1 The String Of Fate

FWOOOOSH~!!

'Such a nice scenery…'

That was the first thing the little demon thought when his ruby colored eyes opened to take in the world around him.

The strong winds blowing his messy, white hair over his face, revealed sharply pointed, dark grey ears. This boy that looked no more than 11 years old was clearly not human, yet didn't have the air of a monster.

Where am I?

How did I get here?

Who am I?

"What was I doing before…?"

FWOOOOOOOSH!!

Getting up from the tree, the boy stood up and looked over the cliff he rested upon.

"Ah, such beuty."

Three rivers going through the vally with mountainous geomasses around them. The lush greenery held the sun's attention as it beamed across the land.

FWOOOOOOOOSH~!!

"Is it going to storm so suddenly?" The demon thought as he looked up at the clouds. They indeed where getting thicker and darker.

'Wait, wont I getting rained on though?'

With that sudden realization that he really had nowhere to go or none to help him, he felt slightly downhearted but felt he should find shelter before worrying about anything else. His hand seemed to grasp at something on his waist but the moment nothing was felt there, he felt his heart skip a beat with a surprised look on his face that quickly flipped to confusion.

'Nothing there…'

It was as if his hand moved on its own, there was no reason for him to be reaching for anything yet he was surprised when there wasn't?

It was too strange, but he got going off the ledge and quickly ran along the plains enjoying the soothing weather.

Some Time Later

"I guess i'm glad I found this cave, the sun's about to set and I don't even like the thought of going at night. It makes my skin crawl."

Slightly shuddering as he spoke, he peered down into the river and drank some water before looking at his reflection.

"So, I guess I'll stay here for the night and move in the morning. I haven't looked around the area though, so maybe i should do that first. Although, I also dont know where I am or where a close settlement is."

Natural Survival.

The instinct that every species follows in their life is the instinct of survival.

Things like fear or nervousness make you more cautious of potential or eminent danger, pain motivated withdrawl from harm, hunger insights hunting, and weakness motivates growth.

The little demon demonstrated outstanding survival instincts as he was able to adapt quickly to his situation, although he held no memory or knowledge to go off of.

As he was, his survival rating is a whopping 85%!!

KATHOOOOOOOOOM!!!

'These lands are truly treacherous. Such a heavy storm invading these lands after such hours of brewing. It's frightening!!'

The thunder and streaks of lightning along with the pitter pattering of rain and the whistling of the wind didn't help ease his mind as the rain still sprinkled into his face from outside.

The entrance of the cave was but two steps away from its furthest depth, how could it be called shelter?

With unnecessary thoughts being disregarded, the little demon squeezed its eyes tightly shut and got as comfy as he could.

As the demon closed his eyes he had nothing left to do but wait the storm out. To keep his mind occupied he decided to be vigilant and look out for any threats that might've used the storm for easy prey stuck in their homes.

The Next Day

Luckily nothing happened to him that night.

"Hmph, so much mud I have to tread through!!"

Stomping away as he prepared to leave, the little demon was caused such frustration from the storm that took place. His boots nearly sinking completely into the muddy plains as he walked.

With no particular knowledge of his location, he marched on with nothing but hope in his heart.

"Annies, how's your garden going?"

"Take a look for yourself, bare witness to the rusults of this grandmothers care!!"

"Ren when did you get back?"

"Oh, not too long ago actually. Hey where we still on for…"

A beautiful and bustling village stood peacefully in the land of infinite grass. Women, children, men and animal alike seemed to be rather prosperous in this place of infinite tranquility.

"DEMON!!!"

"HUHHHH DEMON??"

"A DEMON DARES TO TOUCH THESE LANDS!!!"

Standing on the other side of the barrier made of wood, the little demon stared in awe.

"Following the river was really the right choice…" His blissful mumbling made the guards of the village flinch before their weapons were pointed at him.

"WHY YOU LITTLE DEMON, WHY HAVE YOU COME!!"

The village guard was rooted to the ground as he shivered just being in front of the monster before him.

Ragged and dirty with dried blood on his clothes, the demons appearance was definitely that of a savage with his red eyes seemed to want everything they had.

'TRULY TERRIFYING!!'

"Demon? Aren't you too harsh!!"

*GROOOWWLLLL~*

"LOWER YOUR WEAPONS!! THIS CHILD BEARS NO ILL INTENTIONS!!" A thunderous voice mad all three of them flinch as they turned their attention to the man responsible.

""Village Cheif, Kang!!""

The two guards quickly put their hands together and greeted him.

"May the God Luminous bless you with happiness!!"

Prompting their little demon to follow suite.

"Uhh, may the God Louminous give you happiness." He said with his hands put together and head bowed.

"Hahaha, to think I'd live to see a high ranking monster lower their heads!!" The cheif laughed as he watched the spectacle. Although the demon had little to no aura about him and seemed outrageously weakened, he had no choice to think it was a monster of high rank.

After all, there wasn't a monster he'd ever heard of that resembled him, yet he had a humanoid body. Every knowledgeable person knows that strong monsters have the power to resemble human bodies.

"How could I be a monster, I just got here?"

'To ask a question like that so genuinely looking how you do…is something amiss here?'

"Little demon, what's-"

*GGRRROOWWWWLLLLL~*

"I haven't eaten in days, could you spare some food for this one?" He asked awkwardly scratching his head.

"Ah of course, we'll talk while you eat." Kindly opening his village to the little monster, Cheif Kang eased the mind of his villagers as he walked through the streets with the little monster kid.

He seemed to have gone through a lot just from his appearance, however unsightly it is. After walking through the village to the cheifs' lodging, they went into a private room and waited for the attendant to bring over the fruit he was asked to gather.

Finally, the two were able to talk.

"So, little demon, why have you come here?"

Getting straight to the point, Kang spoke frank and bluntly asked about the boy's intentions.

"Mm, I just followed the river." He explained as he swollowed down half and apple in one bite.

"Ah, you're quite the hungry one, but you shouldn't eat and speak."

"But you're the one who said we'd talk while I eat?"

'He's attached with a sharp tongue it seems.'

"However, you must at least confuct yourself with some decency. Swallow your food then talk. Now, you mean to tell me you followed the Nox River all this time and ended up here?"

"Mhm."

"And you had no food to speak of for days on end. Not only that, but looking as you do, did you get lost or something? You have the ears of an elf, however none have resembled you from my knowledge."

"Uh, I was lost when I first woke up but there was a huge storm so I had to go find somewhere to take shelter. I don't remember why I was out there though…"

Seeing the little monster trying to recall his own memories, Kang silently sighed a breath of relief. His village was safe….for now.

Still though, the child was too much of an oddity for him to let his guard down.

"Maybe it's his childish appearance that's growing on me…"

"Eh? I feel…weird?"

Creeped out is the word he was looking for.

"Just eat your fruits kid!!"

The cheif got up with a sigh and left the child in the room, telling the attendant to bring in a small basket of fruit every few minutes.

'The last storm that hit us was more than a week ago and it survived with no nutrients? What exactly is he though?'

….

After some time went by, the Cheif came back with a few new sets of clothes.

Kang's emrald eyes met the childs' rubies as he put his hand atop his blonde hair and sighed.

"Since it seems like you were aimlessly wondering then this must be fate."

"Fate?"

"It means that something is predestined and inevitable. You ending up here must've been such a thing that God Luminous has put into play. Either way, I'll accommodate you here in this village until fate drags you somewhere else."

'Yeah, weather it's fate or not I'm sure in the afterlife God Luminous would bless me for such goodwill towards a monster.'

"Ah, what's your name?"

As the little demon looked up at the cheif's tall, yet broad stature he thought about this "fate".

"I don't know…"

"Mmm, well how about something like Nixus? We can change it later if you don't like the sound of it?"

"Nixus? Maybe it's fate that you chose that name?" With childish laughter, the little demon, now named Nixus didn't feel so lonely.

"For now wash up and get changed. I'm sure you want to take a better look around the village before nightfalls."

"Of course!!" Quickly taking the clothes from Kang's hand the attendant showed Nixus to the washroom whoch he had also prepared after seeing the cheif come back with the clean clothes.

"Let's just hope his string is tied with blessings instead of curses."

Leaving the room, Kang took the clothes to an empty room with simple design and sat them on the bed, taking note of how clean it is despite not being occupied for so long.

"It seems attendant Zhou has been working hard today."

'Indeed I have cheif!!'

End of the first chapter, I'd say it was a nice start. What did you think? I plan for this to be quite the backstory before the main plot comes around so I'll try to make good pacing here.
