Chapter 12

after the spider patrol and our meals, we began to do the plating of the walls, while nowhere near as time-consuming as the beams as we just have to have the metal sheets blowtorched together to hold them,' which we got as a part of the supplies, and to be attached and in three layers, for every wall as each would be held to the beams with thick metal clamps and bolts

as we worked the walls were much quicker than the beams to hold the walls on and while not looking pretty, they should work, the finished walls however were a team effort to place near the beams to bolt them and we made the wall closest to the spider patrol the first, Mostly just the have some of the protection, the issue is, it still gained attention unlike the beams did, so we had to now have to use the trench to hide along with the metal panels as now the spiders get curious

luckily they didn't look under the panels is all I can really say, as the second and third walls were perfectly fine, for the last wall though is the one facing the base, is where we have to place the entrance in, as we begin to build the door, it's one of the few things there was actual instructions for cause it works as it is attached by the wall, and detailed in a way for us to actually understand it

it separated into two teams one has multiple gears to be done beside the walls as they have to work on cutting the right measurements for the door on the metal sheets using the frame team two which I'm a part of are working on, as the door is easy but the door frame assembly took work to leave space in the door for the gear mechanism that's attached to the one on the wall

other than taking a bit more time, the wall does work in what it needs to do luckily, as we finish up the claps for the last wall, we all breathe a sigh of relief as we now have some good defense, kinda, either way with the walls dome, the trenches getting close to dug out and the cavern almost filled out wrong began to go full into digging the pits and filling the cavern As the day begins to pass we filled the cavern, and now used the pits and the sheet metal to hide plus sleep in, just in case the spiders decide to climb over the now complete walls to us, nothing this time either

we all get back up for the next day we got out of the base expecting to see Cook with food as it's a cloudy day today but this time it's just Cook as he began to speak in a calm tone

"sorry to tell you all but you must leave the base to the moving city quickly"

"how come? we already got the walls, and a place to Hide with the pit and metal sheets"

says the man in the muscle two As Cook points to the clouds

"you may not know as these missions are all of your only times to the outside, but acid rain is common here, yes, acid rain, and while the moving city's seemingly easy-to-destroy moss dome looks, it can deal with it well, unlike all of you"

suddenly the clouds went from rain to death in an instant when it was said as we can already see the clouds are nearing where we are

"so I suggest entering the moving city to wait it out"

as they begin to walk back as others are starting to run over to the elevator, as I see Jerry rush off as well Glancing at the incoming clouds as Cody is next to run, then Brownie as she pulls on my hand as I look over at her, she is looking at the clouds, what once seemed normal is now deadly, as my mind finally catches up as I see a single droplet hit the ground, with a hiss

they weren't lying

as I began picking up speed Glancing where Cook was only for them to be gone, as I shake my head and began running with brownie as the drops start to drizzle all hissing as we all began running for our lives as the clouds drizzle and come closer to us as we are near the moving city that would stop the acid from getting on top of us, as I breathe a sigh of relief

"they weren't lying that's for sure"

"yeah, I was so worried we might have been caught in it"

as soon the rain intensifies as the first group goes up the elevator Jerry and the thin duo are among it as Cody is right next to the elevator with a worried look that seems to not fit him

"What is it, Cody? your not the type to make an expression"

"I am just hoping the elevator now is faster than the last one"

as the rain goes down harder making small pools of acid begin to form

"what do you mean, by that?"

as she looks over at the pools of acid growing her eyes begin to widen

"yeah we are under the cover of the city, what do you mean, are spiders beginning to follow us now too!?"

as Cody shakes their head and continues looking out and back to the elevator and others began to Voice worries as I began to look out as I see what they were seeing

as the pools of acid as like water began to rise or sink toward the center of the moving city my eyes widen along with the others as we began to go closer to the elevator those that haven't seen how bad the acid is not as close as the ones who saw it first hand as the acid is going closer by a small bit, from the outside it looks like a flood is starting to form the acid starting to go in under the city

those that hadn't seen the acid even are also starting to back into the elevator as the acid is now under the city and coming toward us, when the others start to push against those already against it as if the elevator will go faster because of it

luckily though after another couple of minutes and the acid getting a bit close than I would like to see, the elevator finally did descend, as it opens, along with Cody and Brownie are basically pulled along into the elevator with the others that rush in and as the elevator doors close after the last person gets inside, as it begins to rise as I soon see as it does so that the flood makes it to where we were making me unconsciously gulp my saliva looking at it from the nervousness.

as soon the elevator continues to move and while we can see the new elevator mechanism nearby as it is clearly not finished yet, we are taken into the moving city away from the rain as it drops down and brings us to the drop-off point as we see the first group of us, as we soon get off of the elevator looking a bit spooked, to say the least.

as the closed eyes clerk soon says with an apologetic look still with their eyes closed along with Cook, while they didn't seem to have gotten on the elevator they are still here with the clerk

"We are sorry to say, but due to current weather conditions and progress the quest will have to be put on hold till tomorrow morning"

as Cook soon coughs for the clerk to recede for him

"so as a consolation for the almost dying, you will get 10 more points to use to get more acidproof armor to protect yourselves, that is all, we will see you all again after today"

as soon some get up to get some armor now that they can afford it as the acid rain event put some fear into them, and others because they might need leggings to walk with little issue since more than likely there is gonna be some acid puddles left from such a flood, as I and multiple others ready to get either some or more armor since acid puddles might be a thing well have to deal with after the rain

I'm also in the line to wait now having just enough to get another piece of armor As I wait with the others, as most of those that do are getting the same stuff anyway

as when my turn came up for the clerk came I just say what I want

"Ah, you want the chest plate piece correct?"

"yes, who knows maybe I'll get the whole set and save them up, eventually "

"yes eventually you do have enough credits so here you go and don't worry about opening in the armor they attach to each other"

as the clerk goes and gets me the chest plate I asked for, as soon I put my stuff away, and began to head home and talk to the others as I do so

it is raining today, a bad time though, not the worst, I just sometimes wish the rain would be normal and we didn't have to use the mindscape for the water supply, as I go to an elevator near the wall seeing a house with a bunch of 'they lie to us' boards patterned on a box home

"Ah this guy, ignore it there is always one or two of them"

as I enter the elevator as it begins to rise to the fourth floor as I see the plant layer which is usually thinner here to see what the weather is, though right now it's thick like the rest of the plant layer, and free of openings as I walk down from where the elevator is and going forward as I see black tar on the floor as I continue over and see the boss now wearing green pants and a cloak their long hair out as they cough out more black tar Noticing wolf

"rain must be really bad to get you to this point"

"It's normal now, so, any report for the suspicion?"

"It's not much but it seems like it may be a misfire"

"ah, is that so"

even while coughing up an amount of tar that shouldn't be healthy they seem so calm, like coughing up some mucus from their throat and not their equivalent of blood

as they look over at me

"then you better make sure it is, and not what you thought it was"
