2 Voice of the World

Bright light slammed into my eyes.

Where the hell is this coming from?? I am supposed to be in my room, sleeping.

"HEY! Move outta the way old man" I heard a voice.

What the hell? Who is speaking Japanese in my bedroom? Did he just call me an old man, I'm barely an adult. Still confused, I slowly rubbed my eyes open.

'Uh-oh', where the hell am I!! This isn't my bedroom, why am I in the middle of a street? Tall skyscrapers all around, large screens filled with advertisements filled my vision. Cars and people bustling around unfamiliar surroundings.

'Wait- Isn't this Tokyo?!', I remember seeing this scenery online. How the hell did I end up in a whole different country? That would explain the Japanese though.

I slowly stumbled to the sidewalk and just sat down, my head still jumbled up.

"Deep breaths, deeep breaths", I told myself as I tried to get a grasp of the situation.

'Okay, here's what I know; I'm currently in Japan, it's around noon, and I'm in a body older than it is supposed to be.' Thankfully, I understand and can speak a little Japanese. Credit goes to my obsession with anime and light novels.

Suddenly, my phone started ringing. I took it out of my back pocket to see who it was. With a bit of difficulty, I managed to read the name 'Tamura'. A pretty common name in Japan. After debating whether I should answer it, I hesitantly picked up the call. I could do with any information I could get on my situation.

"Hello? Satoru-senpai, we'll reach the place in 2 mins, are you there yet?" What place? I'll just give a vague answer since I don't know what he is talking about.

"Uhh yeah, hello. I'll also reach in 2 mins", I said in broken but acceptable Japanese.

Wait a minute-- 'Satoru' and 'Tamura'?? I've heard those names before. Wait wait wait wait wait!! I'm in TENSURA?!!

The realization hit me like a truck, how the hell did this happen??

'Am I dreaming?' No, that's not possible, all of this is too realistic for it to be a dream.

'Ahhh, I see how it is, I'm in a fanfiction trope, aren't I? I've read too many of these to not know what is happening.' But this is weird, why have I reincarnated into Rimuru, or rather Satoru's body before his death? His life as a human ain't all that interesting.

This is awful, what's the point of this reincarnation then?! My old mundane life is being replaced by a new, still mundane life.

After getting a hold of myself, I got up from the sidewalk and began walking in the direction this body was previously going in before I took over. Hundreds of thoughts were flooding my mind.

'What happened to the original Satoru Mikami, did I kill him?'

'What should I do now?'

'Will I have to die if I want to reincarnate again like the original Satoru?'

'Will the <Voice of the World> even speak to me after my death? What if I just die and waste my life?'

In the original story, Satoru gets stabbed while trying to protect Tamura and his girlfriend from an armed lunatic. As his life drains out of him, the <Voice of the World> talks to him. He doesn't really understand what is happening, but his last thoughts are converted into wishes which determine his situation after he gets reincarnated into another world.

'Wait-- Does that mean that the <VOTW> was responsible for my reincarnation too? But I didn't die in my previous life, nor did I hear any voice. Anyways, that doesn't matter. What matters is my next course of action.'

'There's no point in overthinking. I've already decided what I want to do. It's a big risk, but I'm gonna try and reincarnate again. There's no way I'm living this boring, mundane lifestyle when I have a chance of living in a world of magic, dragons, and demons.'

"Ohh! Satoru-senpai! There you are", a voice called out to me. I looked towards the source and found Tamura standing with a young lady by his side. That must be his girlfriend that he wants to show off to me.

"Ah, hello Tamura. And you must be his girlfriend", I greeted them.

"Yes! This is my girlfriend, Miho Sawatari", Tamura proudly stated.

"He-Hello Senpai, I've heard many things about you from Tamura-kun."

"Good things I hope", I replied, barely concealing my bad Japanese.

Suddenly, I started hearing a commotion from behind me. People were screaming and running. 'What?! This isn't supposed to happen so early, there should still be more time.'

The crowd parted in fear as a crazed man ran towards Miho with a knife. 'This is the moment, I have to do it.' I prepared myself for what I was about to do.

As the man got closer, I leapt toward Miho and pushed her out of the way as the man slammed into me.

'AHHHH Shit!!... This hurts way more than expected. I thought I would be prepared for the pain. No matter, this isn't the time for unnecessary things. I have to focus and regulate my thoughts.'

"Oh my GOD! Senpai!!", screamed out Tamura as I fell down to the ground and the attacker picked himself up and ran away.

"Wait- Just hold on, I'll call on ambulance, Miho, get the phone!!", Tamura exclaimed in a desperate voice.

'Ahh, Tamura, you're too loud, Shut up..... I have to focus.'

'Let's see, here we go'

'I've always wanted to be a great sage with all the knowledge of the world'

<Confirmed. Extra skill 'Sage'…successfully acquired. Evolving Extra skill 'Sage' into unique skill 'Great Sage'… Successful.>

'YESSS!! The <VOTW>!! I'm really going to be reincarnated again, but before that, I have to exploit this chance as much as I possibly can.'

'I wish I could bring back the dead. Dead people are a waste of talent, I wish I could get all their skills and knowledge.'

'Nice. I never want to feel this cold or hot again. It is so uncomfortable. It hurts so bad'

'If I get reincarnated like the Buddhists say, I want to be a human, not some insect or animal.'

As I was blissfully wishing for everything I wanted, trying my best to ignore the pain, I was assaulted by an unthinkable amount of fatigue.

'I guess this is it huh? My time in this world is up. Now it's time for a great new adventure!! Wait, Shit!! Before that-- '

'I really want to do magic, I bet I would be amazing at that'

<Confirmed. Constructing a body with High Magic Affinity.... Successful>

'Finally, now I can peacefully move on. I wanted to wish for many more things, but alas, I'm running out of time.'

My vision went dark, as I fell into a deep sleep.
