43 A Brand New Lab

"Interesting, that armor you are wearing is a mix between fortress armor and magical silk. It doesn't look like it's made of normal materials though, is it thaumium?" Priestess Teala asked

"Yea? What else would it be made of? I tried using other materials and It couldn't handle the strain during infusion." I replied

"What the fuck do you mean strain? Your problem was that the armor wasn't holding together upon completion, correct?" Priestess Teala said

"Yeah sort of, mundane materials seemed to fall apart when I added that much praecantatio (magic) essentia to them." I answered

"That's your issue, don't use praecantatio you should have been using fabrico (craft) essentia for mundane materials, I should have a set of iron gold and netherite fortress armor somewhere in here. I'd show you but I can't quite remember where I put them!"

"The real question is where the hell did you get all that thaumium? I mean if I wanted to make a set similar to what you made I'd have to use 6-8 months' worth of materials to make something like that."Priestess Teala explained

"I made it all, where else would I get it?" I responded

"Made it? You didn't mine it?" Priestess Teala asked

"Yea you make thaumium by soaking iron in praecantatio essentia, I didn't know you could mine it." I answered

I watched as Priestess Teala quickly went to a nearby crucible and tested what I had told her, cursing the entire time for not having attempted something like this before.

"GOD FUCKING DAMN IT, I can't believe I haven't tried something like this before!"

"Well, congratulations on single-handedly revolutionizing thaumaturgy, what do you want in exchange for the patent for this recipe?" Priestess Teala asked

"Uh, patent? I didn't patent this recipe though?" I responded

"You did as soon as you showed me, I can ignore all the shitty bureaucracy involved with making a patent, but what do you want in exchange?"

I thought about it for a moment before coming up with a decent idea of what I wanted.

"I want a lab built into the greenhouse and for all greenhouse duties to be left to me. In the lab, I want a brewing stand, enchanting room, and an arcane crafter with space for more stuff If I need it." I asked

"Really that's it? The expansion of the greenhouse is going to suck but I can guarantee that most if not all of the thaumaturges would be happy to hear that they no longer needed to do greenhouse shifts." Priestess Teala replied

"Yea that's all I can currently think of at the moment, the house I have is nice but it's unbearably hot here so being able to lodge in the greenhouse would be fantastic. What's so special about thaumium anyway?"

"What's so special about thaumium? I know you haven't been around to learn the problems that we face while living in the nether so I'll explain it. The nether has very limited resources, gold is super common but it dulls and breaks easily so it's not a great material to use, iron although far superior to gold is rarer and is better suited to be used for machinery rather than for military purposes. Diamond which can only be found within abandoned structures would probably be the best material if not for the fact that working with diamond is fucking stupid, unlike metals that could be melted down to be reused if you fuck up while crafting with diamond you ruin the piece. Then there is netherite, which is by far one of the rarest materials on its own. It's really brittle, but when you coat other things with netherite it drastically changes, improving the base object."

"The reason that thaumium is so good is that it's better than iron, it's more durable, more conductive with magic, and more heat resistant. Its durability is almost on par with diamond, its heat resistance is on par with netherite and its magical conductivity is as good as gold!"

"That's why it's so good, and now that it can be made using iron it has easily become the best material!"

"I'll hand you some notes on artificing later. I need to go and get this patent and your new lab ready in the meantime!" Priestess Teala explained before getting up and running out the door

"Damn that was nowhere near as useful as I thought it was going to be." I said aloud

I got up and headed towards the door trying not to trip over anything on the way out. "WOO I'M FREE!" I could hear from the other side of the door. Upon making out of the room she saw that the guard that was once here was now missing.

I was rather sad that Priestess Teala left early but I was getting tired so I decided to head back to my house and sleep before I headed over to Dandle Dorf's lab. On my way home I walked through a market and decided to buy some new materials that were exclusive to the nether.

I bought some soul sand which was rather creepy since it was covered in what looked like agonized faces, some ghast tears, and ghast leather. I bought some more primal shards along with some other shards, those being nether shards which felt like they had some minor amount of divinity residing in them, something I would have to do further testing on. There were also some shards that represented the 7 sins; Wrath, Sloth, Envy, Pride, Gluttony, Greed, and Lust. There was also a jarred node that I quickly bought up.

After my short shopping spree, I got back to my house, made some food, ate, and then decided to go to bed. I hoped that my lab would get built quickly because I was sick of sleeping in this heat even if the ghast leather was nice and cool.
