Chapter 5: Frenzy in the world of whales

This is the style to indicate who is speaking. You wouldn't need this if you have watched the gameplay video as I have said in one of my comments, but I am writing this just in case.

J --- Jessamine Kaldwin (empress)

------ 1 minute before arrival,

The empress' gazebo, Dunwall Tower -----

J --- "They are sick people, not criminals."

R--- "We have gone beyond that question, your majesty. They're...."

J --- "They're my citizens, and we will save them from the plague if we can. All of them."

R --- "Very well."

J --- "We will not speak of this again."

E --- "Mother, corvo is back." (Aww, sweetie)

J --- " Leave us please. "

R --- " As you wish, your majesty. "

---------- Present time ---------

R --- "Corvo, two days early, full of surprises, as usual."

R --- "Follow me, captain. We should leave them."

Corvo goes to empress Jessamine while humming. He tries to greets her as the royal protector, but she initiates a conversation with him, instead.

J --- "It's a fair wind that brings you home to me. What news have you brought?"

Corvo hands over the report letter to the empress.

J --- "I hoped that one of the other cities had dealt with this before. Knew of some cure. This news is very bad. We are at the breaking point."

Alex secretly puts his hand on one of his fully-loaded hand guns attached to his waist.

J --- "Cowards! They are going to blockade us. They'll wait to see if the plague turns the city into a graveyard."

E --- "Are you okay mother? You seem sad."

The other veterans also got into an attentive position as they could feel that this was a very important point for the plot, and now they would definitely be getting in danger. The other 6 newbies tried their best to mend into the environment. Two of them tried to take care of the nearby plants, while the remaining 4 went down the stairs, feeling they would be more safe with the 2 people who they think were from the higher up positions of the army.

'Heh, fools!!' thought Alex and the 3 veterans at the same time, though Alex thought so for a different reason. He knew that the royal spymaster was the conspirer behind all these and by going with him, these 4 newbies were just digging their graves.

J --- "Yes, don't worry, darling. Mother is fine."

A deep silence occurs, and Alex begins actively searching for the assassins. He spots one but waits till the others arrive. He wouldn't want to alert them before making sure they don't escape.

E --- "Mother look, what are they doing on the rooftop?"

J --- "What? Emily, come here!"

Everyone on the gazebo, Corvo, the 3 veterans, and the 2 newbie servants get alerted.

Alex quickly shoots the assassin he saw approaching from the behind, fully believing that corvo would deal with the small fries approaching from the rooftop. And when he had finished off the summoned assassin did he realize, the number was more, wayy more than what was shown in the game.

'Of course, in the game, the empress was the only target, but here all 10 of us along with the empress are the targets, so Daud has sent many more whalers to get us. I need to finish this quick before he arrives to take the kill.'

While the veterans were trying to survive and get some points, they also wanted to not increase the difficulty too much by taking unnecessary action when the royal protector Corvo was with them. Hence they tried to kill the enemies who either got too close, or were in a group together. But soon, they realised that the number was not dwindling and they began desperately trying to shoot and kill them as quick as possible, to not get overwhelmed.

But Alex was different. By this time, he had located the major locations where the assassins were teleporting from and began his onslaught. He fired at them without bothering too much to aim and got them killed withing two bullets per head. He quickly took care of the assassins from the back while moving closer and closer to corvo who was trying to protect the empress while trying to kill the assassins with much better shooting skills than what he had shown in the game.

Alex killed nearly 7 summoned assassins and then focused on the front, leaving his back to the veterans. He picked up a sword from the ground and started fearlessly slashing at the assassins, who couldn't damage him much because of the armor he had worn. He quickly had to leave that thought , though, cause the whalers had arrived. He threw the sword and reloaded his guns when he saw the whalers teleporting on the rooftops. He then turned around to fire at a summoned assassin but his whole attention was at the whalers behind his back. His shot missed but he quickly returned to his previous position when se saw the two whalers had arrived at the gazebo and were trying to deal with corvo. He quickly shot both of them at the same time in the head, instantly killing them while throwing their short swords at the two newbies so they could at least protect themselves. He also put his guns back to his straps, and instead took the guns of the whalers and their bullets, whatever he could during this situation, because he knew that though he had brought enough bullets with him, he wanted to accomplish some side missions in this world and hence had to save up on his bullets.

He then left the corvo's side and went near the newbies area because of two reasons. Firstly, the assassins had realized that these nutjobs couldn't harm then and hence had started coming from that side in very large numbers. The newbies couldn't do anything and just pulling back while getting cut and shot in various parts. One of them was in very bad state and the other was barely fighting.

Alex fed the bloodied newbie a painkiller and used the hemostasis spray on him to keep him alive. The newbie was shaking and terrified but still wanted to fight because he thought that if he didn't, then he would end up dead while the others were busy fighting because the enemies could teleport.

While this was happening, the veterans had cleared their side and were coming towards the newbies.

"Good job, kid! Didn't expect you to be this capable, were you training for the army or something?" Said the scar-faced veteran.

"Nah, I was just brought up in the US, and am quite a gun enthusiast." Alex replied casually while shooting one of the incoming whalers in the chest. It didn't kill him, but made him stop at least.

"Alright, now reload and take a break. We will take care from here. This world seems easy." Said the veteran with the glasses. He took out his sword and it suddenly began shining yellowish around the edges.

'Qi?' Alex quickly thought of the upgrade the man must have bought and realized that he was half-decent in utilizing the Qi. The veteran ran to the wheelers and slashed at them with his sword while the scar-faced man took out his Uzi with infinite ammo and kept firing at them. The seductive woman seemed to be using some sort of spell that was healing the two while she enclosed herself in some sort of magic shield which looked fragile, but should be enough to block one or two surprise attacks of the whalers.

Alex then began looting the bodies of the dead whalers and shortly arrived near the empress and her daughter Emily.

"Thank you for your support , I wouldn't have been able to handle them all without you." Corvo thanked him while he tried to escort the empress and Emily outside of this fight area.

It was at this moment that Daud arrived along with the remaining whalers. Seeing how bad the situation had gotten he quickly used his "bend time" ability and tethered Corvo making him unable to move while his whalers killed the three veterans who had caused the most trouble and were moving towards Alex to kill him as well. He was also stuck in time but his partial resistance to special effects blessing activated and he was thus able to move, albeit not quite freely. He felt as if his body was made of lead and had a very tough time reaching for the handguns. But he remained calm and tried to act as if he was also stopped while waiting for the whalers to get near.

When he saw Daud had slapped Jessamine and was going for the kill without caring about the surroundings, Alex forced his hands to move through sheer willpower alone and shot twice at Daud. The bullets hit him in the stomach but didn't manage to kill him but the effect of the 'bend time' had stopped. Daud, alarmed, quickly blinked from the scene and tried to escape and survive, because the bullets had dealt more damage to him than he had imagined (well, it was a modern weapon, so it was to be expected),while the whalers ran to attack Alex, he didn't care about them and quickly arrived at the edge of the gazebo to go for the kill.

"Daud is too big of a target to let him live. He would make my time here seem like hell now that the veterans had died and he had seen that I could escape the influence of his powers."

He shot at Daud 8 times while he himself felt 2 bullets hitting him in the legs. But he didn't care about that and continued shooting till both his guns gots emptied. It seemed as if something had overcame his mind. He had even neglected the messages that had arrived in his watch.

He then turned back when he had felt that Daud was dead, and saw that the newbies had been frozen on their places, not understanding how the veterans had died while they had survived. They were going through a complex plethora of emotions, being happy about surviving while being terrified and confused at the same time about the strange nature of the veterans' deaths.

The whalers were being kept at bay by Corvo who had managed to take down 2 of them while fighting the remaining one. But he himself was not unscathed. He also had suffered from some terrifying wounds. He had been shot in the chest while also being gashed on his legs and arms. Alex quickly put down his guns and picked up the gun of the whaler he had taken earlier, and shot at the last remaining whaler, killing him without much effort, since he couldn't teleport now that Daud was taken care of and his 'Arcane Bond' was broken.

He then went to check up on Emily and the empress and after making sure that they were alright, and that no harm had been done to them, he arrived near corvo and gave him the painkillers and used the hemostasis spray on him to stop his bleeding. Corvo was surprised from the quick effects but he didn't question Alex, because he had seen too much today. The existence of magic and assassins who were very experienced in wielding them. The ability to stop time, rendering him unable to move and how the royal empress and her daughter had almost gotten killed while he was unable to do anything. Corvo was willing to trust Alex who had risked his life to save them and had killed the strongest assassin without caring if he was shot.

Alex then returned to his normal state from the strange state he was in and then checked his black watch to see the notifications he had missed while in the fight.

'It seems I have gained quite the points this time. Hmm, the saving Jessamine mission had to have more rewards, it seems they were shared with the newbies.'

Alex arrived at the newbies and brought them to reality after punching them in the faces.

"Ahh, fuck. Why would you do that?" They yelled at him, but quickly shut up when they had realized what had happened.

"I had no other choice, shaking you vigorously in your current situation was bound to worsen your wounds." Alex told them while tending to their wounds. He then left with the servants and went towards the empress. He saw Corvo tending to them and reporting the matter that the assassins had been all killed and about the strange magical abilities they had deployed.

Jessamine sighed in relief while Emily was shocked from the sight of the bloodbath that had occurred. She commended Corvo and Alex for their bravery and loyalty and scolded the servants for not going to call more guards. But now that she thought about this, she found it very strange that despite the massacre that had occurred here, not even a single guard arrived to check up on the matters. She then immediately understood the situation and warned corvo that it might have been the plan of an insider with enough power to keep the guards away, and that they might have been planning a coup from a long time. She immediately got wary of the higher in-commands and promoted Alex to be the personal bodyguard for Emily.

Alex suddenly received a notification.

Alex promised the empress that he would not allow any sort of harm to come to the princess and then went along with the others to the royal doctor to tend to their injuries. On the way out, he saw that the 4 newbies who had went with the spymaster had been killed by the assassins. 'Heh, knew this would happen. They were foolish enough to actually leave the side of the veterans.'
