27 Destiny unfulfilled
[3rd POV]
*BOOOM!!!*
An explosion occurred under the ground of the New York Snatury and Thanos came out from it. He landed on the road before he jumped again and this time to the top of a high building.
From there, he looked at the city which was still in a state of chaos. It has been 15000 years for him yet no time had passed in New York.
Leviathan and the Chitauri flying chariots could be seen flying in the sky of New York, raining down destruction on the people and soldiers below.
Not only that, there were also helicopters and jets that fought an aerial battle with them but they lacked the maneuverability of the Chitauri soldiers so they were shot down easily.
Thanos took in the dust and smoke-filled air and a wide smile spread across his face. He was finally free.
Then beside him, a portal opened up and the Ancient One walked out. She was no longer the old and bald lady, instead, she was a beauty with silky ash blonde hair and eyes that reflected the vast ocean.
She stood beside Thanos and looked down at the destruction. She did not voice out her displeasure but there was a small frown on her pretty face.
Thanos saw that from the corner of his eyes and decided to complete his end of the deal since the Ancient One had done hers.
He did not have to do anything in particular, he just had to leave Earth and spare them of his salvation but he had other things in mine.
"Now let's test this, shall we," Thanos said while looking at the time stone which glowed green in his hand.
He covered the stone with his fist and he began absorbing the power of the time stone.
During the time spent in the prison, he did not idle and trained with the Infinity stones. And after all those years, he was extremely proficient in using them.
His body being able to conduct cosmic energy helped as well and he was able to use the power of the time stone quite easily.
"Interesting. It's oddly similar to the space stone." He commented while his veins began glowing green and his eyes took a green glow.
Then a green magic circle began spreading from his feet and it spanned across the whole city of Manhattan and all the destructions.
Thanos felt a strain in his body but he followed through with his plan. The magic circle consists of weird geometrical symbols with a big star that spans across the circle.
A similar magic circle also appeared in his arm that was holding the time stone and Thanos tried rotating them with his hand.
It was heavy, and Thanos used all his energy and power to rotate his hand and the circles.
The first thing that happened was the stoppage of time. Time stopped and the reality covered by the magic circle halted.
The rest of the world continued as normal but time had completely stopped in New York. But Thanos was far from done as he slowly reverted time.
Like a video being rewinded, the city of New York started reverting back.
With the help of one of the six singularities, Thanos created a phenomenon that defined the rules of the Universe and broke logic.
Thanos compared the feeling to trying to swim up a river. It was hard but it was achievable.
Just like that, buildings started forming together again. The roads were fixed and even the people who had died not too long ago came back to life.
But those who have died for a long time could not be revived as their soul had been claimed by death. And Thanos wanted nothing to do with Death so he did not try to force their souls to return.
The Chitauri soldiers, on the other hand, returned as they had no soul. By the end of it, Thanos had not lost even a single soldier in the invasion of New York.
-10 minutes, -20 minutes, -40 minutes, -1 hour.
Time flowed backwards and Thanos continued until it was the same time the attack happened. The people who were still alive went back to their original positions as well and they looked around in confusion.
Thanos stopped using the time stone and he was visibly exhausted.
The Ancient One came by his side and helped him but it did nothing. Still, he was satisfied with the gesture.
"You know how to win a lady's heart don't you?" She asked with a beautiful smile on her face, she was happy with what Thanos had done.
He was not obligated to do it.
Thanos scoffed.
"I did not do it for you. I was doing it to test out the extent of my powers with the time stone." He said with dignity.
And it was the truth. He did not do it for her, her frown only gave him an idea. Nothing more, nothing less.
He stood straight back up and looked at the thousands of Chitauri who looked just as confused as the civilians.
Then he spoke in a loud voice, "Chitauri soldiers!! Return back to the mothership!!"
His voice echoed through the city like thunder. Then he used the space stone to open four portals in the sky that led to the mothership.
He was able to do something as small as opening a portal with ease after training and using the space stone for thousands of years.
It took more than half an hour for the whole army to go through the portal and after they were done, Thanos closed the portals.
New York City was as good as new. it was like the whole incident was nothing but a distant nightmare.
If not for the littered corpses - which are unharmed but without a soul - around the city, they would have thought everything was just a nightmare.
Peace and a sense of order returned to New York due to the mercy of Thanos. He takes and gives like a God.
"Interesting. So although I turned back time, it is only for the city." He said while looking up at the sun.
It was at the same place where it was before he turned back time. It made sense but he would've loved it if the time zone changed.
It because of a particular reason except it would be cool to left a mark in the world.
He turned to the Ancient One who smiled sweetly at him when she saw him looking at her.
"Don't smile like that, Yao." He said, deciding to call her by the name she had revealed to him during one of their many fights in the time prison.
"You won't have the same smile after what I am about to do next." He said ominously.
Then he used the space stone and gave it a destination. He did not know where he was going but he did not need to know.
He just has to tell his intentions to the space stone. Because even if he did not know the exact location of where he wanted to go..
Space knows.
A blue portal appeared in a mist and Thanos stepped through it. Yao followed her master curiously.
What awaited them at the other side of the portal was a hospital, specifically a surgical room. There were many doctors surrounding one patient in the bed. It seemed they were in the middle of an operation.
There were six doctors in total and all of them fell and screamed in horror except one man who seemed to be the leader of the operation.
"Kyaaaah!!!"
"Moster!!"
Thanos went forward and everyone ran away except for the one man who looked like the leader. He held the man down with the space stone and the others screamed at him to run.
"Dr, Stephen Strange!! Get out from ther-" he could no longer scream because Thanos cut it off by sending an invisible space slash. He was annoyingly loud
Yao was rooted in her place and indeed, just as Thanos had said there was no longer a smile on her face. She knew exactly what he was doing after she realized they were in the hospital.
Thanos finally reached the man known as Stephen Strange and he grabbed him by the neck and lifted him up from his place.
Stephen struggled as Thanos slowly tightened his grip.
"Why?" Strange asked right before he was going to die and Thanos humored him.
"Blame your destiny." He said and snapped Stephen's neck like a toothpick. Then he used the mind stone to compress his corpse until it was nothing but a globe of flesh and bone.
He threw it in the dustbin like a piece of trash. Then he turned around and walked back to the portal.
An eerie silence descended the place as if the Universe itself was mourning for the death of Stephen Strange.
"How did you know?" Yao asked before Thanos crossed the portal and Thanos stopped. He looked at her eyes and a grin spread across his face.
It should be impossible for him to know the future. Even with the time stone, looking at the future or even trapping someone in a time prison requires knowledge of sorcery.
So how did Thanos do it? How did he know Dr. Strange was to be the next Sorcerer Supreme?
Her knowledge that Dr. Strange, who was prophesized to be the greatest sorcerer was why she could easily give herself up to Thanos. She thought Earth would be safe in his hands.
But now he was dead.
"You are not the only one who knew of what is, what was, and what will be." He said and went through the portal.
God that felt good. Throughout the whole time he interacts with the Ancient one, he always seems to be a step behind. He could only guess the intentions and plans she had.
But now the tables had turned.
Thanos was satisfied with the harvest. Not only did he get three infinity stones, he also killed Iron Man and Dr. Strange, the main reason he lost in canon.
The hasty plan of going to New York proved to be fruitful.
