Chapter 26: Breathtaking

[Vereena]

"Stay very still, caileag," Callum whispered, I scowled at him, repulsing the moniker he had just given me.

"Don't call me that." I hissed, though my voice trembled with fear as my gaze never left the snake slithering into the branch.

The captain just ignored my chidings. His fingers dug into the fabric of my dress as he kept his grip on my shoulders firm, silently telling me to keep my mouth shut or the dreaded creature would sink its fangs to my neck.

And somehow, I did listen. My breath slowed down, my heart battering in my chest and my palms sweating profusely with fear.

The snake hisses, creeping its way into the branch deliberately slow for my liking. I close my eyes, silently praying that it won't fall into my head like what I have imagined since this morning. The very reason why I refuse to go with them and stay in the cave. But they didn't listen, they forced me to be here, and now, this bloody hell happens.
