1 Terminus

Captain's Log: Day 3,141. Distance from Red Shift: 40,000 Km. Time Until Terminus: 11 Hours, 57 Minutes.

Well, the time has come...

The day has arrived, later today I will be flying into the heart of the Red Shift and die in the process, this has been a day that me and the whole of Terminus HQ have been preparing for a very long time, it has been a long journey, but this is it, no turning back now, the end is here, and by the time I'm long gone, all of my logs will be destroyed, so by the end of the day, no one will be able to see them ever again, I feel like this journey will be particularly remembered for the boundaries it broke down, because it has proven time and time again that long-distance space flight is worth doing.

As for what I am doing for the occasion, I am just going to focus on the mission and then celebrate in heaven, since I want this final part of mission to go as smoothly as possible, because I don't want to fall short of the Red Shift like loads of people have done in the past. The finish line is in sight, I need to be very careful not to mess this all up.

Now before this journey ends, I once again want to say thank you to everyone who has tuned in to see my epic journey unfold, it really means the world to me, and more importantly, you will be around for the end of it, consider yourselves very lucky that you were able to catch this momentous occasion in history, I would also like to thank everyone at Project Terminus for all their hard work throughout this mission and I am going to miss them very much when I'm gone. Right I'm going to prepare for the end of this great journey, I'll catch you all later.

11 Hours and 27 Minutes later...

Well, just half an hour or so to go until I get ripped to shreds by the Red Shift, so, this is it, the final chapter of an eight year long story through time and space, the finale of this mission is about to commence. "Captain, can you hear me?" MC says to me, "Loud and clear" I reply with, I was trying to keep calm about what was a about to happen to me, "Are you sure you still want to do this?" he says to me, I hesitated for a few seconds, I once again had that thought of "Was this justified?" run through my head, ultimately I said, "Yes MC, I'm ready to die" but in some way, I was not ready.

"We are all going to miss you when this is all over Captain" Mission Leader said, that is when I realized just how much they cared about me, and I replied with "I'm going to miss you all too" I took a moment to focus myself, there was a huge mix of emotions in Terminus HQ, and didn't know how to feel about the fact that this IS the end of the road. I sat back and gazed at the Shift for one final time, "I feel like the luckiest man in the universe right now" I thought to myself, in just a few minutes time, this sight would be replaced with the gates of heaven, "I'm sorry I had to do this to you all, but this journey has been absolutely incredible, thanks again" "No worries Captain" Mission Leader replied with, "Alright then, all I have left to say is, good luck and goodbye" I paused for a bit, and readied myself for the finale of this great mission. "This one is for you Alex" I said to myself, and with that, I began...

I turned to face the very core of the Red Shift, and slowly started up the engines that would guide me to my demise, as the ship slowly cruised into the flaming abyss, I could see the Terminus crew all wave at me, some even started crying, they knew how momentous this was, and so did I, the ship got faster and faster as I prepared for the end, as I did so, my entire life flashed before my eyes, the day I joined Project Terminus, the day I went on my first test flight, the moment I met Alex, everything seemed to whisk by before I could even remember those great times, I took one last look at the picture of me and Alex on the New Year flyby, tearing up in the process, and then, uttered my last words.

"One small step for man, and the end of time for humanity..."

Communications Lost.

I looked up, there I was, the gates of heaven, it was a magical moment, I stepped through them, took a look around, realising what I had done, "I'm here" I said to myself, all of my eight year long journey into the Red Shift had paid off, and this was my reward. "Have you missed me?" I heard a voice say, I turned around.

It was Alex.

I froze, he was here too, I looked him in the eye, I could not believe that it was actually him, I thought I would never see him again after his suicide, so seeing him there was a great moment, "It's really you!" I exclaimed, I ran and hugged him, this was the best reward of them all, he somehow knew that I would make it here, so, at least he believed in me when I almost had no belief in myself.

"Once again, I am so so sorry for what I did all those years ago" he wanted to forget about all of the anguish and grief that he caused when he committed suicide, and I forgave him for that, since we were reunited at long last. "Don't worry mate" I said to him, "The dream team is back again!" we both laughed and we walked on into heaven, knowing that my journey was at long last, complete.

Goodbye
