"Then why is there nothing-?" Cutting off her words, Saya looked down at the ground and muttered, "I see."

"What did you discover?"

"This is a path that looks like it's been used quite a bit" Looking at the lack of vegetation where they walk, Saya looked up and continued "Apparently this path is very transient, no one would want to be here and most likely only weak animals like simple rabbits mark this place... after all marking a territory is no different than urinating"

"I don't think it's a good idea to follow this path, we don't know where it will lead us and we don't know what we'll find in the end, it's better to find a hidden area and slowly explore everything."

"I know" Turning her gaze towards the forest, Saya continued "Let's move away from this path and go deeper".

Turning to Fenrir, Yuuki asked "Fenrir, do you know if there are any caves around here? Ideally, it should be near a river."

"We don't even know if the water in this world is drinkable..." Muttering to herself, Saya turned to Fenrir and waited in silence.

"Mmmm..." Closing his eyes while focusing his senses, Fenrir finally nodded after a few seconds, then opened her eyes and walked towards the lush forest to his right.

"Great, looks like we'll have somewhere to live now."

Without a second thought, the whole group followed Fenrir, while Shizuka grabbed her tails and walked with a pout in her mouth at so much undergrowth and branches sticking to her clothes.

After a few minutes, the group finally arrived in front of a gigantic hill.

The trees never stopped covering everything, even the cave in front of Fenrir is completely covered in undergrowth and although they hear a river in the distance, they can't even see it because of the obvious lack of visibility.

"It's better than nothing" Shrugging, Rika looked sideways and continued "We can cut some trees and form some structure inside the cave. For a while in the army I had to help build houses for earthquake victims, it's not that hard if you have the necessary tools."

Moving deeper into the cave, Fenrir looked to the sides and sniffed the place, as the smell of dampness and dust wafted everywhere.

"Looks like no one lived around here" Managing to see easily in the dark thanks to her dragon eyes, Kiriko continued "It's not a bad place either, we'd just have to clean the dust and the musty smell goes away with a little fire... it wouldn't hurt to cover the rock walls with wood either".

"It's actually a great place" Nodding, Saya looked to the side and commented "This is much bigger than the house we had on the island."

The cave is certainly perfect for starting a new home.

Crossing a narrow entrance about 15 to 20 meters long and about 4 meters high, you will find a wide space about 20 meters wide with a circular shape.

Obviously the circular shape is not perfect, it has several stones in between and certainly the stone wall is not smooth at all, but it is a minor detail considering that the area is possibly up to 15 meters high, being a perfect space to install a house and even have space to use as a patio.

"So... shall we start?" pulling a broom out of a bag, Rei asked.

"*Sigh* If only we could manage our powers..." Lowering her gaze, Kiriko opens her hand and generates a small crimson flame, but only a few seconds later the flame was completely extinguished, causing Kiriko to smile bitterly.

"Then let's get to work."

Time passed quickly, thanks to the scarce light in the area, the herd never really knew if it was day or night, but under the constant work and the seemingly endless energy in their bodies, they really didn't even notice that they didn't stop working for two days without stopping.

Cutting trees, pulling stones, forming a path to the river, among many other things.

They literally made sure that even the walls were as smooth as possible just for aesthetics, while Rika made sure that a quality hut was built.

It may not have the old-fashioned luxuries of hot water from solar panels or anything similar, but having enough wood to make a fire and several buckets to fill with water is not hard to come by if you take the time to prepare everything.

Even baths are not necessary, after all with the change of race all the girls' organisms changed and everything they eat turns directly into energy, causing the digestive system to be totally erased from their systems.

At some point, Fenrir, having nothing else to do but move things around, left the cave and started running through the territory.

He wore neither his katanas, nor his cloak, nor his helmet, wearing nothing but his pants and letting his senses guide him.

With a small smile on his face as his golden eyes glowed in the darkness, Fenrir jumped quickly from one tree to another as he moved farther and farther away from the cave, only to stop suddenly and look silently at the first living being he encountered.

Without making any noise, Fenrir crouched down and silently observed his pitiful prey.

Quite pitiful indeed, since considering that our wolf used to hunt tigers, wolves or bears, the sight of a small white rabbit did not amuse him at all, after all the meat it gives is very little.

The rabbit is certainly not a normal rabbit.

For starters, a strange sharp horn protrudes from its forehead, while its size is around 40 centimeters tall and about 150 centimeters long, being larger than any rabbit seen in the previous world.

But as if that weren't enough, its crimson eyes glowed in a rather creepy way as its sharp teeth calmly ate another rabbit of the same species.

But not caring in the least, Fenrir slowly climbed down from the tree and began to walk with the utmost stealth towards his prey.

His breathing stopped, his heart beat slower and slower, while his body unconsciously moved in the right direction to avoid the wind spreading his scent.

Until only seconds later, Fenrir arrived behind the clueless rabbit and with a quick movement, he stuck his claws into the animal's neck, then threw it into the air and with a leap, transformed into the small wolf.

Taking a sharp bite to the rabbit's neck, Fenrir fell normally to the ground and furiously shook the animal, then set it down on the ground and watched it for a few seconds to confirm that it was dead.

"Grrr~" Wiggling it with his furry little paw, Fenrir grunted with satisfaction and not wanting to suppress his instincts and hunger any further, he began to devour it completely, fur and all.

Certainly for Fenrir not even bones are a problem, since everything he eats does not go to a stomach or a digestive system, but everything becomes vitality and transforms into his power.

Even its humanoid form is completely devoid of internal organs other than lungs and heart.

Devouring every last trace of the rabbit, Fenrir turned his gaze towards the remains of the other dead rabbit and regardless of its shredded state, he approached it and ate it quickly, then turned and ran back to his next prey.

Hours after hours.

For an indefinite time Fenrir dedicated himself to hunt and eat every rabbit he saw in the place, being curiously the only living being he saw in this area.

But we are not talking about 1 or 10 rabbits, no, Fenrir literally ate more than 200 rabbits on his way, while he found more and more.

In a way Fenrir took advantage of something vital in these rabbits and something that he easily recognized as an advantage. Unlike wolves, these strange rabbits do not live in groups or pairs, being all completely alone and more than one was found by Fenrir eating another of his own kind.

For certainly the hunt for Fenrir would be difficult if there were more than one rabbit, after all, all the kills so far have been relatively easy with Fenrir coming at them from behind and killing them with no problem by tearing their necks out.

"Grrr~" Finishing eating his last prey, Fenrir turned his gaze sideways and sniffed around for more food, then wagged his tail excitedly and ran quickly to the left.

Advancing in absolute silence through the grass, Fenrir jumped over a large tree and looked at the large circle with no tree at all, easily noticing from a distance a gigantic giant rabbit about 18 meters tall.

"..." Calming his tail, Fenrir watched the rabbit sleeping peacefully, so that after several minutes, he growled softly and turned back the way he came.

Running back, Fenrir did not look back the way he came and looked for more normal rabbits to kill, continuing his hunt for several more hours.

Anyone would think that Fenrir would simply attack without caring about anything and acting bestially, but the truth is that he would never attack an enemy that puts him under such pressure to begin with.

If he learned something with the wolves, it is that if you have no chance of victory against an enemy, the best thing to do is to retreat and go for another prey, at least if you have the option to do so, since many times you are forced to fight either because of a great famine or because you have to defend yourself.

Fenrir having a great sense of instinct, easily knew that this rabbit is out of his league for now, so no matter how appetizing and how much meat the rabbit has, it is of no use if it dies before he can taste it.

After a full day of hunting, Fenrir devoured the last rabbit and grunted with satisfaction, then sniffed the surroundings and calmly ran in a new direction.

After consuming so much vitality, Fenrir grew considerably, having a height of 90 centimeters, being even a little bigger than a normal wolf.

But if there was something that stood out a lot, it was that Fenrir was finding it harder and harder to grow.

If before he managed to grow around 10 centimeters only by consuming the heart of the humans that invaded his island, today after eating hundreds of giant rabbits, he hopefully grew to 90 centimeters, being quite little if we consider that the whole body of those rabbits was not very different from a human heart.

"Grr!?" Suddenly stopping his march, Fenrir looked to the left and grunted in surprise, then quickly ran and stopped in front of a new prey.

"Grrrr~" Growling softly as he stares into the eyes of the new being in front of him, Fenrir began to turn in a circle as his face distorted in hostility.

Fenrir was currently excited and angry at the same time.

After all he had just encountered an animal that seemed to be a wolf but instead of showing it respect, the bastard was staring at it.
